NCAA’s #HB2 Political Stunt Financed By Taxpayers

The NCAA has recently decided to pull 7 championship games out of North Carolina.

Why? Because it’s good politics for the Democrats.  It’s part of the drip, drip, drip of economic and political blackmail by activists companies.

Another reason the NCAA and now the ACC are pulling this six months after House Bill 2 (HB2) was passed is that news of North Carolina’s amazing economic victories was starting to gain traction.

Read more about this political blackmail and how our top officials punched back twice as hard in my latest article at Breitbart, GOP Leaders in North Carolina Challenge Alliance of Transgender, Gay, Business, Media Groups.

What a lot of folks likely don’t realize is the NCAA is a giant monopoly and one that is subsidized by the taxpayers in every state.

USA Today Sports has a list of the 2014-15 finances for the NCAA broken out by school, revenue, amount of subsidy they receive and what percentage that subsidy represents.

I made a summary of this data and broke it out by ACC, North Carolina schools and then gave the full total of all schools. The numbers are positively stunning.

2014-15-ncaa-subsidy-totals

* Note: The percentage subsidy above is the overall total of the % Subsidy. If one recalculates each section’s subsidy based on the revenues combined, the ACC % Subsidy is 18.61%, NC Schools is 9.48% and All schools is 2.73%.

Yes, that’s over $1 billion for the ACC alone in total revenue with a total subsidy of nearly $188 million. There are two North Carolina schools in that ACC list which threw over $15 million in subsidies at the NCAA.

Why are we subsidizing a multi-billion dollar operation? Seriously, I’m asking.

Now the NCAA are denying athletes the opportunity to play here, citizens the chance to watch games and cutting into the livelihood of businesses in the area.  Why? For the advantage and fundraising of a political party.

So no, the NCAA’s move is not about ‘inclusion’ or fighting ‘discrimination’.  It’s about scoring political points and about the dismantling of the realities of biology, as well as traditions and beliefs.

Take a gander at Rep. Skip Stam’s write-up exposing the ‘breathtaking hypocrisy‘ of the NCAA.  Be sure to read all the way through and pay attention to the details in Fact #4 in the list. The NCAA’s own transgender policies are in violation of Title IX.

Near the very end, Stam nails it:

“If the letter of advice from the Department of Justice and Department of Education is converted into a law by the Federal Courts then the days are numbered for collegiate, high school and professional women’s sports. Title IX was conceived as a boon to women in sports but will now be used as a weapon against them.”

[…]

“If the NCAA wants to solidify its commitment to “fairness and inclusion” and restrict its activities to states that meet its litmus test for an “inclusive atmosphere,” it should expand its deliberations to include the 24 states suing the Obama Administration and the overlapping 28 states with policies similar to North Carolina’s, while also turning the spotlight on its own policies regarding women in athletics. Soon it will no longer be the National Collegiate Athletic Association.”

For those thinking this debacle has only upset Republicans or Conservatives, think again.

George Fisher is a Democrat. He’s become a good friend of mine over the last year or so and we’ve had some truly excellent debates.  He has his own blog, which I recommend folks check out.

This morning, I spotted some commentary from George on the NCAA being purely a political situation.  With his permission, I am sharing it here.

The North Carolina Democratic Party is scared to do anything against HRC or Equality. The NCDP is control by the “gay agenda” and the Democrats can’t and won’t put a stop to it because they have nothing else going for them for the past 8 years.

Democratic politicians are using this as a cash cow hoping to win back enough of the legislature to get back in power. So, they are allowing EqualityNC, HRC and other progressive one-sided groups to lobby corporations and organizations against HB2 – hoping that the average voter will get mad enough to send Pat McCrory home and win enough seats in the NCGA to stop a veto override. Meanwhile, hoping that Linda Coleman can ride in on the coattails of the political emotion.

