Duncan to Ellmers: Hypocritical Much? – #NC02

Shots fired in NC-02.

HypocritesYou’d think Ellmers wouldn’t have to suck up taxpayer money for her mailers with all the cash Boehner’s pals were pumping into her coffers, but you’d be wrong.

Jim Duncan’s campaign released a statement this morning on Rep. Ellmer’s campaign spending.

Specifically, it’s a ‘hypocrite heal thyself’ moment as Ellmers seems to be doing the exact same thing she slapped Bob Etheridge around for in 2010.

Duncan Objects to Taxpayer Funds Being Used for Ellmers Reelection Bid
For Immediate Release – November 10, 2015

Cary, NC- Conservative candidate for Congress, Jim Duncan of North Carolina, has published an open letter to Congresswoman Renee Ellmers calling on her to stop using taxpayer money for her reelection bid.

Duncan’s letter echoes almost every word from a similar letter that Renee Ellmers sent to her Democratic opponent in 2010, criticizing the Rep. Bob Etheridge for using taxpayer-funded frank mail to enhance his political campaign.

“It was wrong then and it’s wrong now,” said Duncan.

Duncan’s letter is posted online here

Dear Congresswoman Ellmers,

At least four times this year, you mailed (and emailed) letters and newsletters from your Congressional office to voters across the district. In every way these mailings resembled typical campaign ads, except they were paid for by taxpayers and not by your campaign.

In the text of one pamphlet you mailed you told voters you are “defending families and children” in Washington.  How much did this mailing (and your emailings) cost taxpayers? How many people received the mailings and emails? How can you explain writing taxpayers that you are “defending families and children” when you are wasting thousands of dollars of their money on political mailings to help you get reelected? You are borrowing money that these children will have to repay long after you leave office.
Congresswoman, you have $400,000 dollars in your campaign account, much of it donated by lobbyists and special interests. Why didn’t you have your campaign pay for your political ads – instead of sticking the taxpayers with the bill?

Sincerely,

Jim Duncan

Conservative Candidate for Congress
