Duncan to Ellmers: Hypocritical Much? – #NC02

Shots fired in NC-02.

HypocritesYou’d think Ellmers wouldn’t have to suck up taxpayer money for her mailers with all the cash Boehner’s pals were pumping into her coffers, but you’d be wrong.

Jim Duncan’s campaign released a statement this morning on Rep. Ellmer’s campaign spending.

Specifically, it’s a ‘hypocrite heal thyself’ moment as Ellmers seems to be doing the exact same thing she slapped Bob Etheridge around for in 2010.

Duncan Objects to Taxpayer Funds Being Used for Ellmers Reelection Bid
For Immediate Release – November 10, 2015

Cary, NC- Conservative candidate for Congress, Jim Duncan of North Carolina, has published an open letter to Congresswoman Renee Ellmers calling on her to stop using taxpayer money for her reelection bid.

Duncan’s letter echoes almost every word from a similar letter that Renee Ellmers sent to her Democratic opponent in 2010, criticizing the Rep. Bob Etheridge for using taxpayer-funded frank mail to enhance his political campaign.

“It was wrong then and it’s wrong now,” said Duncan.

Duncan’s letter is posted online here

A plain text copy is provided below:

The Honorable Renee Ellmers
1210 Longworth House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515

Monday, November 9, 2015

Dear Congresswoman Ellmers,

At least four times this year, you mailed (and emailed) letters and newsletters from your Congressional office to voters across the district. In every way these mailings resembled typical campaign ads, except they were paid for by taxpayers and not by your campaign.

In the text of one pamphlet you mailed you told voters you are “defending families and children” in Washington.  How much did this mailing (and your emailings) cost taxpayers? How many people received the mailings and emails? How can you explain writing taxpayers that you are “defending families and children” when you are wasting thousands of dollars of their money on political mailings to help you get reelected? You are borrowing money that these children will have to repay long after you leave office.
Congresswoman, you have $400,000 dollars in your campaign account, much of it donated by lobbyists and special interests. Why didn’t you have your campaign pay for your political ads – instead of sticking the taxpayers with the bill?

Sincerely,

Jim Duncan

Conservative Candidate for Congress

#StuffAtkinsonSays: How Do We Determine What Academic Standards To Use?

StuffAtkinsonSays2013: NC Superintendent June Atkinson tells the NC Legislative research committee that standards are determined by ‘important groups’ like higher education officials and businesses.

Parents are not mentioned.

That was probably by design, given how Atkinson has treated  parents and the general public who have concerns about Common Core.

#DM7 Article: Capitalist Bill Gates: Socialism Will Save Us!

This is a repost of my weekly Da Tech Guy Column:

Capitalist Bill Gates: Socialism Will Save Us!

By A.P. Dillon

Recently Billionaire Bill Gates made some comments on Climate change and ‘saving the planet’.  The comments were, shall we say, the kind of dumb we’ve come to expect from someone who thinks that because they are rich and famous, that their mess doesn’t stink.

We see this type of ‘my mess doesn’t stink’ syndrome play out quite often with the rich and powerful. No where does the syndrome present itself on a constant and nauseating basis like it does in Hollywood.

That syndrome is thinking that by virtue of having a lot of money, every thing they do, think and say is golden. With panderers, agents and fans around them, the Hollywood star types think they must be a higher power. Their opinion is the opinion.

Inevitably, when one reaches a point where their money and power are so overwhelming, that person begins to believe everything they do, say and think is absolute, irrefutable truth. They know all. They see all. Their thoughts and beliefs are law.

Bill Gates is in that place and has been for quite some time now.  Having said that,  it would be naive to think that the people who whisper in Gates’ ear and plant ideas that he adopts as his own are not just as dangerous as he is.

Getting back to The Atlantic comments,  clearly, Mr. Gates was not employing the  ‘critical thinking’ he promotes so ardently in the experimental Common Core Standards.  To be specific, Mr. Gates told The Atlantic that representative democracy is standing in the way.

“When I sat down to hear his case a few weeks ago, he didn’t evince much patience for the argument that American politicians couldn’t agree even on whether climate change is real, much less on how to combat it. “If you’re not bringing math skills to the problem,” he said with a sort of amused asperity, “then representative democracy is a problem.”

What Mr. Gates arguably goes on to lay out  is a case that socialism will save us from climate change.

This from the man whose education reforms over the years have largely failed; the most recent example being Common Core known for it’s ridiculously convoluted math strategies.

Gates went on to complain about government and at the same time seemed to be stamping his foot that they weren’t doing it fast enough and doing it his way.

Gates has built a massive empire – he is a very successful capitalist. I am not saying the man is dumb, far from it.  But I am saying something similar to what Hot Air has concluded about Gates’ climate change remarks. Hot Air has two key lines that really rebut Gates’ flawed logic:

“Gates in a smart guy, however he’s horribly wrong and misguided on this.”

The government is the one setting up the regulatory framework, not the free market.”

I don’t think the question should be, ‘will Bill Gates save the world or not?‘.

I think the question is, who is going to save the world from Bill Gates?

After a closed-door meeting Friday, the UNC Board of Governors made some university chancellors a lot richer.

