Retired NC History Teacher’s Epic Fail on #HB2

If you didn’t see the Charlotte Observer today, consider yourself lucky. You might have lost IQ points reading this one.

A “retired CMS history teacher” alleges that there were transgender civil war soldiers, therefore HB2 is an insult to “common sense”.

No, I’m not kidding.

A “HISTORY” teacher just labeled the women who disguised themselves as men in order to fight in the Civil War as being the same as transgender males who are currently fighting to pee in the Men’s bathroom.

080816 Alan Hoyle NC History Teacher - women who were Civil war soldiers - Charobs

Dear Mr. Hoyle, stop embarrassing my state with your incredible abuse of history to suit your political narrative.

Our ancestors would likely have shot a man trying to pee or shower next to a lady.  Actually, some of those ladies probably would have shot them themselves.

It’s a damn good thing you retired, sir, however, one must shudder to think what ideas you imposed on your students over the years. The damage is already done.

Charlotte Supt. Clark Halts Moving Forward With Transgender Facilities Policy

Despite House Bill 2, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school district (CMS) had every intent of moving forward with plans to implement a transgender facilities policy, however all of that has been put on hold.

CMS Superintendent Ann Clark made a statement on halting the policy, citing the recent Supreme Court ruling striking down a 4th Circuit’s order forcing a school district to create an open bathroom policy.

Via WCNC news:

“CMS remains committed to nurturing a safe and welcoming learning environment for every student. As a result of yesterday’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling, we have placed a temporary hold on the section of the CMS bullying prevention regulation which states that transgender students will be given access to the restroom and locker room facilities corresponding to their gender identity. The rest of the regulation, which is intended to promote consistency in anti-bullying support for all students, will remain intact.  CMS will respect the Supreme Court’s decision just as we did that of the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.”

Representative and Executive Director of Equality NC, Chris Sgro, wasted no time issuing a response statement:

Yesterday, an ethics complaint was filed against Sgro alleging his role as a legislator and that of an organization fundraising against and suing the state in a fight over House Bill 2 is a conflict of interest.

CMS Superintendent Ann Clark had unveiled the plan to allow transgender facilities access only after the current school year ended, leaving parents with no recourse and no voice. CMS is the second largest in the state, behind Wake county, with over 146,000 students.

According to WBTV’s report at the time, Senator Phil Berger blasted Clark, saying the move was an “Outrageous plan to break the law.”

In his statement included in the WBTV report, Governor McCrory also called out the plan as a violation of state law:

“Instead of providing reasonable accommodations for some students facing unique circumstances, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System made a radical change to their shower, locker room and restroom policy for all students. This curiously-timed announcement that changes the basic expectations of privacy for students comes just after school let out and defies transparency, especially for parents. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System should have waited for the courts to make a decision instead of purposely breaking state law.”

NC Values Coalition sent out an email this past week, addressing this proposed plan in an effort to raise awareness prior to the start of the rapidly approaching 2016-17 school year.

NC Values Coalition stated they had received a copy of the proposed plan and laid out some of the highlights:

1. Parental involvement dependent on student’s permission: “Involvement of parents in the plan is determined in working with the student, considering the student’s age and health, wellbeing and safety concerns” (pg. 34).

2. Students can choose their bathrooms and changing facilities: “Students must have access to the restroom/changing facilities that correspond to their gender identity” (pg. 42).

3. CMS will remove some gender-based activities: “CMS will evaluate all gender-based activities; maintain only those that have clear and sound pedagogical purpose” (pg. 46).

4. Students can choose their gender-based activities (intramural sports, dress codes, classes, ceremonies, photos, extracurricular activities, etc). This includes choosing which gender they participate with during overnight field trips: “Students are permitted to participate in gender-based activities consistent with their gender identity.” (pg. 46).

5. Students shall not be referred to as “boys and girls” in classrooms, but “scholars” or “students.” : “Avoid gender specific classroom management techniques” (pg. 46).

The email from NC Values coalition included a letter for parents to sign and suggested also printing the letter out to mail it to their local school.

The plan was accompanied by a “Gender Unicorn, from a website called ‘Trans Student Educational Resources‘ or TSER for short:

Purple Unicorn

TSER is a 501(c)3 organization that has only been tax exempt since 2014.  According to the TSER website, the organization has apparently aligned itself with Blacks Live Matter.

Ethics Complaint Filed Against NC State House Rep. Sgro

An ethics complaint has been filed against North Carolina state house Representative Chris Sgro.  The complaint was filed by Napier Fuller, a resident of Wilmington, North Carolina.

The complaint alleges that Sgro, “remains the executive director of Equality NC, and continues to be actively engaged in lobbying for Equity NC via his new role as a member of the NCGA.”.

The complaint also calls into question the relationship between the Human Rights Campaign and Equality NC.  Both organizations have been front and center in protests of House Bill 2, as well as actively seeking repeal of the law in court.

One section states that, “Sgro has been instrumental in promoting an economic boycott of our state in an effort to influence elected officials to repeal HB2, a violation of Section 120-86.”.

The complaint makes the case that Sgro resigned as a lobbyist for Equality NC just 2 days prior to being appointed to the district 58 General Assembly House seat. However, Sgro continued to act as Executive Director for the organization, including fundraising efforts directly related to the repeal of House Bill 2.

Read the Complaint:

On two separate occasions, this website has noted Sgro engaging in activities for Equality NC while also being a legislator.

This website captured an email in June sent by Equality NC which detailed an organized vigil against House Bill 2, entitled “Stand against hate”.  The email was signed, “Chris Sgro
Executive Director, Equality NC”.

This site also documented an instance on May 3rd where Equality NC sent an email fundraising while expressly mentioning House Bill 2. That email was also signed by Chris Sgro acting as Executive Director of the organization.

SCOTUS Blocks 4th Circuit Order on Transgender Bathroom Use

Yesterday, the Supreme Court blocked the 4th Circuit’s order that forced a Virginia School district to allow a transgender student to use the bathroom or locker room of their choice.

CNN’s report reveals the partisan divide on the court and of their own ‘expert’:

A divided Supreme Court agreed Wednesday to temporarily block a lower court order that had cleared the way for a transgender male high school student to use the boys’ bathroom in a Virginia public school this fall.

The ruling is a victory for the school board and a loss — for now — for Gavin Grimm, the student who won at the lower court level.

Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan would have left the lower court decision undisturbed. It took five justices to act, and Justice Stephen Breyer wrote separately to say that he concurred in the decision in part because granting the stay would “preserve the status quo” until the court has a chance to consider a petition for cert. “I vote to grant the application as a courtesy,” Breyer wrote.

“The order comes as something of a surprise given the current composition of the court,” said Steve Vladeck, CNN contributor and professor of law at the University of Texas School of Law.

CNN’s report was accompanied by a video, which compared the subjective situation in Virginia with  the objective ‘racist division’ of bathrooms by race in the past.

Even though the Supreme Court temporarily blocked the 4th circuit’s decision on the use of facilities, the case of Grimm v. Gloucester  School Board will still proceed in the courts.
