About That NC Textbook Commission… (PT 2)
The North Carolina Textbook Commission was announced back in July. Catch up on who was appointed here. The commission is supposed to meet 4 times by law, however since the announcement, not much has been heard about this commission that was appointed by Governor McCrory. We have heard nothing about who has been made chair of this commission, when it will meet for the first time or really, anything else.
Well, we do know a chair has been selected via Twitter, but who is it?

NC EOC’s Show Less Than 1% Improvement
The North Carolina End of Course (EOC) or End of Grade (EOG) results have been reported. The media has done it’s best to ignore that the scoring system was changed from last year to this year, making comparison of the scores impossible.
Remember, the scores for the first year under Common Core were at horrifying 37.3% drop state-wide. Factor in the hot mess that Read To Achieve is becoming and one can see why they wanted to pad the scoring system.

Lindalyn Kakadelis of John Locke Foundation has dug into the scores and cobbled together a comparison as best as can be done, given the way the scoring was changed. Kakadelis looks at the overall 3rd through 8th grade reading and math scores. The changes in achievement levels went from a scale of four to a scale of five this year. Even with the change, the scores in reading and math only improved .8%. Hooray for high reaching Common Core?

Corbett cited the loss of control and overreach by the federal government. Good for him. Common Core represents the loss of state sovereignty over education.
WHERE IS GOVERNOR MCCRORY?

Happy Blog Anniversary To Me
Time flies. It’s been five years today, spanning 2,109 articles, since I started up Lady Liberty 1885. I’d like to thank my readers for continuing to follow this blog and give a shout out to Liberty Speaks, my co-blogger that I brought on board over a year ago. Her research skills are mighty and her contributions have been many.
I’ve seen a lot of news pass through here and have met a lot of other bloggers along the way. Hit my blog roll and see who has inspired me and who I keep tabs on. I’d also like to thank Da Tech Guy, Peter Ingemi, for bringing me on as one of his Magnificent Seven.
Here’s to five more years!

Gov. Walker: ‘If Reelected, I’ll Replace Common Core’
This weekend, Scott Walker announced that if reelected he will replace Common Core. I’m sure the Common Core peddling Michael Brickman of the Fordham Institute is unhappy to hear that. Brickman was education adviser to Walker when Common Core was adopted. Brickman also did a song and dance at the NC legislature during the Common Core committee hearings. I also had a chat with him on Pete Kaliner’s show on WWNC.
