McIntyre (D- NC 07) To Retire

The news came last night, Mike McIntyre won’t be running again.

Earthquake in #NCPol MT @politico #Breaking: Democratic Reps. Mike McIntyre (N.C.) … retiring, according to multiple Democratic sources.

— Clark Riemer (@clarkriemer) January 8, 2014

Might be just as well, because he barely beat Rouzer before the Obamacare trainwreck hit back in 2012. That race was pretty expensive (5th in the nation) and was so close Rouzer asked for a recount. McIntyre emerged and won by 654 votes. It’s doubtful McIntyre wants to repeat that and be on the losing end – especially since according to OpenSecrets.org, it seems like the money faucet has turned off for him in the last year. UPDATED – About That N&O Gambling Money Story…

North Carolina has been treated to yet another edition of ‘Name no Democrats’ by N&O’s Biesecker. Only mentioning the top GOP players in a story is becoming a regular event, especially if they are running for the Senate. It really fits the ‘slam, eviscerate and cripple’ pattern we’ve come to know all too well. In fact, it would appear that Biesecker’s story is pretty damn close to the big bullet points of this Democracy NC memo, which is a group tied to BluePrint NC.

I suppose anything that draws attention away from the pummeling Hagan is taking over her 24 Obamacare lies is a good thing in the mind of Democrats — even a story that broke around 6 months ago or so and is now being recycled and includes some of their own ‘best and brightest’.

I’ve included the whole list of names further down, because, you know, Biesecker didn’t include that in his report. Maybe because he didn’t want you to see the ratio. 36 were Republicans and 24 were Democrats, yet Biesecker only wrote about the Republicans. Continue reading

#DM7 Article: A Primer on the Left in NC (Part I)

My latest is up at DaTechGuy: A Primer on the Left in NC

Those of you who follow my personal blog might be acquainted with my mapping of the Left in North Carolina already. For those of you just getting to know me and my writing, you’re in for some fun and a little bit of catch-up. Back in May, I wrote about how the Democrats were melting down in North Carolina. DPI’s Atkinson Unleashes Fear Mongering Rhetoric On Vouchers

I’m technically in a blog break, but some things are just too incredible not to write about.
Case in point, NC Superintendent June Atkinson’s recent remarks about vouchers. The partisan rhetoric and over the top, fear mongering language are just stunning. Emphasis below is mine.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – North Carolina Superintendent of Public Instruction June Atkinson offered a pointed critique of the state’s new voucher law during a stop in Wilmington Thursday.
“With the voucher legislation that we have we could be in dangerous territory as far as taxpayers’ dollars going to private schools,” she said prior to speaking to the N.C. School Boards Association’s Public Policy Conference. “There is nothing in the legislation that would prevent someone from establishing a school of terror.” Continue reading

SHOCKER: Volunteer Arrestee Found Guilty

Moral Monday Leader Reverend Barber was found guilty of trespassing and violating building rules. The judge threw out some of the cases, it’s unclear if she was acting as defense council or judge.

WRAL:

Raleigh, N.C. — A Wake County judge on Wednesday found a group of people arrested in April during the first of what became months of weekly protests at the Legislative Building guilty of trespassing and violating building rules.

District Judge Joy Hamilton said that, although she finds some of the rules governing public access to the Legislative Building to be “vague, overbroad and confusing,” state NAACP President Rev. William Barber and 11 others acted in concert to disrupt lawmakers.

Earlier Wednesday, Hamilton said there was insufficient evidence that the 12 protesters posed a threat, so she tossed out the charge of failure to disperse against all of them.

Let’s repeat that: The rules were “vague”. Continue reading

Dog Fight At Dog Park Brings In Dog Expert Councilwoman

There was an alleged dog attack in a popular Raleigh Dog park over the weekend. Apparently, two pit bulls went after a Corgi, nearly ripping it’s scalp off.

WRAL:

Raleigh, N.C. — Wake County animal control officers and Raleigh police are investigating the attack of a family pet at a city-owned dog park over the weekend.

Joan Troy says her 13-year-old Welsh Corgi, Lokey, had part of his scalp torn off Saturday when at least two young pit bulls attacked him while at Oakwood Dog Park near downtown Raleigh.

Lokey is recovering at the North Carolina College of Veterinary Medicine.

A Raleigh police spokesman said in a statement Sunday that no charges have been filed and that “no other action has been taken at this point in the investigation.”

City Councilwoman Mary-Ann Baldwin, who heads the council’s Law and Public Safety Committee, said Monday that she’s waiting for a report from animal control and the city’s Parks and Recreation Department before making any determination on whether to look at changing the city’s policies regarding dog parks.

Oh. Mary-Ann is on the case. I’m sure Baldwin will get right on looking at those policies. After all, dog incidents are her area, right? I seem to recall an incident involving her own dog, which she allowed to to pee on the NC General Assembly building as a means of ‘sending a humorous message’. Continue reading
