#WCPSS Has ‘Student Growth’ — in Charters, Homeschools, Private Schools
Earlier in the week I highlighted a narrative about student growth in Wake County Schools.
In that earlier article, I said the following:
“These type of articles also serve another purpose, which is to attack school choice. Meanwhile, they are ignoring the multiple underlying causes of why parents are running for the exits of the public school system.
School safety is a big and increasing concern of parents as is the way the Wake Board and the NC Department of Public Instruction have ignored the parents complaints about Common Core.”

Duke Report Drives False Narrative That Charter Schools Cause Segregation
Here is the latest narrative being pushed in an attempt to stem the exodus from public schools into charter schools:
Wow, new low WaPo. #nced #schoolchoice White parents in NC are using charter schools to secede from education system http://t.co/B1pUcwy4LN
— LL1885 – A.P. Dillon (@LadyLiberty1885) April 15, 2015
Got that?
The Duke University report wants you to know that if you’re white and put your kid in a charter school, you’re adding to segregation. The subtext here is that by choosing a charter school, these parents are racists.

CCSSO President Questions Testing For Homeschoolers
Yesterday, I reported on the Holshouser Legislators Retreat 2015. This was an invitation only event with various NC educrats, legislators, “non-profits” and businesses discussing your child’s education future without you – again.
One tweet I left out of the previous story was from the President of the Council of Chief State School Officers. Folks in North Carolina know her as the NC State Superintendent, June Atkinson.
Dr. Atkinson tweeted this question out at the Holhouser event:

Backpack Funding: Make the Money Follow The Student
The amount of money that has been thrown at education from various sources over the last 50 years is staggering. One thing has been learned from said money throwing is that it isn’t working.
If you haven’t read The K- 12 Implosion yet, you should.
(VIDEO CLIP)
I just finished looking at the 2014 grants for ‘College Ready’ on the Gates Foundation site. This lesson of money throwing at education is something Bill Gates apparently hasn’t learned. The 2014 ‘College Ready’ grants totaled over $92 million.
Over at Reason.com, I spotted this video on Backpack funding for education. This is a very different approach to funding for education.
