Video: NCAE leaders discuss their “power” to keep NC schools closed

For months, teacher unions across the country have pressured school boards and education officials to keep schools closed to daily in-person instruction. In North Carolina, the N.C. Association of Educators (NCAE) has waged a similar campaign with social media posts and emails that say “Who decides when schools reopen? We do.”

Last night, via a Zoom meeting. NCAE members discussed the “power that they have” and how to pressure N.C. Dept. of Health and Human Services Secretary Mandy Cohen on an upcoming Zoom event over her plans to open NC schools to in-person instruction.

Raleigh Montessori teacher arrested for child sex crime charges pleads guilty

A former teacher at the Montessori School in Raleigh arrested in 2017 on over 30 child sex crime charges took a deal and entered a guilty plea this past August.

Craven County Public Schools teacher extradited to VA on forcible sodomy charge (UPDATED: Convicted)

A former Craven County Public Schools teacher has been extradited to face a charge of forcible sodomy in York County, Virginia.

UPDATE: Frederick Andrew Angoco II was convicted on Aug. 11, 2022. It is unclear exactly which charges he was convicted of, however, he received probation in Virginia of 4 years, 11 months, and 22 days. He also had to register as a sex offender for a minimum of 10 years.

Supt. Candidate forum highlights divide between support for systems versus students

Last week, the two candidates for N.C. State Superintendent of Schools participated in a candidate forum between the candidates, Republican Catherine Truitt and Democrat Jennifer Mangrum.

Through the questions asked, a stark difference between the two candidates became clear: Mangrum, backed by the N.C. Association of Educators (NCAE), supports systems and the status quo, whereas Truitt consistently seemed back whatever choice best fit students.
