#MoralMonday and @WRAL Get Owned by Civitas
Over at ABC 11, there’s a story up about the Moral Monday protesters trying to save their credibility in the face of Civitas’ breakdown of their movement. I was happy to see this site pop up since I’ve been slogging at this movement alone for some time now. I was equally happy to see them call out local media on their biased coverage. Continue reading

#MoralMonday: @WRAL In Full CYA Mode For NAACP, Lefties
If you thought WRAL couldn’t bend over backwards any further to legitimize the NAACP’s “Moral Monday”, you were wrong. A crack team of ‘researchers’, mainly from UNC Chapel Hill, have now decided to show up and poll the crowd. All 317 of them. It’s worth noting that quite a number of UNC Chapel Hill employees have been among those arrested in prior weeks.
Funny side note: I zinged WRAL about not having reporters actually out checking out the crowd and voila, now we have a whole team of researchers out there! Fun coincidence.
“Researchers find ‘Moral Monday’ crowd mostly from North Carolina”
Raleigh, N.C. — A team of researchers say a survey of the crowd at tonight’s “Moral Monday” protest shows that at least 311 of 317 of those surveyed are from North Carolina.
The protests, which have been led by the NAACP, have been organized to express opposition to a number of policies put forward by the Republican-controlled legislature. Spending on health care and changes to voting procedures have been staple targets of the protests, although tonight’s speeches focused on the environment and women’s health.
During the past two weeks, lawmakers and other high-profile Republicans, including state party chairman Claude Pope, have dismissed the protesters as “outsiders.” That line has been refined in recent days to say that there are “outside influences” on the protests. In fact, groups such as the Washington, D.C.-based Advancement Project have helped provide organization and media outreach for protesters.
That’s special, WRAL. Nice try. Your story and these researchers address THIS week’s protest, but not the June 3rd one. WRAL and the NAACP desperately want everyone to forget how after two weeks between protests that drew at most 250 people, suddenly there were over 1,000. It was magic.
On June 3rd, the number of people allegedly swelled over 1,000. That increase was due to influx of SEIU astroturf. WRAL came out hard denying that any out of towners were there pumping up the numbers by basing their crowd estimate on out-of-state attendees arrested over the course of all the protests to date. How stupid does WRAL think readers are?
What is funny is that their crack team of ‘researchers’ did confirm what I’ve been saying from the start. The crowd is mainly ticked off, old, White Liberals. In fact, overwhelmingly so:
Ethnicity Count Percentage
White 250 79.9%
African American 53 16.9%
Hispanic 6 1.9%
Asian/Pacific Islander/ Indian 4 1.3%
Gee, imagine that.
WRAL has also reported that 84 arrests were made yesterday. WRAL must have a special relationship with the Wake County Sheriff or General Assembly Police –because the ability to look up these arrests on the P2co website has been axed for the average tax paying citizen. Continue reading
Durbin Unsure Bloggers Covered By First Amendment
Dick Durbin isn’t sure Bloggers are covered by the First Amendment:
[youtube=http://youtu.be/eSiTJj6cBzo]You gotta be kidding me. How repugnant.
Durbin is backing a ‘media shield law’ alongside Lindsay ‘I need to be primaried’ Graham that seemingly wants to go beyond the various state shield laws protecting reporters from divulging their sources. Key quote from Durbin Via Daily Caller:
“But here is the bottom line — the media shield law, which I am prepared to support, and I know Sen. Graham supports, still leaves an unanswered question, which I have raised many times: What is a journalist today in 2013? We know it’s someone that works for Fox or AP, but does it include a blogger? Does it include someone who is tweeting? Are these people journalists and entitled to constitutional protection? We need to ask 21st century questions about a provision that was written over 200 years ago.”
Dear Dick Durbin: It’s called the First Amendment. Everyone has the right to free speech. Yes, that includes bloggers. Here’s a reminder:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
Is Durbin suggesting we need to create a media class? Our “media” is already running amok and can barely bring themselves to do their jobs. To designate a special class, protected in what they write, lends itself to even further abuse. Suggesting that there needs to be some kind of journalist class pushes the idea that there then needs to be registration of some kind. Who would do that registration and credential giving? The obvious answer is the government and voila, welcome to State Run Media.
Nick Gillespie makes the similar points to mine:
It’s easy to understand why he would be bothered by unwanted leaks in his administration. But his problem is the press’s gain. By definition, any media-shield law is predicated upon the government defining just who counts as a “journalist” and is thus worthy of protection—and who doesn’t count and is thus subject to prosecution. Thanks, President Obama, but we don’t need no stinking press badges, especially in an age where all sorts of decentralized reporting and unconventional news gathering come online faster than the next second-term scandal. The First Amendment is all the shield law any American needs, especially when it’s supplemented by the protections offered by the Fourth and Fifth Amendments. What we really need is a president who lives by the Constitution more than he nods to it.
EXACTLY. Read the whole thing.
As a blogger, I see things locally and nationally that others might not see. I report on those things to those who subscribe to me or wish to listen. I am one of millions out there and that is a very good thing. We need more voices, not fewer. Giving different perspectives, opinions and information is essential for a free society. It is the need to speak out and offer a different opinion that started me blogging in the first place. I don’t get paid for this. I do this because I believe in what I write and I have every right to be heard. I do this so my kids will have the same ability to speak out that I have. Right now, with Durbin’s statement and the mounting scandals in this administration, that fight is more real than I truly ever wanted to imagine.
Bottom Line:
No one select group of people should have an official stamp on news and information or have a soapbox all their own. That is how freedom and liberty die and dictatorships are formed. Continue reading
I Am Your Worst Nightmare
Open Letter to America:
Call me a monster if you wish, I am quite large after all. Funny how when no one is paying attention to how appearances can change. Anyhow, thought I would drop you a note with just a taste of what I have done, what I can do, and what I may do. Keep it on the down low, but I gotta tell ya….I am your worst nightmare.
Here is my resume..
I can go after your beliefs, and your traditions. Nothing will be sacred to me. I will make you to “see it my way” because “it’s for you own good” oh, and if you don’t, I will attack you, belittle you, shame you. You are in the way.
You can speak out about me if you want, however, be careful, because I can hear everything you say. I am everywhere. Don’t think for a moment that my true believers wont root you out. Don’t speak against me.
If you dissent, or oppose me, (do you really want to go there?) I can send out my minions to degrade you, smear you, and discredit you . You will be considered the lowest of human beings. It is in my best interest that I do this. Then, if you continue to defy me, I may keep you from having any platform for you to speak on. You will have no way of getting out any of your views. I will make sure of that. I will take away your ability to learn anything of value. I can make your life a living hell. I will silence you.

