SAS’s “Wake Ed Partnership” Rebrands (UPDATED)

News and Observer WakeEd Blog: Wake Education Partnership rebrands itself as ‘WakeEd’

Snippet:

Make room for two WakeEd’s in Wake County, but please don’t confuse the two.

The Wake Education Partnership announced Monday that it’s rebranding itself as “WakeEd.” As loyal readers of this blog know, we’re also called “WakeEd.”

The rebrand is the latest effort by the WakeEd Partnership, which is backed by the business community to boost the Wake County school system, to try to boost its visibility. Throughout its 32-year history, most Wake County residents have said in surveys that they’ve never heard of the non-profit organization.

“We Don’t Need Last Minute Change”

Stop me if you’ve heard this line recently:

“They do not need a last-minute change. They do not need chaos in the classroom.”

Sounds like the NC Chamber of Commerce or perhaps Senator Stein or Rep. Brandon complaining about dropping the Common Core? Maybe Dr. Atkinson?

It’s none of them, although any one of them has said something similar in the last few weeks. No, this quote comes from Louisiana’s state superintendent. Continue reading

Chamber Watch: NC Chamber Of Commerce Fear mongers On #HB1061

Chamber Watch: Keeping an eye on the Chambers of Commerce Core

Today’s article is on The NC Chamber of Commerce. Yesterday the NC General Assembly’s House passed HB 1061, Replace Common Core To Meet NC’s Needs. The response of the NC Chamber of Commerce was to fear monger:

Fear Mongering & False. RT @NCChamber: HB1061 sends a signal to job creators in NC & every state that NC not ready to compete. #ncga

— LL1885 – A.P. Dillon (@LadyLiberty1885) June 5, 2014

The NC Chamber has pushed the flawed and experimental Common Core as some kind of magic bullet that will create this amazing “21st Century Workforce” without one shred of evidence that these standards do anything they claim to. In fact, the evidence is to the contrary: Continue reading

NC Chamber Promotes 2014 Conference On Education

On the NC Chamber of Commerce website, there is an announcement about the 2014 Conference on Education being held this August. The big sponsor? Biogen Idec. The same Biogen Idec who was one of the companies who sponsored the Greater Raleigh Chamber’s Common Core propaganda forum last week.

The same Biogen Idec who is part of the NC Chamber’s “Hire Standards” campaign which seeks push Common Core at any cost and to mute parent opposition voices with their money and influence.

Biogen Idec is also tied to the NC Public Schools Forum. The same NC Public Schools Forum of which Board member Gene Arnold sit on.
Reminder:
According to Gene Arnold, “Big Biz” is blackmailing legislators over HB1061.

Biogen Idec also dropped $250k into Massachusetts and Durham, NC area schools to boost STEM learning. Punchline: Common Core utterly fails STEM students. In fact, the math portion of Common Core sets kids back 2 years.

Biogen Idec also dropped $25k to the Common Core pushing NC New Schools. NC News Schools, Inc. has received millions from the Gates Foundation to push Common Core.
If this was happening in any area other than education, the Left leaning media would be screaming about big business money corrupting the system. Their silence now is deafening.

By the way, the Greater Raleigh Chamber event was $30 bucks to attend and in the middle of the morning smack in the middle of a school week. That meant parents couldn’t get to it. This event by the NC Chamber? Well, if you’re a non-member then you need to have $175 bucks lying around in order to attend.
Details from the NC Chamber site are as follows: Continue reading

An NC Chamber Holds Common Core Propaganda Event – PT4 AUDIO

In the final installment of this series on the Common Core propaganda forum held by the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, we have audio from the meeting courtesy of Kim Fink of the Coastal Carolina Taxpayers Association. If you’re just tuning in, here is part one, two and three.
Mrs. Fink has been very engaged in the Common Core debate in North Carolina and the CCTA has been an invaluable resource on the issue. She and her husband were in attendance and have sent this audio to me. This audio supports all the previous installments in this series. I thank her for attending and for making this audio available to all who were unable to attend.

The audio is a little bit below the speaker list. I’ve got some notes underneath it, please give them a look as some of them should raise red flags. Read up on the real facts before listening. Speakers list per the GRCC site is below. Muriel Summers was a no-show. Continue reading

An NC Chamber Holds Common Core Propaganda Event – PT 3

This is the third installment delving into the Common Core propaganda event held by the Raleigh Chamber. Remember, the NC Chamber corrected me — it’s the Raleigh chamber, not the NC Chamber. Right, whatever. The whole lot of them are pushing Common Core. Po-tay-toe, po-tah-toe.

Here is Part One and Two. This is part three and I still have more coming. In part three, we look at the report from another attendee, Anthony Bruno. Mr. Bruno has been very engaged in the Common Core debate going on in NC. He attended the forum and the highlights of his letter below include Senator Stein and other panel members politicizing the topic. Stein went as far as say people who don’t like Common Core just don’t like Obama. WOW.

During the first panel Sen. Josh Stein took the occasion to mention he had been told people are against it only because President Obama is for it.

Politicizing. I told you, it’s the new attack line and the only ones politicizing are Pro-Core people like Senator Stein. His colleagues like Rep. Cotham, Rep. Brandon and Sen. Parmon all have used this same theme. Even McCrory’s Democrat Education advisor has used it: Continue reading