Twelve of the system’s 17 campus leaders received raises that averaged 14 percent each, according to information made public Monday by the UNC system. Raises for three of those chancellors came to slightly more than 19 percent.

The dollar amounts of the raises ranged from $17,480 to $70,000 for N.C. State’s Randy Woodson, now the system’s highest-paid chancellor at $590,000 per year.

#WCPSS Lets Kid Who Threatened Another Kid With A Gun Back To SAME School

Did any Apex parents hear about this incident last year? I’m thinking no, since I can’t find coverage of the original incident anywhere in our local media.

In Oct. 2014, a boy brought a firearm to Apex Middle School and allegedly threatened students. One year later, he is enrolled at a local high school with the victims.

Michelle Hale said the boy pointed an unloaded gun at her then-12-year-old son.

“He pointed the gun at my son’s stomach and pulled the trigger,” she said. “He said to everybody, ‘Don’t tell. If you do, I have the bullets in my backpack and you’ll be next.'”

Hale said the boy stuck the gun in the back of a student taking a test and threatened to shoot. – WRAL 11/5/15

Did any Apex parents hear about the kid returning to school this year, much less to the same school?

WCPSS policy says that this type of act gets a 365 day suspension, which apparently is now up.  Zero Tolerance. Good times.

Parent and blogger, Allison Backhouse showed me this story this morning. Backhouse has taken to her own blog to express her outrage. I suggest reading it.  Her post includes a letter to the Wake County School Board:

Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Kushner & Supt. Merrill,

It is absolutely reprehensible to read about this situation that occurred in my community – and my schools – from WRAL.

Considering the climate we live in today and the incidents that have occurred in schools across the country, it is completely unacceptable for this information to be withheld from parents. To add insult to injury, your so-called policies have allowed this student back into the public school system to attend the very same school as those he threatened. There is no indication that any other actions by the Board or the superintendent have or will be taken regarding the safety and protection of our children from this student. For God’s sake, he brought a gun, PULLED THE TRIGGER, and then threatened to bring bullets the next time. When is the next time? Are you waiting to react after the fact?

I demand answers as to why we, as parents and as members of the Apex community, were not notified of this when it occurred last year. I demand to know why this dangerous student is allowed back into our schools after, as School Board member Keith Sutton says, “they have served their time” with a one year suspension. I truly empathize for the parents of these victims who have been ignored and lied to by this School Board. I am outraged and ashamed at each and every one of you.

Allison Backhouse

Key Snippet:

The Wake County Public School System’s student conduce policy indicates that a student caught with a firearm on campus will be suspended for 365 days. Depending on the seriousness of the infraction, the student can be expelled.

Court documents show that Fisher has been banned from the Knightdale High School campus. It was unknown if he would be allowed to return to school after 365 days.

Also, a pack of girls caught on video fighting on a Charlotte-Mecklenburg school district bus will have nothing happen to them:

“NBC Charlotte asked CMS if the students involved had been punished and if an incident report had been filed from Friday’s fight. There is no incident report of the fight, as if it never happened. A source said the driver resolved the issue by speaking to the two girls who went a few rounds, then finished the rest of the route.”

PVC Six Update: Protester Votes In Durham Despite Miami, FL Mailing Address – #ncpol

illegals protest hb318Last week, a group of pro-amnesty protesters peppered with some self-proclaimed illegal immigrants chained themselves together in front of  the Governor’s mansion.

They were protesting HB 318, which blocks North Carolina cities from adopting sanctuary city status.  The Governor signed into law.

They used what looked to be PVC pipe to cover the chains, making it harder for law enforcement to remove them.

One of the protesters arrested was Ivana Gonzalez.

Civitas has pointed out that not only does Ms. Gonzales work directly for far left Blueprint NC, but she apparently gave a Miami addressed to her arresting officer.  What makes that address a big deal is that Ms. Gonzalez voted in an election in Durham this past weekend.

Of the six protesters arrested, four had connections to Blueprint NC. Blueprint NC is the 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that is famous for the Blueprint strategy memo that described the game plan “progressive” groups should use to attack North Carolina’s Republican leaders. The orders to their members were to “eviscerate the leadership” (Gov. McCrory and legislative leaders) and weaken their ability to govern.

One of the protesters, Ivanna Cristina Gonzalez, works directly for Blueprint NC as its Project Coordinator. Upon being arrested, she gave a Miami, Florida address to the Wake County Magistrate and it appears on the magistrate’s order. The same Miami address appears on the Appearance Bond for Pretrial Release form. The catch – Ms. Gonzalez voted on Saturday in a Durham County early voting site using a Durham County address. North Carolina’s election law requires that a voter must reside in North Carolina in order to vote in North Carolina. – Civitas

Oh my. That is a no-no.   The voter look up record shows she used an absentee ballot. Good, a paper trail — should be easy enough to challenge.

Will the NC Board of Elections be investigating? Surely there is cause to take a look at Ms. Gonzalez’s voting status in our state?

How about Roy Cooper?  Someone should ask Attorney General Candidate Josh Stein about what he would do.  Remember, Stein’s sister sits on the Blueprint NC board.

Update: Ivanna’s LinkedIn profile
