I’m still on blog break, however there are some items which need to be seen.

One such example is an op-ed by Lt. Governor Dan Forest on the Founding Principles and why opposition of the new AP US History framework is crucial.

Founding principles of U.S. make it exceptional

As the debate rages on about new changes to the AP US History (APUSH) framework, the concept of American Exceptionalism has risen to the top of the discussion. Much of the rhetoric surrounding American Exceptionalism is misguided at best.

Those of us who oppose the new proposed APUSH framework do so because of the absence of many of the documents related to our nation’s founding. The previous framework of APUSH was roughly 20 pages, which allowed our teachers the autonomy of what content to cover. The new framework, with over 140 pages, is much more detailed. However, such documents as the Declaration of Independence, The Federalist Papers, and the Bill of Rights, and concepts like capitalism are conspicuously missing. Likewise, we also see a conscious decision by the authors of the framework to overly emphasize the wrongdoings of the founders and western civilization in general.

This has led to the discussion of whether or not America is an exceptional nation.

While I firmly believe that true history is not biased and the facts of history must be taught – the good, the bad and the ugly – I also believe that America is an exceptional nation. America is not exceptional because we have done no wrong, or because we have no blemishes in our history. America is exceptional because of a few ordinary words in a rather extraordinary document, the Declaration of Independence.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness – That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed…”

No words like these had ever been penned in the formation of government. Words that espoused equality for all, that unalienable and non-negotiable rights are given to us by God, not government, that our government was to derive its power from the people, not the king. These were radical words with radical consequences for the world.

It is these principles, upon which our country was founded, that make America exceptional. While our nation began with the warts of slavery, these principles eventually abolished slavery.

While blacks and women did not have the right to vote for many years in America, it is these principles that forced that change.

While the era of the civil rights movement was a challenging time in America, it is these principles that allowed it to happen and has led to the most diverse nation in the world.

America is not perfect. Our founding fathers were not perfect. We are not perfect. And we are not done yet. The Great American Experiment is still underway.

But we can rest assured that we can continue to be a beacon of hope for the rest of the world if we are guided by the principles that make America an exceptional nation.

#DM7 Article: Through AFFH, The Capitol Will Have Its Way With Panem

Imagine what it would be like to not be able to choose where you want to live, raise your children or retire.  Imagine the government has decided for you.

Imagine a federal agency who can dictate where and what type of housing can be built based on race, ethnicity and ‘economic fairness’.

Imagine this agency can force municipalities to have quotas of certain housing and dictate where that housing is placed all because they took federal grant money.

Stop imagining.

Meet President Obama’s final solution to his war on suburbia which will ‘fundamentally transform America’, the HUD Rule on Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH).

This rule is basically forced economic integration. It’s making sure everyone gets their ‘fair share’ — or in this case, their fair house as determined by HUD.

This is the federal government engaged in social engineering, the consequences of which will ripple through politics, voting, taxes and education, and that’s just for starters. Consider how this will play out with amnesty and illegal immigration?

How have you never heard of this before? Our absent media strike again. This rule is so explosive, one has to entertain the media has been absent on purpose. It wouldn’t be the first time a national landscape game changer went unreported on — try finding media reports on Common Core prior to 2010.

The Sales Job Begins
(a.k.a You Will Be Made To Care, Housing Edition)

The absent media will now begin engaging in their appointed roles as sales persons for Obama’s radical policies.

The secretary of HUD, Julian Castro, said this in his statement released yesterday:

“As a former mayor, I know firsthand that strong communities are vital to the well-being and prosperity of families,” said HUD Secretary Julián Castro. “Unfortunately, too many Americans find their dreams limited by where they come from, and a ZIP code should never determine a child’s future.  This important step will give local leaders the tools they need to provide all Americans with access to safe, affordable housing in communities that are rich with opportunity.”

Got that? You don’t need to work for what you want. The American Dream will be given to you by the government… because it’s only fair.  This is a power grab; centralized control maneuver based on radical priorities which run counter to the definition of a free society.

Stanley Kurtz an article from yesterday about AFFH at National Review Online. Please go read it.

In the article, Kurtz notes that Julian Castro is being seen as a potential running mate for Hillary Clinton. Team Hillary might not be interested though, according to Hot Air.

Kurtz has written about Obama’s War on the suburbs for a number of years. In fact, three years ago he wrote the book, Spreading the Wealth: How Obama Is Robbing the Suburbs to Pay for the Cities.

