Common Core Conflicts Of Interest from Massachusetts to NC
Well, as Common Core and the high stakes testing controversy heats up nationwide, more calls for accountability and of conflicts of interest emerge. We’ve seen Oklahoma Governor Fallin be called out for her dual role with the National Governors Association. This time in Massachusetts.
North Carolina has a similar conflict, as our State Superintendent of Education also serves as President Elect of the CCSSO – one of the two trade organizations responsible for Common Core and who hold the copyright on the standards. Continue reading
Carville Wants Jeb To Be GOP Nominee?
Democrats really want Jeb Bush to be the nominee. See how James Carville named Bush without naming him in this ABC “This Week” clip. Stick around and see why Jeb won’t win. Continue reading

Why Does Buncombe School Board Hate Kids?
I have to shake my head when it comes to the protectionism of the status quo on vouchers that would benefit low income kids from school boards like Buncombe. They then doubled their dumb by refusing to seek clarification of the Common Core — something that even the NC General Assembly has chosen to do.
After sometimes heated debate, the Buncombe County Schools Board of Education passed a resolution Thursday night expressing opposition to what some members called “vouchers” for private schools.
The board also narrowly voted against passing a resolution to seek clarification of federal Common Core curriculum standards, as well as an assessment of those standards and the financial impact they have.

Tampon Earring Aficionado Joins Wake Forest Faculty
Tampon Earring Aficionado comes to the Tarheel state. Wake Forest has hired Melissa Harris-Perry. The description by the Provost really laid it on thick:
Melissa Harris-Perry is one of the nation’s foremost intellectuals publicly exploring—and thoughtfully influencing—the intersections of politics, race, gender, religion and culture,” said Wake Forest Provost Rogan Kersh. “We are delighted that she has chosen to come home to Wake Forest and help ignite in our students the passion she has for contemporary political issues and social justice.”
“One of the nation’s Foremost Intellectuals”… yeah, right. What just happened is that MSNBC lost a race-baiting, pot stirring talking head with a penchant for Orwellian speak with regards other people’s children and Wake Forest gained an indoctrination Diva. Continue reading
NC Schools ‘Tools For Learning’
With the rise of technology in the classroom, the use of cell phones and other internet related device use, kid are exposed to all kinds of information. Some very useful and some… well, not so much. In fact, the ability for kids to roam to inappropriate materials in the digital age both at home and at school is a real concern for parents.
After a few tweets about NC Resources, I did some digging. Well, there’s a whole set of online documents in a ‘live binder’ out there on the interwebs. Parent should go explore this live binder for NC Public Schools. The Web Resources A-Z located in the NCDPI Information Technology Toolkit caught my eye, mainly because I’d never seen it before. Why isn’t this made more prominent so parents can view it?
The majority of these web links are good or useful applications, but there were a few that were not. One suggested sketchy one is Dipity, which is an internet meme timelines site. Dipity is not somewhere I would let my kid wander. Just a few examples below – NSFW language warning: Continue reading
Merit Pay Per The President?
Step back to 2009, Barack Obama makes the case for Merit Pay.
Here’s what he said in 2009: “It’s time to start rewarding good teachers, and stop making excuses for bad ones. It’s time to demand results from government at every level. It’s time to prepare every child, everywhere in America, to out-compete any worker, anywhere in the world.” Source: WUNC
Merit Pay for teachers in North Carolina and the removal of tenure has a lot of people talking. Depending on who you ask, you get a different answer. Some say competition motivates continual improvement while others tout cooperation as the way. Continue reading
