#MoralMondays: June 10 Edition

Well, this week was no “MEGA” Moral Monday, but it did indeed go on. Hundreds even showed up. That kind of deflation back to real numbers is what happens when the SEIU buses leave town and take their astroturf with them. Now protesters had to bus themselves in and that ended up not working out so great as Sister Toldjah notes:

Anyhooo…

Occupy Raleigh was there taking live video. They really want you to go look at it or something.

The desperation is really starting to take its toll. The most prominent sign on Twitter was attacking the ‘Eeeeeevil Koch Brothers’. Muahahahahaa!!!! Really people? Get some new material or stick to your original gripes. This is embarrassing:

Yawn. Oh and not to be outdone, there was foot stomping and finger wagging over the also eeeeevil Art Pope, Super-Villain at large:

Ah yes, the “villain”. #Yawn MT @Xavier_onassis: @NCCivitas Bet they represent more of us than Art Pope and Civitas do.#MoralMonday

The typical chants were employed. God they get old fast:

What do we want? Justice! When do we want it? NOW!!! #moralmondays#NCpic.twitter.com/KGr4LWDCEL

Here’s your obligatory stress relief moment after viewing that hot mess:

Oh alright, Fine. I’ll cut to the arrests. That’s what you’re likely here for anyway. The claim is it was 60 this time. Oh wait, sorry “More than 60” this time. Boy were the crowds happy to see them go! They even chanted “Thank you!”

Oh wait.. they were thanking the pawns for getting arrested.
The mugshots and records are not up yet on the Wake county site, but I’ll be sure to post them all tomorrow. Stay tuned!

#MoralMondays: Those who want to be arrested attend a ‘meeting’.

Sometimes Twitter is a useful tool. Apparently, those who want to be arrested attend a meeting to coordinate doing so. After, the NAACP and their lawyers take care of them. Meanwhile, the taxpayers take care of the overtime police and court costs.

Two part tweet. Part One:

I’m glad she told me who ‘decides’, but I already found them all. Poor dear also thought their brave Leader Reverend Barber was on the list. I didn’t find evidence of that. Maybe she meant in the earlier non-mega moral Mondays. You know, the ones that weren’t astroturfed by out of state SEIU folks.

Part Two:

Sigh. She needs trolling classes. I had been telling her no one got arrested that didn’t want to be and she refused to address it until this tweet. Thanks!

So then, is this the NAACP and their lawyers baked goods table?

A ‘waiting party’ at the jail for arrested protestors, they have a table set up with goodies #MoralMondays #ABC11 twitter.com/AlvarezABC11/s…

We’re being told the protests are all about making the legislature ‘hear them’. O.k., so it looks like Angela Bryant is listening:

Senator Angela Bryant talks about the state of NC and #moralmondays with the 2013 ENC corps twitter.com/TFA_ENC/status… — TFA Eastern NC (@TFA_ENC) June 7, 2013

Cue more media attention from MSNBC’s Melissa Harris Perry:

Today on @mhpshow we discussed Moral Mondays: the grassroots NC movement against Republican extremism on.msnbc.com/13sovHp

— Melissa Harris-Perry (@MHarrisPerry) June 9, 2013

She’s sort of the the Natasha Lennard of the Moral Mondays movement but using the Dylan Ratigan approach. These protests are not using any new tricks. We’ve seen the arrest tactics to garner media attention in civil disobedience before, most memorably during Occupy and the Wisconsin capital protests. Hey, speaking of Wisconsin, I spotted this picture on Twitter of Moral Monday inside the NCGA by @AriBerman:

They get a few more union outfits to bus in folks and it might look like Wisconsin:

Let’s hope it doesn’t look like the end result in Wisconsin:

Again, I maintain this is not about any one topic or issue the legislature is dealing with no matter what these people say. This is about the Democrats losing control of the NC General Assembly and the Left having a hissy. This is about the 2014 elections. Period. Continue reading

#MoralMondays: Costing Taxpayers 11k and counting; Bonus – Names of Arrestees

Free speech and assembly is costing the NC taxpayers a nice chunk of change. Costs currently are running at $11,000 but are likely to rise if Moral Mondays continue.

