#NCDEMS Want You To Look At Jessica Holmes…

But fail to mention, again, that she’s a lawyer for the NCAE. Oh and a Moral Monday participant:

CMS Middle School Distributes Sales Tax Referendum And Voting Info Flyers At Open House

A middle school in the Charlotte Mecklenburg school system distributed two flyers to parents this past week. One was an informational flyer on a sales tax referendum for the county, the other was information on voting. Several parents reached out to me and sent me copies of the flyers. See the flyers here.

These are the same flyers that were objected to by County Commissioner Bill James that this constituted political activism by the school. I covered that story and I agree with that assessment. These flyers, whether created by an outside entity or not, were distributed by official channels and in many cases on school property. That’s using tax dollars for political advocacy purposes. More Activism In NC Schools

More fliers and activism in North Carolina schools. This time it’s not an NCAE/Organize2020 protest flier that went home in the backpacks of our children. This time it is Charlotte Mecklenburg schools and a slanted flier about a proposed sales tax hike. Charlotte Observer has a write up here, which of course doesn’t ask questions about the validity of the content of the flier.

“CMS spokeswoman Kathryn Block told the Observer the document “was developed as an informational document only.”
– Charlotte Observer

Really? Who developed it and why is the informational document not providing where you drew your information from?

Char-Meck tweeted out to their over 15,000 followers this two-page flier.

Here’s more information about voting and how funds from the sales tax referendum, if approved, could be spent by CMS. http://t.co/CLIB2r0dwl

While the intent to promote the school’s best interests is clear, what is also clear is the bias.

Ruling Against Opportunity Scholarships For Low Income Kids To Be Appealed

Yesterday, Judge Hobgood ruled against Opportunity Scholarships for low-income and at risk kids. Today, we find that NC Attorney General Roy Cooper will appeal the decision.

N.C. Attorney General Roy Cooper, a Democrat who has raised concerns about parts of the Republican legislative agenda, quickly announced plans for his office to appeal, according to Noelle Talley, his spokeswoman.

“Our attorneys believe that this is a constitutional issue that must be decided by the appellate courts,” Talley said in a statement shortly after the ruling. – News and Observer

Wait…For once in recent memory, Cooper is actually doing his job? So, what gives? Either he clearly sees this Judge is correct in his ruling or Cooper thinks this is a way to extend the BlueprintNC style slamming of Republicans on Education. Probably the latter if you that a closer look at the pushback. I’ve said this multiple times before, this is about protectionism of a system and not concern for these kids.

NC Education Protest Group Less Of A Mystery

Over the last 6 months, I’ve attempted to track a protest group named Aim Higher NC. Little public information is available, as the NC Secretary of State only has a name reservation on file for them. Aim Higher has refused to name who funds and runs them. I inquired with NCAE and Organize2020, both said they were not behind the group, which may be technically true, but they are indeed supplying help and resources to Aim Higher. So is Progress NC – in fact, after looking at a recent email from Aim Higher, Progress NC appears to be very involved. Related Read:@AimHigherNC Still A Mystery

#TeacherPay: ABSS Board Hires Temp. Super for $13k / mo. With $1,500 Housing Allowance

Will we hear the NCAE, Organize2020, Aim Higher NC, Democracy NC or Progress Action NC decry this hire? (Emphasis added below)

The Alamance-Burlington Board of Education hired a retired Cumberland County Schools head to be interim superintendent for the Alamance-Burlington School System.

William “Bill” C. Harrison starts July 9. The district will pay Harrison $13,000 per month plus a $1,500 housing allowance. His contract goes until Dec. 31 or the board hires a permanent superintendent.

The board announced the hire at the end of a 40-minute closed session at a special called meeting Tuesday morning. The vote to hire Harrison was unanimous with all board members present. – The Times News 7/1/14 Continue reading
