Your Donations To Progress NC Are Tax Exempt… Except When They’re Not. (UPDATES)

It appears that possibly Progress NC hasn’t been following the law with regards to donations made to the organization. The general gist here is that Progress NC apparently did not renew its solicitation license for non tax exempt status around mid-May of this year, yet has been receiving donations under the pretext the organization was compliant. #BlueprintNC Mondays Losing Steam… But Not Caskets?

This was Moral Monday 18. This one was a “Youth” led event complaining about SB 589 also known as VIVA. The turn out was the biggest event ever! About two dozen turned out from the looks of the ABC 11 shot:

Protest Fatigue or have they worn out their welcome like Occupy? Maybe both.
I found two live streams of the event and both kept the camera zoomed in on the speaker. When they did pan, all 3 or so dozen people were clapping wildly and I am including the throng around the podium in that assessment. (Stream 1, Stream 2)

By the way, Reverend Barber got up last and went on to talk about the Birmingham bombing. Barber went on to say that the blood of those 4 girls who were murdered in Birmingham 50 years ago was now on the hands of the members of the NCGA, Speaker Tillis and Governor McCrory. Continue reading

PPP Flawed Methodology Not A Bug, But A Feature?

In my travels this morning, I spied an article at New Republic about Public Policy Polling entitled, There’s Something Wrong With America’s Premier Liberal Pollster – The problem with PPP’s methodology. The article points out that PPP has been deleting questions to avoid criticism, following no consistent methodology, bad sampling and, in essence, weighting questions to get the results they like.
Excerpts with emphasis added:

After examining PPP’s polls from 2012 and conducting a lengthy exchange with PPP’s director, I’ve found that PPP withheld controversial elements of its methodology, to the extent it even has one, and treated its data inconsistently….. Continue reading

Calling All Watchdogs: Voter Integrity BootCamp 2013

Voter ID, Voter Fraud, Voter Integrity. These phrases and more like them have been on the lips of most in North Carolina in recent months. The new law, nicknamed VIVA, that requires voters show ID at the polls won’t go into effect until 2016 but we have upcoming elections in 2014. How can we protect our elections during the next election cycle? We get involved.

I’ve done it by writing and taking action. So can you. Learn how!

The Voter Integrity Project has just such a way citizens can get involved in the process. They are holding their first ever Voter Integrity BootCamp on September 14th from 9 am to 5:30 pm in Morrisville, NC. They have Dr. Tim Daughtry, author of Waking the Sleeping Giant, lined up as their keynote speaker. More detailed event information, including ticket purchases can be found on their website.

What If NC AFL-CIO Threw A Picket And No One Came?

Well, T.G.I.F everyone!

We made it though this crazy week of pickets, marches and strikes. Speaking of pickets… This past Sunday I wrote about the upcoming ‘Picket Posh House GOP Fundraiser’ event set up and promoted by the NC AFL-CIO. The picketing went on this past Tuesday. No local media covered it. I even forgot about it until today. On Sunday, I speculated they might have protest fatigue — you know, all the Moral Monday-ing and all, and it looks like perhaps that speculation was right.

Poor sacks. Had to picket waaaaaaay down the entrance road and out on the opposite sidewalk to the Carolina Country Club. Continue reading
