Stotky’s Common Core Post Blocked By Facebook

This morning, I spotted the news that Facebook was blocking a specific article by Sandra Stotsky. The article is up on Breitbart.com and appears to be blocked based on it’s content by Facebook. I was able to post a different story to Facebook from Breitbart with NO problem.

Gee, that would mean that a group of folks reported the link as dangerous and Facebook locked it down. Yes, I concur with the title of Missouri Education Watchdog’s article on this turn of events: We must be winning if this is what proponents are resorting to.

Missouri Education Watchdog sounded off:

See this notice? Plans to eliminate common core and adopt common core standards are detected to be “unsafe” by Facebook security standards.
Dr. Sandra Stotsky refused to sign off on the ELA Common Core Standards. She published a plan (in Breitbart) for school districts to stop CCSS implementation in their districts. When folks tried to share it on Facebook, the above notice appeared.

Here is the plan published in Local School Districts Should Eliminate Common Core and Adopt Stronger Standards:

To my readers, here is your mission: FIGHT BACK.

1. Attempt to post this link to your page: http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2014/05/25/Local-School-Districts-Should-Eliminate-Common-Core-And-Adopt-Stronger-Standards

2. The pop-up you see in the MO Ed Watchdog article will come up.

3. Click the link at the bottom that says “let us know”.

4. Give Facebook a piece of your mind. Continue reading

#DM7 Article: The Common Core And White Privilege

This is a reposting of my weekly DaTechGuy Article: The Common Core and White Privilege.

—————————————————–

By A.P. Dillon

This is a look at the ‘experts’ behind Common Core. First, let’s recap the tactics used by the proponents to silence the opposition to the standards.

Common Core Shutuppery

So, to date, Common Core opposition have been called stupid, sad, misguided, liars, racists, conspiracy theory nuts and more for opposing the fundamentally flawed and experimental standards. Opposition has been mocked by the same people promoting Common Core and parents have been arrested for speaking out at forums and school board meetings. I’ve chronicled some of this here already in The New Tone Of Common Core, but more has transpired since then. Continue reading

#NCGA Rep. Glazier Clueless On Common Core

We’ve got another Common Core “politicizing” alert coming out of another legislators at the NC General Assembly. This time it’s Democrat Rep. Rick Glazier:
“If the bill is really to revoke the standards and replace them with North Carolina standards, that would be extremely destructive and very destabilizing,” said state Rep. Rick Glazier, a Democrat from Fayetteville and a former Cumberland County school board member. “But if all that’s happening is the (GOP) majority is patting the base on the head and just changing the name, then it’s a pretty fraudulent bill that won’t do much harm.”

But that still would be bad, he said, “because it sends a lack-of-stability message through a system that’s already struggling with upheaval.” – FayObserver 5/24/14

Exactly how would it be “extremely destructive and very destabilizing” to remove the fundamentally flawed and experimental standards from our schools, Mr. Glazier? I think Mr. Glazier is listening more to the money from the Chamber of Commerce than he is to the reality about Common Core.

Gene Arnold Common Core NCSPIN Quote

To make a statement like that, it would require that Rep. Glazier is willfully politicizing this topic or that he lacks any real knowledge about Common Core. Tell me, who spoon-fed that talking point to you, because it’s very similar to ones we’ve heard from Rep. Marcus Brandon, Rep.Tricia Cotham and Sen. Josh Stein. Let’s not forget the NC Chamber of Commerce and The Raleigh Chamber either.

Reminder: Senators Stein implies you are racist if you oppose Common Core. Continue reading

Roxboro 8th Grader’s Controversial Reading Assignment

A parents sent me screenshots of a book being read by an 8th grader in the Roxboro, North Carolina area. The book is Endgame by Nancy Garden. It’s rated by Gates funded Scholastic Books as being for 9th-12th graders, yet this 8th grader is now reading it. The book is described like this on the Scholastic site:

A new town, a new school, a new start. That’s what fourteen-year-old Gray Wilton believes as he chants,” “”It’s gonna be better, gonna be better here.” But it doesn’t take long for Gray to realize that nothing’s going to change–there are bullies in every school, and he’s always their punching bag. Their brutal words, physical abuse, and emotional torture escalate until Gray feels trapped in a world where he has no control, no support systems, and no way out–until the day he enters the halls of Greenford High School with his father’s semiautomatic in hand.
Award-winning novelist Nancy Garden, author of the groundbreaking novel “Annie on My Mind,” once again goes out on a limb, this time to show readers the cruelty of bullying and the devastating effects it can have.

The description fails to mention a boy being forced by a group of boys to perform fellatio on another boy. According to the Heart Based Language site, this is what critical thinking and close reading is all about. Then again, they have the book from the White House’s professional bully, Dan Savage, on their list too. It only gets better!

Fair warning, some graphic content: Continue reading

An NC Chamber Holds Common Core Propaganda Event – PT4 AUDIO

In the final installment of this series on the Common Core propaganda forum held by the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, we have audio from the meeting courtesy of Kim Fink of the Coastal Carolina Taxpayers Association. If you’re just tuning in, here is part one, two and three.
Mrs. Fink has been very engaged in the Common Core debate in North Carolina and the CCTA has been an invaluable resource on the issue. She and her husband were in attendance and have sent this audio to me. This audio supports all the previous installments in this series. I thank her for attending and for making this audio available to all who were unable to attend.

The audio is a little bit below the speaker list. I’ve got some notes underneath it, please give them a look as some of them should raise red flags. Read up on the real facts before listening. Speakers list per the GRCC site is below. Muriel Summers was a no-show. Continue reading

McCrory’s Dem Education Aide Has Duncan, Obama Ties

Previously, we discovered that the top Education aide to Governor McCrory is a hardcore pro-Common Core who seems to have attempted to hide his party affiliation as being Democrat. Read: McCrory’s Democrat Common Core Advisors

That aide is named Eric Guckian and he was brought on to McCrory’s staff in May of 2013. Previously, he was Executive Director for New Leaders Inc and Teach For America-North Carolina. Guckian was also Director of Strategic Partnerships for the North Carolina New Schools Project, a consultant to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and leading a strategic planning effort for KIPP. All of the groups in Guckian’s past are very pro-Common Core and have been well-financed to push it.

So how did a Common Core pushing Democrat like Guckian come to be education advisor to McCrory? Continue reading
