Apex Elects NC Justice Center Employee To Town Council
The Town of Apex has elected Moral Monday protester and NC Justice Center Employee Nicole Dozier to one of its town council positions. If you live in the area, you might have seen her purple campaign signs along the roadside. Purple being the color of a non-partisan middle ground between Republican Red and Democrat Blue. Ms. Dozier is a registered Democrat and is anything but ‘non-partisan’ as I pointed out in October: Continue reading

What I Saw At The Holly Ridge ‘Walk In’
On Monday evening I attended the Holly Springs ‘Walk In’ event. After the original invitation messaging went a bit sideways, things turned around with the Holly Ridge teachers putting up a website. Upon seeing Holly Ridge ‘own’ their own event, I wanted to hear what they had to say. I also wanted to show my support for teachers in general, so I went to listen and while there , took some video.
The event ran just over 26 minutes and the session you will see took place at Holly Springs High after the group walked from the Holly Grove campus. I would estimate between 50 to 60 people showed up throughout the event. There is a lot of honesty in the commentary. Running themes included the frustration at the amount of testing going on, the anxiety and stress said testing was putting on the kids, Common Core being implemented with little to no input from teachers or any training for it, data tracking and compensation issues. I’ll be looking more closely at the compensation piece in a separate future article.
The video I shot is can be viewed below in two parts. It is not edited or cut in any way other than being in two parts. The reason it is in two parts is due to YouTube length limits. The only additions made are titles and a few captions that include dialogue or clarification. The sound quality is not that great as I did not have a stand alone microphone, so I apologize for the viewers having to crank it up a bit.
Have a look for yourself: Continue reading

Southern Workers Assembly Pickets Courthouse
News and Observer reports that today, the Southern Workers Assembly is picketing the Raleigh courthouse in support of the Moral Monday arrestees on trial.
A labor organization is planning to hold protests Friday in half a dozen Southern cities to demand charges be dropped against the more than 900 people arrested in “Moral Monday” protests at the North Carolina legislature this year.
The Southern Workers Assembly plans to picket in front of the county courthouse in Raleigh at noon. The protest continues in Goldsboro and Charlotte that afternoon. Additional picketing is planned in Charleston and Columbia, South Carolina and in San Antonio, Texas the same day.
The organization – a network of local unions and organizing committees – is specifically rallying around Saladin Muhammad, a labor leader who is the first Moral Monday protester to be convicted. His attorney, Al McSurely of Chapel Hill, says the conviction will be appealed to superior court.

Southern Workers Assembly’s page goes into detail about Saladin Muhammad who is very invested in unions:
Muhammad, a founding member of Black Workers For Justice, led the organizing as an organizer of the national United Electrical Workers Union (UE) that formed the North Carolina Public Service Workers Union-UE Local 150, which has been a leader in the campaign to repeal the N.C. state ban on collective bargaining rights for public sector workers.
Mr. Mohammad is also invested in Socialism: Continue reading

NCAE Sends Unionization Propaganda Flyer Home With Kids
A line was crossed tonight in Holly Springs, NC by the North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE). A flyer for a planned Teacher “Walk In” was distributed to kids at Holly Ridge Elementary school in their ‘take-home folders’ today. This “Walk In” has been talked about in the media a bit but nothing hit as close to home as this did. This flyer had no business being ferried home by our children. Keep reading to see why.