Kurtz’s July 8th article also mentions a Washington Post article, which focuses mainly on race. The Washington Post article also picks up the ‘Civil Rights’ theme, quoting the Sherrilyn Ifill who is president of the NCAAP’s Legal and Education Defense fund, “Housing discrimination is the unfinished business of civil rights,”.

 

Towns will be data sets, people will just be numbers
Reading the AFFH rule document, it seems clear that towns will become data sets and people will be just numbers within them.  This looks like trying to force outcomes based on data but that data can and likely will be manipulated, skewed and cherry-picked.

That turns the attention to data sources. The census is mentioned, but for a social engineering job as vast and far-reaching as this, HUD will need more data. They’ll need access to a wide range of databases from every government agency one can think of.

HUD needs data that will get planning ahead of the curve, though. HUD will eventually want to predict what areas needs more ‘fairness’. One set of databases I can think of which will allow for that level of prediction is the Statewide Longitudinal Database System or SLDS for short.

The short version: states took the federal Race To The Top grant money and then had to build a database system that reports back to the fed.  These SLDS’s track every single school child from the moment they enter the public school system.

The data these SLDS’s contain would arguably allow HUD to predetermine cities and towns just like Common Core and it’s tests are predetermining the futures and jobs of children.

We’ve seen this movie before
If you don’t believe our cities and towns can be engineered by the government, you’re nuts.

Consider the rulings the Supreme Court has made in the last month alone. Factor in that recently the SCOTUS upheld a circuit court’s earlier ruling which said that disparate impact is applicable to the Fair Housing Act.

What does that mean? That means that borrowers who feel they were discriminated against can bring a class-action lawsuit against the lender(s) regardless of whether that lender(s) policies are found to be purposefully discriminatory.

Through AFFH, the Capitol will have its way with Panem.

It’s Time For A Blog Vacation…

It’s that time again — time for a blog vacation. I’ll be taking a break from the LadyLiberty1885 blog for about a month.

I’ll still be on Twitter and Facebook and will keep up with my regular weekly column at Da Tech Guy, but the fingers and brain need a break.

Also, Summer is here and the kids are off from school. Time to kick back and spend quality time with my little people and perhaps finish up one of my other non-political writing endeavors.

#DM7 Article: Clinton’s Benghazi Email Circus

Judicial Watch has been instrumental in following the paper trail with regards to the Benghazi scandal. According to Judicial Watch this week, “The new documents show that the Obama administration engaged domestic and foreign Islamist groups and foreign nationals to push the Internet video narrative.

Judicial Watch issued a statement this week with an update on the response to Benghazi originally given by former Secretary of State and current Presidential Candidate, Hillary Clinton:

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch today released new State Department documents showing that Hillary Clinton and the State Department’s response to the Benghazi attack was immediately determined by top Obama White House officials, particularly Ben Rhodes, then-White House deputy strategic communications adviser, and Bernadette Meehan, a spokesperson for the National Security Council.  The new documents were forced from the U.S. State Department under court order in a Judicial Watch Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of State (No. 1:14-cv-01511)).

An email from Meehan, sent at 10:15 p.m. on September 11 to Rhodes, Nuland, Sullivan, Kennedy and Clinton aide Philippe Reines, further confirms the White House approval of Hillary Clinton’s statement tying the Benghazi terrorist attack to an Internet video: “All, the Department of State just released the following statement. Per Ben [Rhodes’] email below, this should be the USG comment for the night.”

Judicial Watch has pointed to Ben Rhodes as being the White House epicenter of the Benghazi talking point that blamed a YouTube video for the attack. The emails turned over by Blumenthal show that the talking point came from him and that Clinton ran with it.

Remember, Rhodes’s brother is President of CBS news. CBS ran a story on Benghazi starring Lara Logan instead of Sharyl Attkisson who had been leading reporting on the attack. The report that aired starring Logan was which was “flawed” seemingly because the information differed from ‘official sources’ like the White House and State Department. CBS let Logan go not long after. Hard to see that turn of events as a coincidence.

Also this month, it became apparent that Hillary Clinton did not turn over all the Benghazi emails to the State Department.  This information came to light as 15 emails from Clinton’s friend and adviser, Sydney Blumenthal, were not in the batch of emails given to the State Department by Clinton. Remember — Clinton ‘wiped’ her  own private server.

