Occupy Monday’s First Day Back – Theatrical Flop (Images)

Occupy Monday came back for it’s first rally. The ‘Forward Together’ movement that its leaders claim is so popular and is sweeping the South had a mere hundred or so people show up according to footage shot by WRAL’s Sky Five.

Not much of a turn out for their big movement… Sky 5: Protesters march in downtown Raleigh http://t.co/AGct3Q9LPt #MoneyMonday #Theatrics

Much like their NCGA Welcoming committee, this turned out to be about the same size. The official media of Occupy Monday was there in epic style — Mark Binker and Laura Leslie from WRAL, that is. There’s video with their story. They spend a full seven minutes on what could be covered in one. Binker notes the lack of attendance and thinks it will pick up after Memorial day. Yeah, whatever.

The WRAL story headline is fun, “Monday Wrap: Many came but all were quiet”.

Why quiet? Because no Moral Monday would be complete without some kind of theatrics. They duct taped their mouths to protest new NC General Assembly building rules. No, I’m not kidding. Check out News and Record for a shot of one of them doing it. All that pot and pan banging has to stay outside. This change of course prompts Moral Monday protesters to scream, ‘I’m being repressed!!! but the rules before were too vague…’ or something.

#NCGA Proposes Building Rules Changes

The NC General Assembly is proposing some rule changes to for the legislative building and legislative office building areas. This is most likely in response to Moral Monday and the description by Judge Nancy Hamilton that the NCGA’s building’s ‘vague’ rules.

Obviously a response to the #MoralMonday protests, GOP #NCGA proposes new rules on how to behave at Capitol. http://t.co/cFzAOfZ9Xb #NCpol

— Pete Kaliner (@PeteKaliner) May 15, 2014

Those ‘vague’ rules have been in place and not revamped since 1987. Up until Moral Monday, there had been no problems with the rules and many protests had taken place — without arrests. Continue reading

Injunction On NC Opportunity Scholarships Lifted

In case you missed it, yesterday the injunction on the NC Opportunity Scholarships program imposed by Superior Court Judge Robert Hobgood was lifted. Low-income families now have an opportunity to send their children to private schools. The Opportunity Scholarships program had a base amount to start with of $10 million, which would only cover 2,400 of students to start. It’s worth noting that the program is so popular, they had to hold a lottery. Not everyone thinks assisting low-income students is the right thing to do. For example, the NC Association of Educators (NCAE):

“We feel that the program is not only unconstitutional but is also a reckless use of money,” – Mark Jewell NC Association of Educators via News and Observer 5/14/15

Wait..Serving low-income students is a reckless use of money? Gee, tell me more about how your serving the best interest of the NCAE children? Continue reading

Occupy Monday welcomed back the NC General Assembly today… hooraaaaay.

Now, with 78% more hyperbole and indignation! “@NCCapitol: A sequel to last summer’s Moral Monday protests at #ncga set to begin Monday.”

— Trip Radtke (@TripRadtke) May 14, 2014

The union desiring arm of the NCAE (Organize2020) that keeps pushing campaigns using our kids as their couriers was there:

#May14 the #NCGA comes back. @NCAE @ncnaacp @NCStateAFLCIO will be there to greet them. #ForwardTogether #OrganizeTheSouth — Organize 2020 (@Organize2020) May 14, 2014

In the tradition adopted last year, it’s the biggest Moral Monday yet! No, not really:

Dozens. RT @DavidWhisenant: Lots of folks here protesting #ncga policies. @ncnaacp @ncae Short Session starts at noon pic.twitter.com/W5ES1WJ9td — LL1885 – A.P. Dillon (@LadyLiberty1885) May 14, 2014 Continue reading

Hagan’s #DarkMoney Gets It Wrong On NC Tax Claim

Terry Stoops observes that Harry Reid’s Senate Majority PAC has earned “Three Pinocchios” from the Washington Post and takes a stab at the math done by the Left in NC, “Don’t quote me on this, but I think the Left is using Common Core math.”
HEH.

Snippet from the WaPo piece below. Note the NC Justice Center (founder of BlueprintNC famous for their attack memo) is named as the source for this false claim: Continue reading