Why?
Because 40% of the NCDP is controlled (by committee appointments or otherwise) by YDs and/or gay individuals who are one issue operatives. They are NOT social justice warriors – they are political operatives with an agenda controlled by power and greed.

EqualityNC and HRC (which doesn’t even have a chapter in NC) are fundraising off of this issue. Follow the money. Any politician, and I MEAN ANY POLITICIAN who tells you HB2 was about bathrooms is lying to your face.

Pat McCrory was right when he said the NC Chamber signed off on HB2. Why? Do you really think the NC Chamber cares where anyone uses the restrooms? No. They could care less. The Chamber went to Pat McCrory and gave him cover as a payback for the rest of the HB2, this was before the final draft of the bill that was passed around BEFORE the special session was even called. Dems are using this as any political party would but the reality is don’t blame Pat McCrory and Dan Forest for something they didn’t create.

Boom. There you have it. Thank you, George. You nailed it.

For those wishing to give the NCAA, ACC or some of the reckless NC media a piece of their mind, SisterToldjah has a contact list for you.

NC Slaughterhouse Has “Do It Yourself” Halal Option [Videos]

A slaughterhouse in Clayton, North Carolina has a Halal “do it yourself” option.

Halal meat preparation is that which aligns with Islamic law.

halal-goatThe practice includes slitting the animal’s jugular with a blade while also slicing through the trachea and carotid artery.

This is done usually while reciting an Islamic prayer called the “Bismillah”.

In many cases, the animal in question is stunned before being sliced.

Fair warning, the videos in the tweets below are graphic.

The name of this establishment is A1 Custom Meats.

While horrifying to watch, it’s legal.

Earlier this year, another Halal slaughterhouse in North Carolina was cited by the USDA for the following business practice issues:

Norwood, NC-based Halal Meat Slaughter House and its owner, Zafer R. Kafozi, entered into a consent decision and order with FSIS, calling for business code, ethics training and other measures. The agreement limits Kafozi’s employment capacity and ownership interest. He previously had a felony conviction for conspiracy to commit interstate transportation of stolen goods unrelated to food.

Such facilities seem to becoming more prevalent with the influx of immigrants and refugees over the last decade. Now, one county in the state reports being “overrun”.

Via LifeZette:

Since 1990, North Carolina has seen anywhere from a 200 to 400% increase in refugee placement.

In 1990, adult immigrants were hardly a factor in North Carolina’s Randolph County, making up a little more than 1 percent of all residents 18 and older.

By 2014, the adult immigration population had ballooned 948 percent. The 8,950 foreign-born adults that year were 6.1 percent of the entire county population. That is a 683 percent increase in the immigrant share of the county’s adult population.

Among the U.S. counties with a total population of at least 100,000 in 1990, only one — North Carolina’s Robeson County — had a faster rise in the share of adults born in another country. Arnold Lanier, a county commissioner in Randolph, said the huge influx of foreign residents has strained social services and limited budgets.

“We’re not prepared for them,” he told LifeZette. “We’re being overrun by it.”

One might be surprised to find out that chains like McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Pizza Hut and Subway have all gone Halal at one point in the last few years.  Some, however like various McDonalds franchise locations, have not remained Halal after lawsuits with hefty price tags were files.

Note: This article has been updated to correct the location originally cited as Cary to Clayton. Our apologies for that error.

Teach Your Children Well About 9/11

The Lady Mourns

The Lady Mourns

Today marks the 15th anniversary of the worst Islamic terror attack in our nation’s history.

Most of the people reading this article can remember quite vividly where they were when the attacks came.  I know I can — like it was yesterday.

However, our children likely do not.

Those of us with children born on or after September 11th, 2001 are faced with the task of making sure we teach our children well about the 9/11 attacks.

Most schools only do a brief lesson, if that, on 9/11. In fact, only 21 states have 9/11 lessons embedded in their curriculum. Parents cannot and should not rely on schools to instruct their children about this event. This is not just their job. It’s yours.

