An NC Chamber Holds Common Core Propaganda Event – PT 2
Earlier this morning, I published a lengthy article detailing the Common Core pushing NC Chamber’s recent forum. Tweets from an attendee at the forum, as well as the line up of speakers prove what the event was about. It clearly was a Common Core event, yet the NC Chamber is deny it:
@LadyLiberty1885 The North Carolina Chamber did not host a Common Core event yesterday.
— NC Chamber (@NCChamber) May 22, 2014
Oh, we’re playing semantics are we? The Greater Raleigh Chamber played host. I’ll play that game — the new title for this series is now “AN NC Chamber Holds Common Core Propaganda Event”.
Reminder: The article I published this morning was part one, this is an impromptu part two. I have more coming. Continue reading
NC Chamber Holds Common Core Propaganda Forum – PT 1
Yesterday in Raleigh, the NC Chamber continued to wage war on the opponents to Common Core by holding a forum at Marbles Kids Museum. At this forum, speakers and guests included far Left leaning NC state Senator Stein, the COO of Achieve, Inc. and a few teachers who made some rather unsettling claims about the Common Core. Several people from SAS were there, of course. Remember, SAS has a ton of money to gain from Common Core, yet their own Cary Academy doesn’t use it. Hypocrisy anyone? The only opposition was our Lt. Governor, Dan Forest. Good for him for getting there and representing the will of the people.
Please note, this is part one of two on this event. I have more coming.
Politicizing by an NC Senator, propaganda from Achieve Inc. and the Wake County Teacher of the Year who claims she is a better teacher because of a set of standards. GOOD TIMES. Read more and see the tweets from the event… Continue reading

The Real Deal On The NC Common Core Bill
First Things First – Clearing the air
Those who follow this blog know I have been on the front lines of this fight for coming up on two years. Speaking for myself, I’ve given more time to this issue than I care to think about. It’s cost me friendships, time with my family and has been a big source of stress overall. Having said that, I wouldn’t change any of it since I’m fighting for my children and the children of NC.
Myself and others have done the presentation circuit and the radio shows. We’ve been testifying at various forums and in front of the Common Core Study committee. We’ve been writing, researching and meeting with legislators. All of this has culminated in a HB1061/SB812 – Replace Common Core To Fit NC’s Needs. This bill now has a companion in the Senate. Here are the bills that are relevant to the fight against Common Core:
SB815 – Ensuring Privacy of Student Records
SB812 – Replace Common Core To Meet NC’s Needs
Getting HB1061/SB812 passed is critical to being able to move forward with getting rid of the rest of it. It is critical we get the commission to replace up and running. Common Core is like a hydra, you can’t cut off all the heads at one time. Continue reading

Arnold on NCSPIN: Your donations will go to push Common Core
Former NC General Assembly member and board member of NC Schools Public Forum went on NCSPIN and talked about Common Core. What we heard was the same talking points coming out of the NC Chamber. In fact, Arnold would go on to say the Chamber will use political donations as a threat in order to force keeping Common Core. Keep reading, we’ll get to the clips from the show.
This set of pro-Common Core talking points used by Arnold is unsurprising for a few reasons. For one thing, Arnold is a board member of Public School Forum NC, which is partnered with the NC Chamber of Commerce. Another reason being that Chambers of Commerce and Business groups in multiple states all bought the Common Core sales job.
The NC Chamber’s Education Foundation has just such an initiative called “Hire Standards”. The NC Chamber’s Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) according to their site and 990 forms. The Education Foundation received $25,000 from the NC Chamber in 2012 according to their Schedule 1 in their 990 tax filing. 2013 is not available yet, but a good guess is the amount is larger. Make no mistake, “Hire Standards” is a who’s who of pro-Common Core, including the owners of the copyrighted standards, The CCSSO — of which State Superintendent Atkinson is now President-elect. Conflict of interest anyone?

NC Chamber Wants Their Common Core Workers
Color me not shocked:
Of course, b/c kids = human capital to them MT @LindsayWagnerNC:NC Chamber rejects NCGA proposal to ditch CommonCore http://t.co/l4JpDPYvg3
— LL1885 – A.P. Dillon (@LadyLiberty1885) April 27, 2014
Totally predictable. I sat in the meeting where Gary Salamido, Vice President of Government Affairs for the NC Chamber, got up in front of the NCGA’s Common Core LRC and managed to skip talking about or saying the word children. Instead his terminology was ‘talent supply’, ‘skilled worker’ or generically a couple mentioning of ‘students’. His speech was all about creating a nice compliant workforce. It was about jobs standards, not the education of our children. To Salamido and the NC Chamber, this is about ‘jobs’ in the future… which even they cannot predict the future of or availability of. Even their press release rejecting the NCGA’s steps to remove Common Core is devoid of the words kids, child or children. Continue reading

The Read To Achieve Debacle
Kristin Blair at Carolina Journal has an article up this morning that points out the issues that have come along with Sen. Berger’s Read To Achieve law. There has been mass confusion on the new law, it’s roll out (which DPI was partly responsible for by the way) and complaints from educators that the reading passages contained in it are not appropriate for 3rd graders. Continue reading
