Rick Perry Fires Up NC Crowd, Cites Common Core

Governor Rick Perry hit the stage last week to stump for NC Speaker of the House Thom Tillis in the NC Senate race.  While here, he fired up the crowd and while doing so, mentioned Common Core:

“He will go to Washington, D.C., and do everything he can to dismantle Obamacare,” Perry said. “He will say no to things like Common Core. He will say no to things like Race to the Top.” –News and Observer, Texas Governor Rick Perry Stumps For Thom Tillis at  Smithfield GOP Rally

Read more about Perry’s stop in NC at Truth In American Education. Yep, he brought in Common Core and yep, Governor Rebrand was up on stage with him. I don’t normally link to PolicyWatch, it’s painful.  I find it even more painful to link to something Chris ‘Blueprint NC’ Fitzsimon wrote, but he makes a point at the end of this short piece. Try to ignore Fitzsimon’s childish and ill-informed slam of Lt. Governor Forest and that “wacky” Constitution he attempts to smear in the opening paragraph. Just skip to the end:

Wonder what McCrory was thinking when Perry was speaking and when they both held Tillis’ hands high for the crowd? Does McCrory want Tillis to go to Washington stop things like Common Core that McCrory himself supports? – PolicyWatch

2016 is not going to be a lay-up for Governor McCrory. I see a growing enthusiasm gap. Common Core is just one part of it. Who he has surrounded himself with is another part, albeit a big part.

McCrory CC RebrandOn a personal note, I’m speaking from the conservative mom angle here. You know those moms who canvas, phone call and bring in donations?  We’re not happy.

With two years to go, from what I am hearing from other moms, most of us are out already.  McCrory’s support of Common Core is a deal breaker. This support is highlighted by the Governor’s Commission pick being whole hog in favor of Common Core.

Governor McCrory has done much for business in this state. So don’t get me wrong here, I’m not totally unhappy with what he’s done thus far. Common Core as I said, is a deal breaker for many.

Rick Perry openly stands against Common Core. Look at the enthusiasm and support he is drawing.

That’s not a coincidence. That’s spine. That’s leadership.

Former NC Governor Perdue’s DigiLearn Propped Up By Gates Grant

After leaving the state of NC in financial chaos after just one term, former Governor Bev Perdue founded a cushy little non-profit with the help of Common Core founding father, former NC Governor Jim Hunt.

That non-profit is called DigiLearn.  It’s an incorporated entity.

DigiLearn is arguably a vehicle for Bill Gates to push his latest wave of Common Core through ‘personalized digital learning’ apps and other related support.  Keep reading, you’ll see where Gates is propping up this venture.

Making sure we have the right workers seems to be one of their thrusts per former Governor Perdue:

So of course, the focus on being a ‘well-educated worker’ has to follow a child all the way through college:

Follow The Money
It appears DigiLearn needed help getting organized and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation stepped in with a grant in July of 2013. The grant specifies it was “to develop a business and operation plan”. Gee, sounds like Gates is steering this ship?

Date: July 2013
Purpose: to develop a business and operation plan for the Digital Learning Institute (DigiLEARN)
Amount: $250,669
Term: 15
Topic: College-Ready
Regions Served: GLOBAL|NORTH AMERICA
Program: United States
Grantee Location: Raleigh, North Carolina
Grantee Website: http://www.digitallearninginstitute.org/

About DigiLearn
Their board has one of the Representatives responsible for pushing SB812 (replace Common Core) through the legislature; Craig Horn.  Also notable on the list of the board members is Maurice Green. Green is part of the NC Superintendents Large District power bloc formed earlier this year. One of this superintendent group’s first actions was to recommend a 7 year lock in of Common Core for North Carolina.

According to the ‘About‘ page, “DigiLEARN was founded and is chaired by former North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue, with former Wyoming Governor Jim Geringer serving as vice chair.”

We know that Perdue, along with NC Superintendent and CCSSO President-elect Atkinson, signed North Carolina up for the Common Core by listing it as a brand name in our state’s Race To the Top application months before the standards were actually released, but what do we know about Geringer?

Some key things I found on Geringer:

  • Geringer is an ardent Common Core proponent.
  • Geringer is also a fan of big data (see II-F Deeper Into Data and Geographic Scope: National, State, and Local Insights-Part 1).
  • Read about Geringer and the “Education Commission of The States“.

