Majority of Businesses Signing on to #HB2 Amicus Brief are from Outside NC

Much like the origin of the petitions dramatically delivered to the Governor’s office for maximum media impact, the majority of these businesses seem to be located in California.

While many of the 68 have done business in the state and continue to do so, only about a dozen seem to have a presence and/or facility residing in the state of North Carolina.

That dozen includes Biogen Inc., Cisco Systems Inc, Cummins Inc, IBM Corporation, Ikea, Marriot, Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, PayPal, RBC Capital Markets, Red Hat and United Airlines. Continue reading

NCGA Expands #SchoolChoice with Increase in Opportunity Scholarship Slots

As highlighted in a previous article, tucked inside the budget hammered out by the General Assembly are a number of program expansions, increases in various budgets and some new pilot programs.

Another item in the budget concerns the expansion of the Opportunity Scholarship Program (OSP). The media in North Carolina often calls the OSP a ‘voucher program’.

DOJ Can’t Wait For Courts, Files Injunction Against #HB2

Over the weekend, a woman found a man masturbating in the stall next to her in a popular downtown Charlotte restaurant’s bathroom. Under the Charlotte Ordinance, the man’s presence in the ladies room would have been legal. Under HB 2, his presence there is illegal.

Just a day or so later, the U.S. Department of Justice filed a 70 page injunction against HB 2. Continue reading

Benghazi Document Drop Shows $114 Million for #NC20 Candidate’s Company

One of the North Carolina General Assembly races this blog followed was the NC-20 House race between Tammy Covil and Holly Grange. Covil ran a tough campaign, calling out Grange’s company, Osprey Global Solutions, and its involvement in Benghazi.

Covil cited the Special Committee on Benghazi and the discovery of emails between Hillary Clinton and Sidney Blumenthal. Those emails showed Blumenthal going to bat for Grange’s company. Blumenthal appears to hold a financial interest in Osprey Global Solutions as well.

The Grange campaign responded by firing off a ‘cease and desist’ letter to the Covil campaign.

As it turns out, in a recent document dump by the House Committee on Benghazi further underscores Covil’s initial claims. Osprey Global Solutions and the very lucrative contracts it would be gaining are also mentioned throughout pages 44 to 50 of the document.
