Lt. Governor Forest Talks Common Core With Pete Kaliner

In case you missed it yesterday, North Carolina’s Lt. Governor Dan Forest was on the Pete Kaliner show (WWNC 570) discussing Common Core. You can access the audio file on Kaliner’s Sound Cloud.

Topics included the NC Common Core Commission, the funding for the commission being held up by being tied up by the legislature, recommendations given to the Commission and more.

I’d like to thank Pete for mentioning this blog during their discussions about the NC Common Core Commission and the recommendations given by Former Common Core Validation Committee members, Dr. Sandra Stotsky and Dr. James Milgram.

An NC Chamber Holds Common Core Propaganda Event – PT4 AUDIO

In the final installment of this series on the Common Core propaganda forum held by the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, we have audio from the meeting courtesy of Kim Fink of the Coastal Carolina Taxpayers Association. If you’re just tuning in, here is part one, two and three.
Mrs. Fink has been very engaged in the Common Core debate in North Carolina and the CCTA has been an invaluable resource on the issue. She and her husband were in attendance and have sent this audio to me. This audio supports all the previous installments in this series. I thank her for attending and for making this audio available to all who were unable to attend.

DPI’s Atkinson Unleashes Fear Mongering Rhetoric On Vouchers

I’m technically in a blog break, but some things are just too incredible not to write about.
Case in point, NC Superintendent June Atkinson’s recent remarks about vouchers. The partisan rhetoric and over the top, fear mongering language are just stunning. Emphasis below is mine.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – North Carolina Superintendent of Public Instruction June Atkinson offered a pointed critique of the state’s new voucher law during a stop in Wilmington Thursday.
“With the voucher legislation that we have we could be in dangerous territory as far as taxpayers’ dollars going to private schools,” she said prior to speaking to the N.C. School Boards Association’s Public Policy Conference. “There is nothing in the legislation that would prevent someone from establishing a school of terror.” Continue reading →

News & Record’s Statist Response To Home Schooling Searches

I was under the weather and out of action yesterday but perhaps might have rallied to respond to this article at the News and Record had I seen it: Home school inspections would intrude on privacy?

A day ago, the Lt. Governor’s office sent out press releases alerting the public that NDPE (Division of Non-Public Education) might be thinking about bringing back random spot inspections and searches of home schools. NDPE and the Lt. Governor’s office then issued a joint statement saying such inspections would not happen.

The article, written by Doug Clark, seems to take aim at the Lt. Governor for advocating the privacy rights of home schoolers. The article reports the facts of the case in the first couple of paragraphs, then it turns a bit statist sounding. From the article with emphasis added: Continue reading →

Wake County Dems Attack Lt. Governor Forest on #CommonCore

Tonight on Twitter, the Wake County Dems showed their ass – pun intended.

Our Lt Gov has no business criticizing common core standards when his own kids are homeschooled and held to no standards. #ncpol #nced

How do ya like that new tone! Why do Democrats hate homeschoolers? Oh wait, silly me they hate Dan Forest, who cares if some kids get in the way of a good old fashioned political attack.

Not to mention sheer ignorance on the requirements of and what it means to be homeschooled. Common Core is an utter train wreck; those defending it are practicing protectionism of various forms or willfully are remaining ignorant.