As I learned first hand through my own kids, elementary coverage of 9/11 is very sanitized. For some parents, that’s a good thing — we should be discussing a topic like this with our young children ourselves.

For others not inclined to talk about it with their children, this leaves a void that can be filled by educators who may or may not discuss the attacks factually or in a balanced manner.

The University of North Carolina offers a, “Literature of 9/11” course. The College Fix found that this course’s materials portrayed the terrorists as sympathetic and justifying their actions, whereas American political leaders were portrayed as,  “greedy, war hungry and corrupt”.

North Carolina’s Department of Public Instruction does include 9/11 in its World History course, but only briefly associated with, “how international crisis has impacted international politics”.  This brief reference to 9/11 is unsurprising and lines up with what I wrote recently about an interview with two researchers following 9/11 coursework in our schools.

While the study of such coursework found 9/11 referred to widely in high school curriculum,  it also points to the controversial C3 Social Studies Framework and Common Core as the reason behind the lack specificity in high school coursework on 9/11.

In a 2011 study of state high school social studies standards, we found content related to terrorism and 9/11 to be included widely. However, since that time, we have seen that 9/11-related standards are being left out from updated state standards, but I think that is largely because some states are shifting to common core standards and the C3 social studies framework (a national curriculum), which is less about specific facts or topics the students should learn and more about how they are learning it.
[Read:  Professor: 9/11 Lessons left out due to Common Core]

Again, we need to teach our children well about 9/11.

The 9/11 Memorial website might seem like good place to start. It’s not.

They offer course suggestions for grades K-12. However, these ‘lessons’ should be treated as guideline suggestions because these lessons are also sanitized, as well as being Common Core aligned.  Parents, beware – Common Core has been known to be a vehicle for isolating you from your child. On a topic such as 9/11, it is imperative you don’t allow that to happen.

For example, the 9/11 Fact Sheet For Early Childhood Students describes what happened on 9/11 without using the word ‘Islamic’, ‘Islam’ or ‘Muslim’ a single time.

Instead, the fact sheet says these Islamic terrorists are just “men”:

“9/11” is shorthand for a date, September 11, 2001. On that date, a group of nineteen men crashed two airplanes into the Twin Towers and one into the Pentagon outside of Washington DC. The men tried to crash a fourth plane into another building, but the passengers fought back and the plane crashed into an empty field in Pennsylvania.

The men were born in other countries and were part of a group called “al-Qaeda”. Al-Qaeda is a terrorist group and the men were terrorists – they hurt others and caused damage to help get what they want.

The younger grades like k-5 have lessons that are very emotion intensive, with a focus on how the community came together to rebuild. While that’s an important facet,  the fact sheet glosses over the reality of who did it and why:

The men who hijacked the planes wanted to kill many people and hurt the United States. Afterwards, they thought that the United States would become weaker and would lose some of its freedoms. They thought they would continue making attacks and eventually become more powerful than the United States. Even though the hijackers did hurt the United States, they were wrong about what happened after the attacks. Many people, from New York, the United States and around the world, came to help at the World Trade Center and to support the United States

In the K-2 lessons, the emphasis on our first responders like firefighters isn’t what one would expect such as vignettes in their bravery, how many of them died trying to save others and so on.  Instead, it’s a politically correct lesson on workplace gender bias.

It gets worse in the 3-5 grade range where the 9/11 Memorial site’s lessons include material from the Southern Poverty Law Center’s  “Teaching Tolerance” The lesson is called Accepting and Embracing Differences.  The overwhelming message in this Teaching Tolerance ‘lesson’ is that we should be tolerant of those who try to murder us.

Teaching Tolerance’s lessons are all Common Core aligned and, by their own admission, their purpose is to create social justice warriors starting in Kindergarten.

Parents should run, not walk, away from any materials from this group. Parents should be vigilant for these materials appearing in the child’s classroom as Teaching Tolerance has made all of their resources “free” to teachers.

