About Those Candidate Background Checks…

News and Record did some background checks on some local candidates running for the NC General Assembly. The candidate name, district and offense were listed. Party affiliation was not. I went ahead and ran that down via the NC Board of Elections. It was kind of a no-brainer since at least 4 of them were running for Alma Adams seat, but hey — let’s play along.

Democrats are putting up such quality candidates these days…must be that quality recruiting. Felonies, misdemeanors, prison time… wow. Continue reading →

Merit Pay Per The President?

Step back to 2009, Barack Obama makes the case for Merit Pay.

Here’s what he said in 2009: “It’s time to start rewarding good teachers, and stop making excuses for bad ones. It’s time to demand results from government at every level. It’s time to prepare every child, everywhere in America, to out-compete any worker, anywhere in the world.” Source: WUNC
Merit Pay for teachers in North Carolina and the removal of tenure has a lot of people talking. Depending on who you ask, you get a different answer. Some say competition motivates continual improvement while others tout cooperation as the way. Continue reading →

CCSSO President Atkinson Starts Campaigning Early

NC State Superintendent and President of the CCSSO Dr. June Atkinson recently spent time speaking to the Carteret County Democrat party. Atkinson assaulted the current legislature for teacher pay while conveniently leaving out the role both she and former Governor Perdue played in freezing teacher pay in the first place.

Despite having the highest graduation rate in the history of the state, North Carolina’s public education system needs support to survive the recent wave of changes enacted by the General Assembly, State Superintendent of Public Instruction June Atkinson said on Saturday to county Democrats.
