1985 was a wonderful year.

  • The band Ah-Ha brought us one of the coolest videos of all time for the song “Take On Me’.
  • Director John Hughes gave us a movie that truly defined a generation with “The Breakfast Club”.
  • Michael Jordan of the Chicago Bulls wins Rookie of the Year and proves to the world that you can “fly like an eagle”.
  • The most awesome NBA Championship series takes place between the Lakers and Celtics (The Lakers winning of course!)

Something else occurred in 1985.

Governor McCrory Officially Requests a Recount

North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory has officially requested an official recount according to a letter sent to the state’s board of elections (SBE) on November 18th.

The McCrory recount letter cites potential voter fraud as the main concern:

“With serious concerns of potential voter fraud emerging across the state, it is becoming more apparent that a thorough recount is one way the people of North Carolina can have confidence in the results, process and system.”

The Strained Relationship Between The News & Observer and Facts (UPDATED)

With all the talk about “fake news” as of late, as well as the credibility hit the mainstream media took in the aftermath of the surprise victory of Donald Trump, you’d think news outlets would be taking concrete steps to make improvements in the accuracy of their reporting.

Restoring the trust between readers and journalists by reporting the facts would be a priority, one might conclude.

Lawsuit Against NC Board of Elections Filed Over Same-Day Registrants

Raleigh, NC –  A conservative non-profit has filed a federal lawsuit to request a restraining order against the North Carolina State Board of Elections over the inclusion of votes cast in the 2016 election by same-day registrants.

The suit, filed by the Civitas Institute, contends that counting same-day registrants ballots in the certified results before the voter registrations can be verified violates state law.

Voter Residency In Question – #CarolinaChaos

EXCLUSIVE – Durham, NC– North Carolina’s election chaos might have a new component: voter residency.  The state has been plagued with allegations of fraudulent absentee ballots and other voting irregularities. As of this article, election protests have been filed 50 counties across the state.

While investigations will likely follow those protest filings, American Lens has been conducting our own independent analysis of the state’s elections data and we were surprised to see a strange pattern evolve.