Perdue has been taking a “respite” as the Charlotte Observer’s You Schools Blog calls it. That respite involves becoming buddies with Arne Duncan and pushing Common Core via ‘new technologies’, which will of course benefit DigiLearn:

And just last week, Perdue joined the advisory network of Education Post, a new nonprofit run by Peter Cunningham, who served in the Department of Education in the Obama administration. Informed by the politicization of Common Core standards, that group wants to tone down the discourse around education.

Perdue’s first blog post for that site calls for a national bipartisan dialogue among business and political leaders on how classrooms need to change to adapt to new technologies and the modern economy. – Your Schools Blog, Charlotte Observer

Oh look — “Politicization of Common Core Standards”!
Gee, yet ANOTHER education non-profit.

About Education Post

“We are a non-profit, non-partisan communications organization dedicated to building support for student-focused improvements in public education from preschool to high school graduation.”

Yeah, right.
That could be the tagline from any one of thousands of non-profits out there right now.

Also, the stupid is strong:

Check out ‘Education Post’s’ board, note the money there and in their Fiduciary board.

That Fiduciary board includes a former Apple exec, Eli Broad exec, an Ed director from the Walton family foundation and daughter of former Mayor Bloomberg,  Emma Bloomberg. Take the time to read their Bios.

Fun fact: A WHOIS search on educationpost.org shows the registration has been anonymized and blocked from public inquiry bu WHOISGuard.

News and Observer Jumps Media Bias Shark With Wake Endorsements

Not a lot of background, facts or qualifications for the candidates the News and Observer has endorsed for the Wake County Commissioner race. Perhaps that’s because their resumes are on the light side of experience and heavy on the political activism side – specifically far Left, big government, big spending Moral Monday activism.

The county commissioners hold the purse strings for the Wake. Imagine your taxes if a Moral Monday crew gained control? They’d have you paying your ‘fair share’, right?

I left a comment and continue to comment on things like this because our media cannot or will not do its job. See below.

This article is light on background because not a single one of these people has the management or budget background it takes to run one of the largest counties in our state.Three of the four above support Moral Monday and their multi-billion dollar, more big government agenda.

Ms. Holmes has even spoken at a Moral Monday event and has not been forthcoming about who she works for.

ALL IS WELL, right News and Observer?

NC NAACP Email About “Prophet” Barber Dances On Non-profit Legal Line

This email from Al McSurely is very close to electioneering for a particular candidate, which a non-profit like the NC NAACP is barred from doing.  As an attorney, McSurely should know this.
Scroll down to the bottom. I’ve got a bit of commentary to add.

Dear Members of the Forward Together Moral Movement that sprung from our ten-year struggle in North Carolina and spread to more than 15 states …and growing strong,

Don’t bother to open up this brilliant rendition of Rev. Dr. William Barber’s message unless you have 15 minutes to soak it in. Sister Denise Oliver-Velez, who helped lead the Young Lords back in the day, thoughtfully quoted Frederick Douglass’ juxtaposition of slave-holder Christianity vs. the Christianity of Jesus. Read Douglass’ plain statements of fact first. You will find the same truth and rhythms in Rev. Barber’s message to the NAACP Convention in 2012. Mitt Romney had just stunk up the stage with a poorly executed ploy to provoke booing from the NAACP for a cheap shot TV ad. No one booed, but we were ready, after Romney was ushered out the back, for Rev. Barber to lift us with “If you ever needed to vote, you need to vote now.”

So if you have 5 minutes, get your family together and read Douglass at the bottom, and perhaps the squibs from Harris-Perry, Gresham, Lucy, and the other people who have thrown their considerable power behind the North Carolina prophet. After setting the tone in the room, go to the “You Need To Vote Now” link. Then call your friends. Vote together as a non-violent direct action against the last-gasps of the racist right. Put on your “I voted” sticker. Then join the Moral Forward Together Coalition in your state. If you can’t find it, start it.

With love and justice,

Al McSurely

Also, if you dare to hit the link in the email, it takes you to the far, far, far, far, far Left Daily KoS.

At the KoS is the revelation that “Prophet” Barber is coming out with a book.

Perhaps McSurely misspoke and he meant “Profit” Barber.

Politicking In Buncombe County Schools

Those following this blog know I’ve written about multiple instances of politicking in North Carolina involving our schools. The latest instance comes from Buncombe county. USA Today is running a story about the misuse of school email for political purposes there.