Politico reports Blumenthal is all over Clinton’s emails on a wide range of topics and allegedly edited one of her speeches. Politico also has copies of the emails. The State Department is also retroactively classifying some of the emails. What a circus.

Becky Gerritson of the Wetumpka Tea Party noted that the person in charge of picking through and turning over the Benghazi emails is the same individual who was involved in and was in charge of turning over emails to Congress in the IRS Tea party targeting scandal. That woman is Catherine Duval.

As of this June, it has been determined that over 24,000 emails are still missing from Lois Lerner in the IRS Tea Party targeting scandal. Given Clinton’s server wiping and Catherine Duval being in charge, the fate of the Benghazi emails might be the same.

The Six Candidates Running For Mayor Of The Queen City

This Fall, the Queen City will possibly elect a new King…or Queen since there is one female in the race.

Right now, Dan Clodfelter holds the position of mayor in Charlotte. Clodfelter was appointed after Mayor Patrick Cannon resigned in disgrace in March of 2014 after being arrested on corruption charges. Cannon was later convicted and sentenced to 44 months in prison for wire fraud and bribery.

The conviction made Cannon a felon and stripped him of his voting rights, but that didn’t stop him from voting before heading to prison. That illegal vote added another felony to Cannon’s list and he was indicted for it.

After the Cannon debacle, the city needs a clean slate and Charlotte’s mayoral race has gotten crowded, with 4 Democrats and 2 Republicans vying for the seat. Analysts say this mayoral race could become very expensive.

Who are the Democrats?
The Democrats are Dan Clodfelter, City Council member and Mayor Pro-Tem, Michael Barnes, City Council member David Howard, and former Chair of the county commissioners, Jennifer Roberts.

Clodfelter is already off to an apparent rough start – even with his fellow Democrats. When he was appointed to the position, the idea was he wasn’t going to stay there or run to keep the office.

Clodfelter, appointed by council in April 2014 afterPatrick Cannon was arrested on corruption charges, originally pledged to only serve out the rest of Cannon’s term. Barnes and others have referred to Clodfelter’s promise not to run as a point of contention. Clodfelter has said he never ruled out a mayoral bid.Bizjournals 2-10-15

So, we’ve seen that four Democrats are running.

Who are the Republicans?
The Republicans are Scott Stone and Edwin Peacock.

Stone is the President of American Engineering, who unsuccessfully challenged Anthony Foxx in 2011. Stone served on the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of Charlotte from 2006 through 2010. During 2009 and 2010, Stone was appointed chairman of the BAC by then Mayor, Pat McCrory.

Peacock is an investment/financial planner at Northwestern Mutual and served on the City Council as a member at-large from 2007-11. He lost his 2011 bid for City Council.

In 2012, Peacock ran for NC House district Nine and was knocked out in the primary. Peacock then challenged Patrick Cannon in 2013 and lost by six points; voter turnout for the race was somewhere around only 18 percent.

Stone seems to be on track going after issues like the budget and opposing the streetcar project; Fiscal issues are clear priorities for Stone.

Peacock’s priorities, past and present, are not quite as clear. According to Bizjournals, the airport, replacing the city manager, transportation and police chiefs seem to top his list. In fact, it’s not really clear from this May Bizjournals article that Peacock is clear about being a Republican:

WBT reporter Chris Miller was the first to note that Peacock, in his campaign video, never mentions being a Republican. In Charlotte, registered Democrats outnumber Republicans by a 2-to-1 margin and unaffiliated voters have also increased at a faster rate than those in the GOP.

“He’s bringing something to my attention that I hadn’t necessarily thought about,” Peacock told me.

Peacock’s comment above continued and devolved into a Jedi-hand wave moment, referring to himself in third person:

“I think you’ve got to go back to what’s Edwin Peacock done since 2007 and that’s been to run on a municipal level to a very broad and general electorate. I think when we boil down to local issues, I’m always asking the fundamental question, where do we differ on local issues? I find there’s a separation between a lot of people’s national identities with presidential candidates and what they’re expecting from local leaders. We’ve always been general election-focused, even though we’re going to be in a primary most likely.” Bizjournals 5-20-15

Stone commented on Peacock’s apparent lack of Republican ticket enthusiasm:

“It’s interesting that he wants to be the Republican nominee, but he isn’t proud to be a Republican,” Stone told me. “I’m not shying away from being a Republican. I don’t think being a Republican or a conservative will hurt (in the general election).” As for how Peacock’s entry changes the race, Stone answered, “We wish he had been more aggressive (running against) Cannon two years ago. He’d probably be mayor.” Bizjournals 5-20-15

A look at an interview with Peacock from the 2013 race is interesting as well.  Scroll down to the 6th question. It’s a big one and starts with the sentence, “You have, over the course of your public service in Charlotte, proven yourself to be what I think many people would call a moderate Republican.”

