About That “School To Prison Pipeline”…
News and Observer Ed blog has an article up quoting Wake County Board member, Jim Martin, on the alleged ‘school to prison pipeline’. The article cites the group “Education Justice Alliance” as taking exception to Martin’s comments.
There’s a punchline to Martin’s comments and the subsequent dismay by the Education Justice Alliance. He and the Wake School Board invited this ‘school to prison pipeline’ of attack in. Keep reading, you’ll see why.
#WCPSS Whiplash
If you’re a Wake county parent, you know about the snow day make-up debacle and the Wake County School Board has likely given you whiplash over it.
Wake County Schools (WCPSS) incurred 8 days of snow days in a two-week period in February.

Pete and I discussed the media closing ranks to defend the schools, the Principal of the school’s statements not matching up with the documentation, the need for greater transparency in what materials schools are using and In terms of transparency, Pete noted that I seem to be ‘a monster for parent concerns’. The most important piece discussed was the question, how appropriate is this material for 9 and 10 year-olds?

Concern Over 4th Grade Books? NC Media To The Rescue.
In the past week, books assigned to 4th graders at a Wake County school have made national headlines, but local media didn’t cover it until that happened.
Now that the story is out there and Wake County Schools are under the microscope, the coverage can arguably be characterized as ‘media to the rescue’.
Note the title at the News and Observer already sets the narrative, Some books at Cary school draw complaints from conservatives. Gosh, what assumptions will the reader make from that title, before they even read the article? One can gauge that just by reading the comments section.

More thoughts on WCPSS’s #Selfiegate
In case you missed it, Wake County Public Schools is considering banning selfies and videos taken by students during the school day.
The Daily Haymaker has a good run down. Go read it.
Daily Haymaker’s article stopped short of addressing the hypocritical and big brotherly comments made by Wake School Board member, Jim Martin.
