#CommonCore Commenter Is Moral Monday Participant

Yesterday was the public comment portion of the NC General Assembly’s Common Core study committee meetings. About 60 people spoke, 39 of which were in opposition to Common Core. The other 20 speaking in favor came from special interest groups, the NC Chamber of Commerce, the NCAE and education related professionals. It amounted to ‘experts’ versus parents:

All pro #CommonCore mesgs at #NCGA today had same underlying theme: We’re the experts, pay no attn to the parents WITNESSING the trainwreck

One of the Pro-Common Core speakers sticks out a bit and is the recipient of NC Teacher of the Year award. Ms. Dickerson is also a Moral Monday participant and towed the cripple, slam eviscerate line. Continue reading

What @WRAL Doesn’t Tell You: Two Thirds Spoke In Opposition to Common Core

There’s a gap in the media coverage on the Common Core hearing held today at the NC General Assembly:

MT @LadyLiberty1885: Public rips #CommonCore — 2/3 opposed, @WRAL reports more on who likes it. http://t.co/vFq74QQenq #stopcommoncore

Iredell Schools Pushes Pro-Core Petition

This apparently came as an ‘action alert’ to parents in Iredell-Stateville School district. I’m digging further to see if this was blasted out by email or not. It’s inappropriate at best and what’s rather disgusting about it is the blanket statement that every teacher there is on board with Common Core. More of that ‘go along to get along’ strong-arming going on over in Iredell-Statesville?

This petition is on Change.org: Continue reading

The Read To Achieve Debacle

Kristin Blair at Carolina Journal has an article up this morning that points out the issues that have come along with Sen. Berger’s Read To Achieve law. There has been mass confusion on the new law, it’s roll out (which DPI was partly responsible for by the way) and complaints from educators that the reading passages contained in it are not appropriate for 3rd graders. Continue reading

Hillary 2016: Ban Bossy!

Instapundit has it right adding a number 8:

THE SEVEN MOST RIDICULOUS THINGS about the “ban bossy” campaign. Number 8: It’s transparent Hillary2016 battlespace preparation.

I’d like to add a number 9: Continue reading