Peacock’s first two sentences of his answer say quite a lot if you’re paying attention:

Well, my past experience has definitely shown my independence. I’ve not agreed [with some party platform ideas] since I answered my first Mecklenburg LGBT Political Action Committee (MeckPAC) questionnaire in 2007. What I noticed is what’s causing our party to atrophy and to recede is that they’ve gone from a party about prosperity and economic opportunity and limited government and fiscally responsible behavior to trying to take what they believe is high moral ground on social issues.  – goqnotes.com 10-11-13

Let’s look at just those first two sentences.

First sentence:  His first LGBT PAC questionaire in 2007? How awesome. Here come the transgender bathroom rights? Comply is the new Coexist?  The implication here is that Peacock will answer the LGBT PAC’s questions each year but not Project Vote Smart’s “Political Courage Test“?

Second sentence: Hi, ever heard of the Tea Party?  And no, the Republicans in general aren’t trying to take the moral high ground on social issues. A novice politico can tell you that the Democrats made social issues a narrative and hit Republicans over the head with it, right along with calling them racists, bigots and extremists.  Arguably, some Republicans allowed themselves to be hit over the head though. But that’s not the question here, the quest is why is Peacock using a Democrat talking point?

Don’t stop with these sentences, read the whole passage.  Then go read a Q and A that Creative Loafing did with Peacock in 2013. Pay attention to his responses –“Relationships matter…”.

Does this race really have two Republicans in it or only one with the other just in Republican clothing?  With interviews like this one and videos like this one where the words Republican and Democrat are totally omitted, voters may never really know for sure.

Welcome back to Pearson Is Everywhere!

The last installment was back in May when the Minnesota test was hacked. Much has happened in the world of Pearson since then.  This will be a round-up of sorts.

First stop: Common Core Protestors hit testing conference in Portland, Oregon due to certain ties with Pearson.

The reason the Badass Teachers selected the conference as the nexus for its first Oregon protest is simple and understandable: Giant global publishing and testing company Pearson bought the training institute from the Stiggins and his wife about three years ago, so the Rick Stiggins-headlined conference is now the “Pearson Assessment Training Institute summer conference.” – OregonLive

 

Second stop: Pearson has launched a new version of Powerschool. This is version 9.0 and has mobile/android capabilities.

Meanwhile, Pearson is selling Powerschool off to Vista Equity partners.   If this app is so great, why is Pearson selling it? By the way, North Carolina parents reading this, we use Powerschool. Well, most of us. Elementary parents still don’t have access nearly 3 years later.

Third stop: Market adviser telling investors to SELL, SELL, SELL!

In May 2014, I wrote a post about Pearson’s February 2014 earnings call, in which Pearson CEO John Fallon spoke with market analysts about Pearson’s education investments.

Here is an excerpt from that post:

One of the analysts (Whittaker) raises the question of Pearson’s dependence upon 2015 CCSS implementation for future profits. Fallon uses editorials on CCSS as evidence that CCSS will move forward (such sophisticated research, eh?) and comments that before CCSS, “local, stand-alone operating companies” were an impediment to not being able to “scale at anything.” …

Whittaker has asked once about an alternate plan of action if CCSS doesn’t work as anticipated. Fallon responded initially that all of CCSS need not work in 2015, just some of CCSS. Whittaker insists upon hearing of Fallon’s alternate plan of action; Fallon offers no substantive alternate plan. [Emphasis added.]

Now, cut to June 30, 2015, and an article in the UK Telegraph regarding financial advice from UK-based market research firm, Questor entitled, Questor Share Tips: Sell Pearson on US Education Weakness.

Sell Pearson??

Uh-oh…

“Uh Oh” indeed, but perhaps good advice when you have employees comparing your test and its scoring to McDonalds and Starbucks?