News14 Carolina:

RALEIGH—Over the two months, there have been five “Moral Monday” protests at the General Assembly, with more than 300 arrests.

Thursday, the group announced there would be a sixth protest next week.

All the protests have been nonviolent acts of civil disobedience, hoping to get state lawmakers’ attention on issues like public education, voting rights and economic justice.

But what doesn’t make the headlines is how much these protests are costing taxpayers.

“We ran [the numbers], after the first four [protests] to see what it had cost, and we incurred $11,000 in overtime,” said Chief Jeff Weaver with the General Assembly Police Department.

That figure is just the General Assembly Police Department. They also have to bring in Raleigh Police, State Capitol Police, and Department of Corrections buses to transport arrested protesters to jail.

“You’ve got the additional detention people at the Wake County Detention Center with the Wake County Sheriff’s Office. You’ve got additional people being pulled in for CCBI (Raleigh/Wake City-County Bureau of Identification) to do the photographing and fingerprinting. You’ve had the additional costs at the magistrate’s (office) bringing in additional personnel,” said Weaver.

District Attorney Colon Willoughby said the costs to Wake County taxpayers will keep adding up when all those cases make it to the court system.

“We’ve got 300 cases already,” Willoughby said. “By the time the General Assembly recesses, we may have 1,000 cases or more to deal with. All these cases are coming to the courts and will take up time of judges, prosecutors and clerks, all of which are scarce.”

Read the whole thing.

More drama on the horizon as G.K. Butterfield decides to join in. Via News and Observer:

Democratic Congressman G. K. Butterfield of Wilson will join the Moral Monday protests at the Legislative Building to voice his opposition of the GOP-led legislature.

Butterfield, a former N.C. Supreme Court Justice, said “I’ve been deeply troubled by the severe and unilateral cuts being made by the Republican-led legislature in North Carolina. The cuts to health care, education and unemployment to name a few, disproportionately target low-income people, many of whom I represent in the U.S House of Representatives.”

He noted that he will be joined by many religious leaders on Monday including several Durham pastors such as the Rev. Jimmie Hawkins of Covenant Presbyterian Church and Re. William Turner of Duke University School of Divinity, and the Rev. Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove of St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church.

Butterfield noted that he participated in the March on Washington in 1963.

“I have seen firsthand how peaceful, civil demonstrations can affect change,” he said.

Not to be outdone, the Chairman of the Black Legislative Caucus wants to meet with McCrory over Moral Mondays. Via News and Observer:

Rep. Garland Pierce, the chairman of the black legislative caucus, has asked that Gov. Pat McCrory meet with representatives of the clergy during the Moral Monday protests.

Pierce, who is a Baptist minister, said a significant number of clergy are expected to attend the protest money to express their unhappiness with certain legislative action such as the decision not to extend Medicaid benefits to and shorten the period a person can receive unemployment.

“As clergy of this state, we pray that you will lend us your ear,” Pierce write in his letter to McCrory. “Our goal is to tell you the plight of the “least of these” in this state and report to them how you can help guide us out of these harsh times. We pray that we can help you to improve the lives of the citizens of this state.

“The clergy will meet in Raleigh, Monday, June 10 at 5pm,” Pierce wrote. “In our opinion this would be a wonderful time for the highest elected official in North Carolina, a deeply religious state, to speak with its faith leaders.”

When asked on Monday whether he was willing to meet with the protesters, McCrory noted that he had met on several occasions with groups that disagreed with his positions including with members of the legislative black caucus.

Pierce is a Democrat, while McCrory is a Republican.

I suppose we can look forward to these gentlemen adding to the arrest tally? Half of the politicians in Carborro did it after all.

Speaking of arrests, I was able to locate the people that were arrested on ‘Mega Moral Monday’ on June 3rd. There are 141 of them from WakeMugs.com, all charged with 2nd Degree Trespass. The youngest I believe was 21 and the oldest in their late 70’s. The bulk seemed to be between ages 45-65. WRAL had reported 151, so ten are missing. I did not find a record of Reverend Barber being arrested. Perhaps he is missing from the list or more likely WRAL got the number wrong.

