Gov. Cooper’s Budget: $1.1 billion in New Spending

Bob Luebke at Civitas broke down Governor Roy Cooper’s budget proposal and the price tag is hefty — $1.1 billion in new spending.

$783 million of that $1.1 billion is marked for education. $271 million will go to teacher raises and $20 million in principal and assistant principal increases.

Protesters attempted to ‘wall in’ supporters of the President at the “March4Trump” event which took place in Raleigh, North Carolina on Saturday.

The ‘wall builders’ appeared to be led by a woman named Elena Ceberio, who is involved with the Indivisible Triangle Daily Action group.

Progressive “Indivisible Guide” Sparks Local Groups, Events

The “Indivisible Guide” has come to Cary, North Carolina. A town hall is being hosted tomorrow evening in Cary by a group called Indivisible Triangle Daily Call To Action.

The event targets North Carolina Senators Tillis and Burr and is being held to, “allow voters to speak directly to the Senators about issues of concern to them such as immigration, climate change, education, voting rights, and press freedom.”

Cooper Rolls out DOT Nominations and Court Appointments

Last Friday, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper rolled out three court appointments and ten nominations for the board of the Department of Transportation (DOT).

DOT Board members are appointed to four-year terms with the next meeting scheduled for March 9, 2017. The nominations for DOT Board have been submitted to the General Assembly.

Cooper Offers HB2 Proposal, Critics Fire Back

In a press conference held earlier today, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper proposed a three-step process for repealing House Bill 2 (HB2).

The Governor offered a compromise consisting of the following points as detailed in the press release on the Governor’s website:

  • A full repeal of House Bill 2
  • Tougher penalties for crimes committed in restrooms and dressing rooms
  • A requirement that local governments give the legislature 30 days’ notice before voting on non-discrimination ordinances
