GUEST POST: Are #NCGA Legislators Listening To Parents?
Over the last month, me and the army of moms in North Carolina fed up and concerned with Common Core have been deluging the legislature with letters and calls. One of these fighters has been collecting responses. So far, out of 150 letters sent, she’s seen a small return. Having said that, some of the responses should be noted by parents as to who in the NC General Assembly wants to keep the straps of the Common Core in place over our children’s education and over our state’s sovereignty. While the House shows clear support for getting rid of Common Core in the responses below, the Senate does not.
Below is what was sent to me. I have only altered the text in order to better format it for presentation in this article. If parents out there want a bigger microphone to express their displeasure with Common Core or have received responses back they wish to share, I will happily offer this blog as a place they can do so. Common Core And Minority Students
Test results in multiple states over the last two years have come back showing a greater disparity and drop in scores since the introduction of Common Core. Minority scores have, arguably, been hardest hit. So then why does an organization like this one below seem to be sold on the idea Common Core is what the black community needs? Money? Did they swallow the ‘career and college ready’ bait that hard? Is their idea of college ready being prepared for a 2 year non-selective college? Because that is the stated goal of Common Core.
Perhaps someone should show BAEO the testimony of Dr. Gary Thompson, wherein he lays out the testing around Common Core and how they are discriminatory against minorities and special needs kids.

Letter: Gov. McCrory, It Is Not Smart To Continue Common Core
The following is a letter from a concerned citizen of North Carolina, Anthony Bruno, to Governor Pat McCrory. Those of you following this blog have noted that our Governor has his heart in the right place, but the information he is getting on Common Core is coming from those with a vested interested in making sure it stays put.

Good Friends,
Gov. McCrory has been disappointing in his continued support of Common Core. I believe he has been influenced by people who know little about it, yet continue to promote it.
This is the reason I went to the governor’s website and completed the form to urge him to support legislation to replace Common Core with a state developed standard recently passed by the General Assembly.
If you agree Common Core is not the best education standard for NC students, please take a few minutes and let the governor know why.

Duncan Plays His Last Card: Politicizing
Over the course of the last few months, proponents of Common Core have accused the opposition of ‘playing politics’, turning Common Core into a ‘political football’ , ‘being against this White House’ and being ‘against this President’.
All of this falls under the umbrella of politicizing the debate. This politicizing the debate on education is nothing more than a tactic employed to silence opposition. It’s the last card played in this debate and others. It means the other side is desperate; they can’t defend the standards. It means proponents are losing the messaging war. It’s shutuppery.
It means we’re winning.
White Suburban Politican Arne Duncan just flopped down the politicizing card.
U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan sternly admonished Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin for signing a bill to repeal the controversial Common Core education standards in her state.
Both Indiana and South Carolina have also opted out of the state standards backed by the Obama administration after initially adopting them. But Duncan’s fire was aimed at Fallin, the chairwoman of the National Governors Association, the organization that helped develop the standards.
“The Oklahoma example is a pretty interesting one,” Duncan said during a White House press briefing Monday. “Let me give you a couple of facts. I think sadly, this is not about education. This is about politics.” – The Blaze
