Occupy Monday Sues Over #NCGA Rules They Helped Create

The NC NAACP has really out beclowned themselves this time. The amount of lawfare the NAACP in NC generates could likely keep a medium sized firm happy with them as their only client. But I digress.

The NC NAACP are suing over the new NC General Assembly building rules — rules they in part helped create. I’ll explain that last part a bit more, but first, here’s the run down from WNCN.

Education Simplification Amendment Is Overdue

The NC State Superintendent has had a lot of freedom to put North Carolina on the hook for big future spending and in obligating our state to activities that one can arguably say would fall in the category of a power overreach.

Just take the one example of Common Core. Dr. Atkinson, along with Governor Perdue, committed North Carolina to the Common Core before the standards were even published via North Carolina’s Race To The Top Application. That very act alone deserves scrutiny and an investigation, but to date, nothing has been done. Bluntly put, these two pretty much just got away with it. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Or it goes to India.

In the same vein, the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) has grown every year, nearly unchecked. Educrat bloat, bureaucracy and layer upon layer of ‘new positions’ that rationalize other ‘new positions’ has been the result. That growth has a long list of high salaries attached to it as well.

I pulled down the salary information for DPI last Fall and found that 45 people there made more than a base salary of $100,000. ….

GUEST POST: Are #NCGA Legislators Listening To Parents?

Over the last month, me and the army of moms in North Carolina fed up and concerned with Common Core have been deluging the legislature with letters and calls. One of these fighters has been collecting responses. So far, out of 150 letters sent, she’s seen a small return. Having said that, some of the responses should be noted by parents as to who in the NC General Assembly wants to keep the straps of the Common Core in place over our children’s education and over our state’s sovereignty. While the House shows clear support for getting rid of Common Core in the responses below, the Senate does not.

Below is what was sent to me. I have only altered the text in order to better format it for presentation in this article. If parents out there want a bigger microphone to express their displeasure with Common Core or have received responses back they wish to share, I will happily offer this blog as a place they can do so. Occupy Monday Agenda Would Cost $7 Billion To Fund

The Occupy Monday movement led by Defacto leader of the NC Democrats have been making a lot of demands. Bigger government intrusion, more spending, and desires for items without a thought to the budget North Carolina has to work with.

Barber describes these demands as his “Five Point Moral Framework”. Don’t be drinking anything when you read the list below.

Secure pro-labor, anti-poverty policies that ensure economic sustainability
Provide well-funded public education for all
Promote healthcare for all, including affordable access, the expansion of Medicaid, women’s health and environmental justice in every community
Address the inequalities in the criminal justice system and ensure equality under the law for every person regardless of race, class, creed, documentation or sexual preference
Protect and expand voting rights, immigrant rights, women’s rights, LGBT rights and equal protection under the law
In a nutshell, the same demands made by Occupy Wall Street. Broad and vague with absolutely no specifics. That is a feature, not a bug in the design.

Rev. Barber’s demands would effectively erase all strides made to close the budget shortfall left behind by former Goveror Perdue. The demands add up to roughly $7 billion according to Senator Phil Berger’s office. See the statement to the press below: Continue reading →

Occupy Monday 6/9/14 Edition: Kids as Props

It’s Monday. Time to Occupy again.

This week it’s about Education. Specifically it looks like they are targeting school choice. Ironically, the same vouchers Occupy Monday are complaining about are specifically for low income students — the very people they claim to be protesting for.

North Carolina and The Shared Learning Collaborative

In my article earlier today, I linked to an article by Mercedes Schneider which had a familiar talking point in it. A talking point we’ve heard come out of the mouths of NC Chamber members and legislators who are their allies in forcing Common Core down the throats of NC parents and kids.
At the end of my earlier article, I mentioned that I didn’t even touch on the second half of Schneider’s article which dealt with the Shared Learning Collaborative (SLC) and the sharing of unprecedented student information. This article is the follow-up.

Schneider talks about their state superintendent and his pressuring of Governor Jindal to keep the Core and the PARCC assessments. This combination would result in an unprecedented amount of data collection on students as well as subsequent sharing. Here is the relevant section:
