Guilford County Schools Spends $357,448.60 On One Symposium
The Guilford County School district has spent $357,448.60 on an “African-American Males Symposium” this Summer. The costs were paid for by a portion of the $1.6 million in Race To The Top funds given to the district, except for the catering. The catering bill came from local funds and totaled around $8,779.90. Stipends were given to teachers to attend the two-day event in the amount of $100 per day. Those stipends represented the bulk of the cost of the event at $264,500.

WCPSS Hires Single “Office Of Equity Affairs” Staff For $125k
Wake County Public Schools has hired someone for the new “Office of Equity Affairs”.
You read that correctly, “Office of Equity Affairs”.
The office’s budget is an annual $204,846, The title of the role there is Assistant Superintendent and is being filled by Rodney Trice with a base salary being $125,000. Let’s think about the optics here:
Teachers haven’t seen their raises yet.
The Wake County School Board, along with Superintendent Merrill, want to hike taxes to pay for their own county’s teacher raises.
Let’s keep a social justice office on the books and pay someone 125k to run it while a lawsuit related to said office is ongoing in Wake County. Coincidence I’m sure.

The Other White Privilege Conference
Everyone’s been paying attention to the annual “White Privilege” conference in Madison, Wisconsin. They’re also focused on Dr. Pook – the Common Core Standards contributor who claimed his reason for working on the standards was his “White Privilege”.
Well, a weekend ago (May 16-17), Lawrence University held their own “White Privilege Symposium”. Lawrence University is also in Wisconsin. Who knew the Cheese state was so racially obsessed? Just in case you were wondering, this is indeed 2014…

Common Core Shutuppery
So, to date, Common Core opposition have been called stupid, sad, misguided, liars, racists, conspiracy theory nuts and more for opposing the fundamentally flawed and experimental standards. Opposition has been mocked by the same people promoting Common Core and parents have been arrested for speaking out at forums and school board meetings.
