Wake Cty Sheriff Race Brings In Social Justice Rhetoric
Wake County Sheriff candidate Willie Rowe made a statement captured by the News and Observer that caught my eye. Emphasis added is mine:
“I am a 28-year veteran of the sheriff’s office,” Rowe said during a meeting with the editorial board of The News & Observer. “In my 28 years, I have seen first-hand the impact crime has on families, communities and the future. I want to partner together with the community to improve public safety, close the revolving door to jail and shut down the school-to-prison pipeline.”
“school-to-prison pipeline”
GEE, We’ve heard that one before. Continue reading

#NCSPIN On Test Scores And ‘Lowering The Bar’ (Video)
Episode #828 of NCSPIN covered the recent release of test scores in North Carolina. The host, Tom Campbell, opens up this portion of the show with a statement of ‘at first glance it looks like our schools made great gains’. The raised passing rate is quoted and then it’s mentioned that the scoring system was changed which made it easier to pass the tests and making it nearly impossible to compare this year to any past year’s scores.

Don’t Like Common Core? You Must Be A Cranky Elderly Veteran…Or Something.
The YouTube Channel profile for ‘Common Core’ states the following; emphasis is mine:
“As a group of film makers we work all the time with schools and teachers from around the country. We heard that many educators have had a tough time getting the word out about the Common Core and dispelling some of the myths that are out there. We created what we hope are fun and humorous stories to do just that.”
Apparently, their idea of fun and humorous is to mock elderly veterans by portraying them as some kind of doddering, conspiracy theory nuts.
No, not kidding. Watch:

NCSPIN Covers NC Homeschool Explosion
At the tail end of NCSPIN episode #827, they covered the explosion in homeschool rates in North Carolina.
At about 23:44, the host makes mention that a lot of the feedback from those pulling their kids to homeschool was due to Common Core, then segues into the NC General Assembly ordering a “re-working” of Common Core. The host asks former Lt. Governor Wicker if the changes to the Common Core will bring those parents and students back into the public school system. Wicker said no, ‘more and more find it an attractive option’. Wicker also did an apologist dance for the Core, saying it was ‘misunderstood’.
