Common Core Shutuppery Theme: Politicizing
Over the last few weeks since the North Carolina Common Core legislative study committee (LRC) released their findings, which included a bill to replace the Common Core, we’ve heard sound bite after sound bite from supporters that all contain a theme: Politicizing.
I took one egregious and hypocritical offender to task but wanted to revisit it after I found more video of her comments. I’m talking about Rep. Cotham. At the final meeting of the LRC, Rep. Tricia Cotham (who is a member of Common Core LRC) decided to grandstand and fluff her political feathers while simultaneously degrading the parents and citizens who spoke out against Common Core to the LRC. Another Reason Kay Is Wrong For NC: Common Core
If you’ve been on Twitter, you’ve likely seen Kay Hagan’s timeline in the past few days promoting teachers. That’s great in and of itself, teachers should be promoted. However, Hagan’s choice of guest for the State of the Union address was a teacher who just loves the hotly debated and increasingly loathed Common Core. That teacher was 2013-2014 Teacher of The Year, Karyn Dickerson.

That assessment is not without merit, especially in this case given Ms. Dickerson made comments at a far Left Moral Monday rally. It’s folks like this who are questioning why we are dropping an experimental set of standards. I think NC should be more worried about replacing these folks. That includes Kay Hagan. Continue reading

CCSSO Pres. Elect’s Statement on NC Move To Drop Common Core
NC State Superintendent and CCSSO President Elect JuneAtkinson was not on hand at the last meeting of the NC General Assembly’s Common Core study committee. It was odd that she would not be present at the event where the findings of the committee on her Common Core Standards were being read. Perhaps she didn’t want to tell the throng of reporters there this was all just a lot of bearing false witness.
Oh well, a press release is just as good, right? Emphasis is mine below. Continue reading
North Carolina Dumps Common Core

Stokes County Board of Ed Rejects Common Core
The wagon to get out of Common Core town has started rolling. Stokes County is on board.
Stokes County Board of Education has issued a resolution rejecting the Common Core. In the resolution, they cite “substantial disagreement” amongst educators as to effectiveness, lack of vetting, lack of field testing, lack of training, lack of resources, non-sequential implementation, lack of data security and safeguard and other items.