Let’s thank them for adding to the taxpayer tab: Continue reading

#MeltDownMonday – Wake County Dems Praise Protests

This past Monday saw another round of arrests at “Moral Mondays” in front of the NCGA. The Left is very upset their decades of rule have come to an end. The voters of the state overwhelmingly voted them out, flipping over 28 seats to do it. That’s a pretty powerful statement about how people felt the Democrats were running things in North Carolina. With the repeal of Obamacare gaining more traction, the Democrats are panicking they will be shut out in 2014 too. Cue the protests about social issues and ‘regressive’ agendas. Continue reading

#MeltdownMonday – June 3rd Edition Arrests

Yesterday was the 4th installment of “Moral Mondays” organized by the NAACP in front of the NC General Assembly. I’ve retitled them Meltdown Mondays, which is exactly what they are. No costumes this time, but I have high hopes for the next one. Highlights included Melissa Harris Perry showing up in order to apply her own brand of creepy shame, a couple of social justice speeches, chanting, singing and of course, more arrests. Without arrests and a big hoopla surrounding it, the media and people get bored and tune out. This is how Occupy did it, but they eventually wore out their welcome and people’s patience. ABC11 hits the nail on the head in the middle of their report:

Protesters have been seeking to call attention to the rightward shift of the state legislature, which was dominated for decades by moderate Democrats.

Yep. Elections have consequences.
“Mega Moral Monday”

The turnout was larger than last time, even with a week off, police said 1,000 and protesters said 1,600. Usually a break like that kills momentum and crowds are smaller, so what gives? What gives is the various Lefty organizations coordinating behind the scenes to pump up the numbers. Via watching the streaming online video, watching Twitter and noting the signage, the following groups were there:

NAACP
AFL-CIO
SEANC
NCAE
Occupy Raleigh
NC Student Power Union
Occupy NCSU
NARAL
Planned Parenthood
NC Justice Center
SEIU

That probably isn’t all of them either. I added SEIU to the list since they clearly where there (ABC11), emphasis added: Continue reading

Democrats Are Melting Down In NC

The NCGA has a Republican super majority for the first time in decades and they are using their advantage to get quite a bit accomplished. This has naturally thrown the Democrats in North Carolina into full meltdown mode.

I posted a brief comment on ConMom about the meltdown in progress:

LL885 comments:

The rising hysterical tone and tactics coming out of the Left in NC is something to pay attention to. For the first time in decades, Conservatives have a super-majority in the NC General Assembly with a Republican in the Governor’s mansion to boot. Dems are scared and getting particularly ugly. A main reason for that is the legislation that the NCGA is managing to get processed so quickly – guns, obamacare, schools. The unholy trinity of progressives.

People need to tune into the shenanigans by the NAACP in NC that have been going on for a while now – most notably the protests and circus like atmosphere created by Reverend Barber. His multiple arrests and cries of racism in relation to the Wake County School board changes to school assignment and busing have worn thin. The NAACP has teamed up with radical groups like Occupy NCSU, Occupy Raleigh, Debt Strike Raleigh, NC Student Power Union and the AFL-CIO in recent rallies (Check out Youtube for ‘HK on J 2013′). The rhetoric was positively socialist and the tone can be seen as very inflammatory.

Elected Democrats and Progressives in NC have also teamed up with groups like BluePrint NC to get their talking points and “eviscerate the opposition”. BluePrint NC itself is tied to all of the groups listed prior. The organized Left is mobilizing and linking arms in North Carolina. Ignore it at your peril.

UPDATE: Cue Dems freaking out in 3…2…1

NC House Votes to Bar Sex-Selective Abortions

More on that last link about HB 716 here. There hasn’t been a big reaction to it yet, mainly because Planned Parenthood is too busy trying to force those with moral objections to provide abortions: Continue reading