Dix Campus Land Deal Giveaway Is History
Today, the Dorthea Dix land giveaway was revoked, saving the taxpayers untold millions:
.@ncsenatedems stood tall for ITB, but Senate passed bill protecting all NC taxpayers from the raw deal on Dix park #ncpol #ncga
— NCSenate Republicans (@MyNCSenate) March 26, 2013
My previous article, Dix Land Sale Gets Heated, noted that WRAL owner Jim Goodmon gave some lively testimony in favor of the lease and park plan which included what seemed to many to be a veiled threat to Chairman Apodaca. From the headline at WRAL this afternoon, it would seem Apodaca was right to feel threatened:
Senate OK’s tearing up Dix Park Lease
The state Senate on Tuesday approved voiding Raleigh’s lease of the former Dorothea Dix site, calling on the city to pay more for a smaller piece of the 325-acre parcel to create an urban park.
An amended version of Senate Bill 334 passed on a 29-21 vote. The measure now goes to the House.
Under the terms of a 99-year lease signed in December by Raleigh Mayor Nancy McFarlane and former Gov. Beverly Perdue, the city would pay $500,000 a year – plus annual escalators – for the Dix site, allowing officials to convert it into a “destination park.”
Republican lawmakers criticized the deal, which they said didn’t provide the state with a fair return. They also said it would end up costing taxpayers money because state Department of Health and Human Services offices at the site would have to be moved.
Also:
The legislation, along with a companion bill in the House, calls for the lease to be renegotiated at a fair-market price, with the proceeds designated for mental health programs. Also, DHHS would be allowed to maintain its offices on part of the site.
The smell of media bias is thick as it spends more than half of the article reporting the plight of the proponent’s case. The NC Senate made the same observation of the headline:
Did Jim Goodmon write this headline himself? #conflictofinterest#sourgrapes RT @wral: Senate OKs tearing up Dix park lease #ncpol#ncga
— NCSenate Republicans (@MyNCSenate) March 26, 2013
The News and Observer didn’t do much better: State Senate votes to throw out Dix lease. At least ABC 11’s kept it factual and adjective free: NC Senate passes Dix bill by a vote of 29-21.
From the ABC 11 article:
The current lease gives the state up to $68 million over the next 75 years as Raleigh city boosters turn 325 acres into a regional destination park. The bill would require a lease with a higher price, fewer acres and proceeds benefiting mental health programs. The proposal now goes to the House of Representatives.
325 acres close to downtown and Perdue’s price was $68 million over 75 years. That’s right, only around half a million a year, for a ‘destination park’ that would like cost taxpayers at least that much to maintain. That’s not even taking into account the cost to develop it, which DIX306 founder and equipment mogul, Greg Poole, no likely would have gotten a piece of the action. One has a hard time believing anyone would be pushing this deal for 7 years and not be profiting from it in some way.
No matter how loud the proponents of the park complain, when you look at those numbers you cannot tell people this was a financially responsible deal for the state to be making. Continue reading

Raleigh: Dix Land Sale Hearing Gets Heated
One of the last acts former Democrat Governor, Bev Perdue, performed was a widely unpopular land give-away deal involving the Dorthea Dix Campus. Recently, North Carolina legislators have begun the process of undoing the deal. Continue reading