Excerpt:

A Buncombe County school employee who reportedly forwarded an email to fellow employees asking them to vote for school board candidate Cindy McMahon “exceeded the reasonable use of email” by a school employee, according to a school system spokesman.

School board member Lisa Baldwin, who is running against McMahon, sent the email to the Citizen-Times on Friday.

The email appears to have originated from former school system employee Carmen Murray, using a Gmail account. Murray sent the email to two employees at Sand Hill-Venable Elementary School. In the email, she encouraged employees to vote for McMahon. “We simply must remove Lisa Baldwin from our school board immediately,” the email read.

USA Today doesn’t publish said email, but I will.

This email, since sent to a public school account, is subject to Freedom of Information Act laws.
Ms. Murray’s email implies this is not her first contact with Buncombe teachers bearing this same message. Ms. Murray’s position as a school principal clearly makes this course of action inappropriate at best and abuse of her position for electioneering purposes at worst.

To: Beverly.Combs@bcsemail.org, Betsy Oakes <betsy.oakes@bcsemail.org>

Hi friends! As principal, I would have never endorsed a specific candidate to vote for (and certainly not in writing!), but as your friend, you can better believe I’m going to be vocal about how important the upcoming school board election is. I’m sure you remember me telling you that as a group of educators, we can single handedly elect who we want in office, or in this case, who we don’t want on our Board. So with that said, PLEASE GO VOTE for CINDY MCMAHON.

We simply must remove Lisa Baldwin from our school board immediately! It doesn’t matter about what district you are in. Candidate are elected system wide on a non partisan basis.

My other endorsements are Pat Bryant and Max Queen.

Now, please also tell all the rest of your friends and relatives that we need their help as well. Don’t assume that someone else will do it for you! Use your voice!!
Okay, off my soap box.

Hope you are doing well and having a great year! I miss you guys very much and think about you often. I’m having a great time and enjoying spending precious time with my family. Take care! Love ya,
Carmen

Bev or Betsy,
Please forward this to the SHV staff. Since my bcs account is no longer active, I don’t have my staff group, and due to the political content of this message, it shouldn’t come from the administration there, but it’s fine to forward it on my behalf if you don’t mind. Thx!  🙂
CM

WNCN Fails To Mention “Who More With Four” Side With

The headline itself is slanted as Hell:

Republican Wake Co. commissioners fighting to keep power

This article over at WNCN fails to mention who the Democrat “More With Four” county commission candidates side with. It’s not the public, it’s Moral Monday and their huge laundry list spending and more dependency on big government.

The WNCN article calls Jessica Holmes an “education attorney”.
She’s an NCAE attorney.
That’s a fairly large piece of information to leave out given the way the NCAE has politicked in our schools over the last year and backed Moral Monday’s every play.   Excerpt:

Jessica Holmes is the Democrat running against incumbent Gianni in District 3, which covers a part of southwest Wake County

Holmes is an education law attorney while Gianni is a chief financial officer.

Gianni was appointed to the board in April, replacing Tony Gurley who left to take a job with the state.

Holmes said commissioners and the state should spend more on education, making it more of a priority.

“For me, education is not a soundbite,” Holmes said. “Now you have kids, some kids, having textbooks that are older than they are and some of them can’t even take those textbooks home at night.”

Gianni is concerned about the economics of the democrats’ plan.

“The only way to do what they want to do is to do one of two things, either reduce the funds provided to the sheriff’s office or toward human services or to raise taxes,” Gianni said.

Holmes’s claims about textbooks are hilarious given the textbook commission has been under Democrat control for decades. Also, the move to digital materials has and will continue to have an impact. What she just uttered is a true soundbite with no substance.

Ms. Holmes has hidden her ardent Moral Monday support and the media has either ignored it or is too lazy to do their job.

Vetting is apparently only for Republican candidates? It would seem so.

Gianni is right to be concerned. The Moral Monday agenda would cost taxpayer upwards of $7 to $10 billion. Their idea of managing money is to take ‘your fair share’ as they see fit, increasing the size and scope of government, increased debt to the fed and expanding every program they get their hands on.

I left a comment on the article:

Not one mention that three of the four Democrat candidates all support Moral Monday.
Not one mention that Jessica Holmes is an NCAE attorney who has voted in Wake County  3 times and has spoken at Moral Monday events. She supports Common Core as well.

Do your Job, WNCN.
