Former CMS Teacher Has License Revoked Due to Conviction

A former Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools teacher has had their license revoked by the NC State Board of Education after being convicted for charges involving indecent liberties with a student.

Former Charlotte-Mecklenburg district middle school teacher Charles Ray Naas, Jr., age 27, was arrested in July of 2017 and originally charged with one felony count of indecent liberties with a student and one felony count of engaging in sex with a student.

The charges stem from a ‘tutoring’ session at Naas’ home. A month later, Naas was charged with six additional counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.

Naas was convicted and sentenced on August 27, 2018, but according to law enforcement records, the charges against him were consolidated into one felony charge of indecent liberties with a student.

It appears Mr. Naas was not incarcerated, but instead was given a sentence of probation/parole.  Despite this being a felony sex crime with a student, Naas does not appear in the Sex Offender Registry.
