Two New Appointees to NC State Board of Ed
The announcement of two new appointees to the NC State Board of Education sort of flew under the radar yesterday, eclipsed by the NBA/NCGA antics on HB2.
Senate Joint Resolution 902 created confirmation of two appointments to the NC State Board of Education by the Governor. The resolution names the appointees:
“The appointments of James Todd Chasteen and Amy Bannister White to membership on the State Board of Education for terms to expire March 31, 2023, are confirmed.”
The Resolution passed, 110-1.
The lone “No” vote was Rep. Chris Sgro. Continue reading

NCGA Bill Refines Language For Charter School Renewal, Closures
A bill making quite a few changes to how Charter schools operate in North Carolina will be sent to the Governor for signature.
House Bill 242 changes some language and criteria regarding the renewal of charter schools. The old language was stricken and new sections were added that clarify the process. Much of the language is the same, but appears to be reorganized. Continue reading

2016 NC Teacher Working Conditions Survey Results
The results of the 2015-16 NC teacher working conditions survey are in.
Of the 119177 teachers in the state, 101846 took the survey. This represents 85.46% of the teachers in the state. Of those taking the survey 88% were classroom teachers. Continue reading

Durham Councilwoman’s Comments On Guns Not That Shocking – #ncpol
Many outlets, including The Blaze, are running a story about remarks made on Facebook by Durham Councilwoman Jillian Johnson.
Johnson’s comments about guns are not that shocking if you have a clue who she is and what she stands for. Does no one Google anymore?