Read in detail about Teaching Tolerance: Social Issues Activism Is Now “Common Core Aligned”.

Once again, I will state that we need to teach our children well about 9/11. We should not be teaching them white-washed accounts from a website, nor from a set of Common Core aligned, politically correct lessons.

Our own experiences are where we should be starting from. Begin with where you were when you heard the news. Give them your true reactions, whatever they may be.

Also offer your child or children a broader view by pulling up the original news cast videos. I’ve created an archive of 9/11 related videos, which I’ve explored with my oldest child already.

I’ve shared my own story of where I was on that day with them as well.  My oldest, now 9 going on 10, has a strong grasp of what happened that day, how emotional it was and the reality of the events of that day.

When his sibling is perhaps a year older, I’ll spend time with him recounting that day, who did it, why they did it, how we reacted, how we recovered and offering him the same resources to draw from.

Your children learn the most about being human and about the world around them from one major source: You.

Home of the Bravely Hypocritical

Since 49’ers QB Colin Kaepernick choose to sit during the National Anthem there’s been a non-stop fire storm across the country regarding his actions.

Since the”sit-in” other NFL players, including Denver Broncos Brandon Marshall,  have jumped on that band wagon in solidarity with Kaepernick, his actions and his reasons for the Flag protest.

The Seattle Seahawks, in the boldest move to date, are planning their own demonstration on the 15th Anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.  I am not going to talk about the complete and total disrespect any player would be showing our country on this sacred day.  If I did, my thoughts and words would be more of anger and disgust, than of rational thought.

Since Colin Kaepernick pretty much was the catalyst of this whole mess, I’m going to focus on his explanation of his “sit-in”.  When he released a statement to the NFL media as to why he abstained from showing respect to the flag and to country I couldn’t help but to notice the extreme irony and hypocrisy of his protest.

“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” Kaepernick told NFL Media in an exclusive interview after the game. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”

First lets look at his statement about showing pride in a flag.

The irony that the very symbol of the freedoms in our country including the First Amendment is the subject of protest does not escape me.  Over the years I have seen citizens of this country burn, desecrate, and disrespect the flag for a multitude of reasons.  Though there is US Code protecting our flag from such action.

The US Supreme Court has ruled it is a First Amendment right to be able to Constitutionally express one’s self in such a manner.  That ruling effectively gives one the right to destroy the very symbol representing that right and all rights afforded to the citizens of this nation.  That is extreme irony if I have ever seen it.

Second, Kaepernick flatly states the country, his country,  “oppresses black people and people of color” and goes on to say it would be selfish for him to “look the other way“.

However, he and other players are looking the other way when it comes to the freedoms, privilege, and opportunities this country has afforded all Americans regardless of color or race.  This includes the “oppressive” salaries these players receive.

At the website Spotrac.com which tracks contract agreements, salaries, bonuses, caps and transactions of our professional athletes, I have found  a little of that “oppression” to sink some hypocritical teeth into.

  • Colin Kaepernick signed a 6 year, $114,000,000 contract with the San Francisco 49ers, including a $12,328,766 signing bonus, $61,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $19,000,000. In 2016, Kaepernick will earn a base salary of $11,900,000, a roster bonus of $2,000,000 and a workout bonus of $400,000. Kaepernick has a cap hit of $15,890,753 while his dead money value is $19,697,260.
  • Brandon Marshall signed a 4 year, $32,000,000 contract with the Denver Broncos, including a $10,000,000 signing bonus, $20,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $8,000,000. In 2016, Marshall will earn a base salary of $2,553,000 and a signing bonus of $10,000,000. Marshall has a cap hit of $4,553,000 while his dead money value is $12,553,000.
  • Seattle Seahawks contracts for their active players range from  87.6 million to $450,000.

I wont even get into the thousands of African-Americans and minority men & women who are famous, high-ranking, iconic, cultural giants, and respected individuals that not only made this country what it is, but if it wasn’t for this country, may have never risen to the status that has made them great.

