Occupy Monday 6/2/14 Edition
It’s Monday again. Time to Occupy.
Today’s performance: Environmental and Health Justice
Well, they marched. This time the prop was a collection of letters they shoved into the doors of the legislature.
Well, 30 of the occupiers headed inside the legislature to protest according to the official Occupy Monday news outlet, WRAL.
The Occupy Monday News said that 13 stayed inside and when the building closed were told to leave. For some reason WRAL doesn’t say they were arrested for trespassing when they refused to leave, instead they use the language “cited” for trespassing:
“The 13 protesters who remained after a State Capitol Police officer advised the group at 5:07 p.m. that the building was closed and were asked to leave were taken into custody, cited for trespassing and released about two hours later.” – WRAL
ABC11 clarifies what WRAL won’t: Continue reading →

#DM7 Article: Far Left NC Dem Protests Return
This is a reposting of my weekly DaTechGuy column: Far Left NC Dem Protests Return
———————————————
By A.P. Dillon
When I began writing here at DaTechGuy, I opened with a series of articles that laid out the landscape of the Left in North Carolina called “A Primer on The Left In NC”. You can read parts two, three and four. One of the main characters in that series is Reverend William Barber of the NC NAACP. He began a series of protests called “Moral Monday”, which in 2013 led to nearly 900 arrests at the NC General Assembly.
The list of complaints by this ‘movement’ are what one might expect — demands for more big government, more spending, more Medicaid, opposing the very popular Voter ID law and a sustained assault on the Republican leadership in the state through a strategy calling for activists to “cripple, eviscerat, pressure and slam” them. Moral Monday desperately wants to emulate the protests in Wisconsin, but to date have yet to do much besides become the punchline to local jokes. Continue reading →

Occupy Monday Sit-In Arrestees Not Allowed Back
The 14 people arrested at the first Occupy Monday at the NC General Assembly are not going to be allowed back into the legislature building until after July 11th. The press and the NC NAACP keep calling this group the “Tillis 15”, but only 14 were arrested. Is Barber is counting himself as the 15th or is he doing Common Core math?
According to documents held by Wake County Clerk of Superior Court, the 15 fast food workers and pastors who were arrested for nonviolent civil disobedience in Thom Tillis’s office earlier this week are not allowed back at the General Assembly until July 11th, after Moral Monday is over. Defacto Leader of NC Dems Gets Fast Food Workers Arrested
The defacto leader of the NC Democrats and Occupy Monday movement led a march on McDonald’s headquarters in Illinois, which resulted in the arrest of 38 SEIU union members and various clergy.
Why am I not surprised that Rev. Barber was behind this? —> McDonald’s protesters arrested outside HQ http://t.co/A3bFUMCiAT via @USATODAY

Occupy Monday’s First Day Back – Theatrical Flop (Images)
Occupy Monday came back for it’s first rally. The ‘Forward Together’ movement that its leaders claim is so popular and is sweeping the South had a mere hundred or so people show up according to footage shot by WRAL’s Sky Five.
Not much of a turn out for their big movement… Sky 5: Protesters march in downtown Raleigh http://t.co/AGct3Q9LPt #MoneyMonday #Theatrics

Much like their NCGA Welcoming committee, this turned out to be about the same size. The official media of Occupy Monday was there in epic style — Mark Binker and Laura Leslie from WRAL, that is. There’s video with their story. They spend a full seven minutes on what could be covered in one. Binker notes the lack of attendance and thinks it will pick up after Memorial day. Yeah, whatever.
The WRAL story headline is fun, “Monday Wrap: Many came but all were quiet”.
Why quiet? Because no Moral Monday would be complete without some kind of theatrics. They duct taped their mouths to protest new NC General Assembly building rules. No, I’m not kidding. Check out News and Record for a shot of one of them doing it. All that pot and pan banging has to stay outside. This change of course prompts Moral Monday protesters to scream, ‘I’m being repressed!!! but the rules before were too vague…’ or something.
