James Dutschke and the Never Ending Ricin Saga

Well, it’s 2016 and what would a new year be with out more drama coming out of the 2013 James Everett Dutschke frame job of Paul Kevin Curtis?

Boring I tell you!

Let’s recap shall we…April of 2013 myself and Lady Liberty broke the story of the arrest of Mississippi Elvis impersonator Paul Kevin Curtis regarding ricin laced letters sent to President Obama, Senator Wicker of Mississippi, and other state officials.  Ultimately, Curtis was released, and it came to light that James Everett Dutschke, (also an Elvis impersonator) had staged an elaborate frame job on Mr. Curtis.  We also had Dutschke in our sights as well.  Over the last two and half years there has been trials, convictions, lawsuits and even further frame attempts by Mr. Dutschke.  If you are unfamiliar with this case, just click here to review the history.

Now on to the new developments in this very strange saga.

In 2014 James Everett  Dutschke plead guilty to the manufacturing and mailing of Ricin incurring a 300 month sentence to the super-max prison in Florence, Colorado.  According to Mississippi’s Djournal he is asking once again asking for his conviction be overturned, stating his innocence.  Previous attempts and appeals have been dismissed.

Dutschke, a former Tupelo martial arts instructor and political candidate, asks the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals to overturn dismissal of earlier conviction appeals in the Northern District of Mississippi. Most lately he appeals U.S. District Judge Sharion Aycock’s decision to deny him a public-paid attorney to make the appeals.

The article went on to say

In a five-page, hand-written document filed Monday, Dutschke insists his request was not “frivolous” because he is “without any legal counsel or guidance” to properly proceed in the courts.

Paul Kevin Curtis, the individual wrong accused for the initial crime, is filing his second lawsuit against the Federal Government and other entities.  He has filed suit against Mr. Dutschke as well.  As you can imagine his life has changed dramatically since 2013, and he is still seeking damages against the Federal Authorities specifically against FBI, US Attorney’s office, the DOJ and the Department of Homeland Security regarding violations of his civil rights.  The first lawsuit filed in 2015 was dismissed due to inability to serve defendants the filing.  The new lawsuit has the following information according to the DJournal

Curtis is suing the U.S. Government, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Homeland Security and former U.S. Prosecutor John Marshall Alexander, who was criminal chief for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Oxford when Curtis was accused of the crime. There may be other defendants as the case progresses, his attorneys say in a legal document filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court of Northern Mississippi.

So the new year begins and the drama continues.  We will update as more information comes out on this never-ending saga.

Grange “Honored” By Cobey Endorsement – #NC20

So, this happened:

Yeeeesh.  Laying it on a bit thick there, aren’t ya sister?

Holly Grange goes ALL IN on the Bill Cobey endorsement.  This is not going to play like she thinks it will with, you know,  actual conservatives.

One of the “founding members of the conservative movement in NC”?  Well, I suppose that depends on one’s definition of “conservative”.

Cobey has a very long history in politics, no one is saying otherwise. He’s a lovely man in person. Maybe it’s me, but he seemed ill-suited for the Board of Education Chair  position and possibly it was a total political reward-type appointment.

Atkinson & Cobery 1Those thoughts were solidified (for me anyway) when he testified in front of the Legislative Research Committee on Common Core.  It was very… awkward.

Cobey clearly was a champion of conservative principles,  but since moving onto the State Board of Education he seems to be more of a champion of June Atkinson’s principles. Don’t forget his involvement with McCrory’s legislature/commissions stunt.

I mean, when you have the uber-leftist outlet, IndyWeek, praising Cobey as “not one of the crazies“.  Come on, people. Ironically, that Indyweek article has this quote:

“Good schools channel the kids’ energy into a love of learning, Cobey said. Bad ones beat it out of them.”

While that statement is true on its face, what do you think Common Core does to kids love of learning, Mr. Cobey?  Hint: It’s not making them love it.

Common Core is a set of fundamentally flawed and corporate influenced standards, but in his role on the Common Core Commission, Cobey defended the standards over NC kids.

I guess that’s part of why I give Cobey such a hard time. Given his history, it’s like he’s totally lost his way and just nods his head with June on nearly everything.