However, if you listen and believe the statements of Kaepernick and other athletes, you may believe that our country is a mirror image of some of the most oppressive nations on the planet.

Finally let’s address the hypocrisy of the line “There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder“.

We live in a nation where an individual is innocent until proven guilty.   Mr. Kaepernick seems to have a problem with the idea of Law Enforcement being placed on paid administrative leave after an officer involved shooting and while it is being investigated.

The majority of all our police are afforded that right through contractual agreements with the Police Departments they work for and which the Police Unions negotiate those contracts.   Teachers unions, and many other private and public sector unions have similar provisions in their contracts regarding paid administrative leave during circumstances regarding criminal and civil investigations.

Guess what other organization continues to honor contractual agreements regarding monies to individuals even when they are being investigated for criminal and civil violations?

If you said the NFL, then you got the question right.  However, if your Colin Kaepernick, or any other player in the league who forgot to mention that little tidbit, you may be a hypocrite.

USAToday has compiled a database of NFL players who have been arrested, detained, charged and indicted since January of 2000.   The numbers are staggering.

I wonder how many of those athletes immediately got their contracts voided, money flow taken away, and were left unemployed during any and all of these investigations, incidents and court proceedings.  I will leave that answer up to those in the NFL who are complaining about paid administrative leave for police officers.

So I say to the professional athletes who are choosing to stand with Kaepernick by abstaining respecting our flag and our nation, maybe you should take a hard long look at our history, our freedoms, and your own house before you choose this type of protest.

“People who live in glass houses should not throw stones, or footballs for that matter”

UPDATE:

On November 9th, 2016 the day after the election it was learned that Colin Kaepernick DID NOT take part in voting in the 2016 Presidential election.  This fact did not go unnoticed and was addressed by Stephen A. Smith during the ESPN show First Take.  Stephen’s rant is EPIC!

Why Is NC Public School Forum Tweeting A 4 Year Old, Incorrect Statistic?

The NC Public Schools Forum’s recent email newsletter had a set of education stats in it.

Here’s the opening text and the first statistic:

As children and their families embark on another exciting school year, we are thinking about teachers and the tremendous job they do. The Public School Forum loves NC teachers, and works tirelessly to support them by highlighting the issues that impact their success, and in turn, that of our state’s children. By encouraging informed discussion and policymaking, the Forum draws attention to critical issues teachers deal with every day in their classrooms.

North Carolina has a proud history of outstanding public education, and today, there are troubling trends that threaten to undermine our public schools if we don’t act quickly.  Teachers are very familiar with these facts, are you?
52 percent of NC teachers have a 2nd job, the 3rd highest rate in the country.

NC Public Schools Forum also tweeted this statistic:

Wow, that sounds bad.

Except that statistic is four years old, which they admitted when I questioned them on it:

So how is data from 2011-12 is relevant today exactly?  It’s not.

I rooted around in the schools and staffing survey until I found the table that contained these alleged statistics. What I found is that NC Public School Forum is wrong.

According to the data in Table 6, 24% had a second outside job in 2011-12, not 52%.

Not only that, but the way the survey is worded, it is not clear if that second job is occurring during the school year or not.

Why would the NC Public School forum be pushing a 4 year old and incorrect statistic?  Is this a way of reviving complaining about teacher pay?

For what it’s worth, there were 175,630 full time public school personnel in 2011-12.

NC Public Schools is asserting that over 91,000 (52%) teachers were working a second job in our state. The data says otherwise.

It’s more like just over 42,000 (24%) were and we don’t have any idea if that second job was over the Summer or during the school year or both.  Nor do we know if the data sample was the full number of 175,630 teachers.

The average teacher salary in North Carolina during 2011-12 was $46,791 . The United States average was $55,623, which meant we were were ranked 41st.

We’re not 41st anymore and tweets like the one from NC Public School Forum using 4 year old, incorrect data are unhelpful in the truth of the current situation in 2016.
