Wake Supt. Email: Cuts to Teacher, Student Budget Items but 3% Increases to ‘Support Staff’

Wake county school officials appear unable to work with an increased budget of over $1.4 billion dollars according to an email to staff obtained by this site penned by the Superintendent of Wake County Schools and David Neter, Chief Operating Officer.

The emails detail the cuts to school level services to ‘close the $17.5 million dollar budget gap’ while simultaneously indicating a 3% pay raise and a half percent bonus for non-teaching support staff. Continue reading →

WCPSS Board’s ShortFall Translates To HardFall For Staff, Parents, Students

Yesterday there was a lot of discussion about the Wake County Schools (WCPSS) budget ‘shortfall’. That shortfall has a price tag of $16.8 million.

Given that WCPSS has over a billion dollar budget, what transpired yesterday should have parents questioning how the board spends their money.

Wake Cty Hires 8 New Principals

News and Observer is reporting the hiring (or shifting around of) of 8 new principals in Wake county. Four are interim appointments.
Also, here come higher taxes — the original $1.7 billion dollar proposed Wake county schools budget was passed by the Wake County Commissioners at a lower total of $1.1 billion. Continue reading →