But I digress.  ANYWAY….

Campaign finance filing is due today. Go hit the Board of elections website.

Grange’s campaign has already filed and shows $23,436.38 in receipts.

The largest single donation was $5,000 from Kenneth Curley who is President of Raymond and Associates. His dealings are ‘global‘.

Runner up was one ‘Robert Finan’ and probably his wife, ‘Nancy Finan’ with four separate donations just over $1k each.

Finan is listed as “retired US Government” and so is his wife.  If this is the same Robert Finan, which according to voter records it seems to be, then I wouldn’t want to mess with him. His wife, however, is not registered to vote as Nancy Finan, but Nancy Cowen.

Civitas launches Educations Savings Account Initiative – #NCed #ESA

The Civitas Institute has launched a new website to raise awareness about Education Savings Accounts or ESA’s.

Civitas has held a few Townhall’s already on ESA’s in the Triangle area. I myself attended one just last week in Apex. The next one is being held in Greensboro on February 4th. Parents wishing to attend can get more information on the Greensboro event here.

Here’s the press release from Civitas on the launch of ESA4NCKIDS.org:

New Website Shows Families How ESAs Can Help Them

ESA4NCKids.org has the facts about Education Savings Accounts
RALEIGH – To celebrate National School Choice Week and to ensure that parents have the right to choose the best educational option for their son or daughter, the Civitas Institute announces the creation of a new website, ESA4NCkids.org.

The site, dedicated to educating North Carolinians about the benefits of Education Savings Accounts (ESAs), conveys useful information about ESAs and how they work. The site also provides a video that demonstrates how ESAs can improve the lives of families who live here in North Carolina.

“Parents are looking for ways to gain greater control over where their children go to school and how they are educated,” said Dr. Robert Luebke, senior policy analyst at the Civitas Institute. “ESAs are the best and most practical tool for parents to ensure their children are getting a quality education. ESAs are an idea whose time has come.”

ESAs are funded by taking a percentage of the state per pupil support and transferring it to a parent-controlled account. Parents can spend the money on educational expenses like tuition, tutoring, books, testing services or other approved expenses.

To visit the website, click here.

Dr. Luebke will be available for interviews to discuss ESAs and related issues. To arrange an interview, email Demi Dowdy at demi.dowdy@nccivitas.org or call919.834.2099.

Founded in 2005, the Civitas Institute is a Raleigh, NC-based, 501(c)(3) nonprofit policy organization committed to creating a North Carolina whose citizens enjoy liberty and prosperity derived from limited government, personal responsibility and civic engagement. Civitas conducts the only regular live-caller polling of North Carolina voters.

Operations Director of Equality NC: “There are tons of trans students.”

The Wake County School Board worked over their hiring policies this past week.

What they tweaked was adding a ban on discriminating based on sexual orientation. The Wake Board didn’t add transgender and well, transgender defenders are freaking out.

ABC11 reported on the reaction, emphasis added:

LGBT activists argue it misses the mark, leaving transgender employees out of the equation entirely.

“People should be judged based on the work that they do, not qualities that aren’t relevant,” said Shawn Long, Dir. of Operations for Equality NC. “Trans folks are already a marginalized community within a marginalized community, and the trans employees should always represent, particularly in the schools, the student body. And there are tons of trans students.”

Oh really? Tons? How many exactly?  How are you defining “tons”? Are these long-time transgender students or newly ‘self-identified’?

Give us a total, Mr. Long.

Let’s see what “tons” look like?

Numbers on the LGBT community are fairly elusive, but the population in any given source is small. What’s even smaller are those ‘self-identifying’ as transgender.

I think one of the more widely circulated percentages is from the Williams Institute circa 2011. That one says that 3.5% of the U.S. population says they are gay, lesbian or bisexual and that of that 3.5%, only .3% “self-identify” as transgender.

Applying that to the current U.S. population of around 319 million, that 3.5% translates to 11,165,000.  Of that 11 million number, .3% would be 33,495. For simplicity, divided by the number of states equally that’s 669 ‘self-identifying’ as transgender per state.

The National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) reported in 2014 that 2.3% identified as gay, lesbian or bisexual. Of that 2.3%, only .7% “self-identified” as transgender.

So, applying the same math to that 319 million, we have 7,337,000 and the subset of ‘self identifying’ transgender as 51,359. Spread across the 50 states, that’s roughly 1,027 per state.

Feel free to check out all the different numbers.

Common Core Snow MathBut you know, Mr. Long says it’s “tons”.

Common Core math. The struggle is real.

So while Mr. Long complains the ‘transgender’ community has been marginalized, he’s literally making a mountain out of an anthill.

How do you marginalize a “community” that is ‘self-identified’ at any given point in time and that is barely existent?

Reminder: “Due to the political nature of our work, contributions to Equality NC are not tax-deductible.”

SHUT UP! They Explained At UNC BOG Meeting

Well, so much for civil discourse.

CHAPEL HILL — Protests turned violent during a Tuesday morning meeting of the UNC Board of Governors as students and faculty gathered once again to call for the removal of UNC president-elect Margaret Spellings, former secretary of education in the George W. Bush administration.

Four students were arrested after physically resisting police, and though at press time none has been identified publicly, all face charges for disrupting the meeting, according to Jeff McCracken, chief of the Campus Police at UNC-Chapel Hill.

The protests began in silence, but erupted into shouts and demands during the board’s discussion about program cuts at East Carolina University. Students swarmed the boardroom table, chanting and shouting before being removed forcibly by police.

Several students occupied the board members’ seats and used the microphones to shout and chant, “Stand up, fight back,” and “No justice, no peace.” One student took the gavel at the chairman’s seat and pounded it against the table in rhythm with the chants.

“See what you’re participating in?” One student yelled as officers escorted protestors from the room. “See what you’re allowing to happen to students? That’s some scary s–t. You’re letting a student be dragged out of here. What is wrong with you? You should all be scared. Look at what you’re doing to us!”

Law officers, who took several minutes to subdue the frenzy, say they acted well within the boundaries of the law as protestors showed unnecessary resistance. – Carolina Journal 1/26/16

SHUT UP!, the protesters explained.

The Daily Tarheel has the names of the protesters, one of which was also charged with assaulting an officer:

UNC Public Safety officers arrested and charged Irving Allen, Femi Mimi Brown Shittu, Jen Myers and Madeleine Scanlon with disrupting an official meeting and resisting arrest, according to a Facebook post by Bryan Perlmutter, director of Ignite NC, an activist organization focused on social justice issues in the state.

Oh gee — according to “Bryan Perlmutter”. SHOCKER.  Perlmutter is involved in way more far left outfits than Ignite NC such as Education Justice Alliance (EJA), NC Coalition for Education Justice (NCCEJ), Student Power, Youth Organizing Institute (YOI), NC Queer Youth Power Coalition, Moral Monday and Occupy.

Further down in Carolina Journal article, we find this tidbit about who is pulling the protest strings:

No faculty members participated in Tuesday’s disruption, but professors made their sentiments known in a quiet protest before the start of the meeting.

“This is about Margaret Spellings leading the system in the wrong direction,” said Zach Robinson, professor of mathematics at East Carolina University. “Spellings holds a record of attacks on diversity. She has openly attempted to suppress positive depiction of a same-sex household on public television. As secretary of education she neglected to apply for millions in funding for historically black colleges and universities. We think there is ample evidence that she is not somebody who is prepared to accept the challenges of leading a diverse faculty and student body to success.”

Robinson, who has helped the Faculty Forward Network — a New York City-based coalition of professors, students, and parents affiliated with the Service Employees International Union — conduct a survey of 1,400 UNC faculty members, says that many professors are deeply unhappy with the direction of the system, particularly with the lack of funding for new construction.

I had been digging into Faculty Forward just prior to this turn of events.

seiu-at-workThey are 100% SEIU run and backed and are the equivalent of  the union driven protests to raise the minimum wage like “Fight for 15”.  They are also arm-in-arm with the NAACP on these events.

Make no mistake, this is about creating unions in Higher Ed institutions.

Here are the ABC’s of Faculty Forward for those who wish to look into them.

Main missions:
Targeting of ‘For Profit’ colleges”
Targeting of Margaret Spellings as UNC System President
Targeting “underpaid” professors
