Another Day, Another Teacher Pay Article
I doubt there is anyone in North Carolina who doesn’t know that teachers are dissatisfied with their pay, yet local media continues to write about it almost daily with a long string of regurgitated statistics, none of which are ever explained, linked to or given context.
Anyway, News and Observer has just such a piece up today, entitled, Teachers’ jobs are getting harder. Miraculously, the lengthy article fails to mention Common Core a single time as contributing to the increase in teacher workload. Amazing. Continue reading
#DM7: Re: Oh THOSE Abuse Cases….
My latest went up at Da Tech Guy: Re: About Those Abuse Cases
———————-
On Monday, DaTechGuy wrote about the sexual abuse cases taking place in schools as highlighted by Stacy McCain:
Lately Stacy McCain has been doing a large series on sexual criminals. Yesterday he focused on Teachers
If you pay attention to the news, it’s hard to avoid the conclusion that America’s public schools are staffed by sex-crazed perverts
It’s not his first dive into these waters but this time Glenn Reynolds linked with the line:
Obviously, we need to end mandatory celibacy and let high school teachers marry.
Now this is a story we’ve been covering for a while, but as we’ve also had a real bump in readership in 2013 & 2014 so for new readers at DaTechGuy Blog let me acquaint you with some stories we covered and & posts we did that you might have missed on this subject over the years:
The Guardian April 29th 2010 Continue reading

UPDATED – About That N&O Gambling Money Story…
North Carolina has been treated to yet another edition of ‘Name no Democrats’ by N&O’s Biesecker. Only mentioning the top GOP players in a story is becoming a regular event, especially if they are running for the Senate. It really fits the ‘slam, eviscerate and cripple’ pattern we’ve come to know all too well. In fact, it would appear that Biesecker’s story is pretty damn close to the big bullet points of this Democracy NC memo, which is a group tied to BluePrint NC.
I suppose anything that draws attention away from the pummeling Hagan is taking over her 24 Obamacare lies is a good thing in the mind of Democrats — even a story that broke around 6 months ago or so and is now being recycled and includes some of their own ‘best and brightest’.
I’ve included the whole list of names further down, because, you know, Biesecker didn’t include that in his report. Maybe because he didn’t want you to see the ratio. 36 were Republicans and 24 were Democrats, yet Biesecker only wrote about the Republicans. Continue reading

News & Record’s Statist Response To Home Schooling Searches
I was under the weather and out of action yesterday but perhaps might have rallied to respond to this article at the News and Record had I seen it: Home school inspections would intrude on privacy?
A day ago, the Lt. Governor’s office sent out press releases alerting the public that NDPE (Division of Non-Public Education) might be thinking about bringing back random spot inspections and searches of home schools. NDPE and the Lt. Governor’s office then issued a joint statement saying such inspections would not happen.
The article, written by Doug Clark, seems to take aim at the Lt. Governor for advocating the privacy rights of home schoolers. The article reports the facts of the case in the first couple of paragraphs, then it turns a bit statist sounding. From the article with emphasis added: Continue reading
