NC Charter School Truths – #SchoolChoice

The spin out there on School Choice was out of control again this year for School Choice Week. On cue, well-funded union non-profit front groups continued to push their false talking points and in the process smear millions of parents and students.

On Twitter, the replies left on some School Choice tweets were filled with ridiculous amounts of misinformation. Reading some of them gave me a headache. It was as if these folks were re-heating leftover dog food, calling it gourmet stew and thinking somehow no one was going to tell them otherwise.  Boy, were they wrong. Continue reading →

Another great video from Lt. Governor Dan Forest!

This one is on charter schools. I’m very glad he did this one, and he rightly addresses the assault on charter schools as coming from those defending the status quo.

I’ve said this same thing many times. There is some valid criticism of charter schools, however the majority of the push back comes in the form of protectionist rhetoric.

Such rhetoric’s ultimate landing point is that of impugning parents who are unsatisfied with their public school and want to choose for the best educational fit for their child.

Civitas launches Educations Savings Account Initiative – #NCed #ESA

The Civitas Institute has launched a new website to raise awareness about Education Savings Accounts or ESA’s.

Civitas has held a few Townhall’s already on ESA’s in the Triangle area. I myself attended one just last week in Apex. The next one is being held in Greensboro on February 4th. Parents wishing to attend can get more information on the Greensboro event here.

With Common Core killing the love of learning and the US Dept of Ed dictating what students can pee in what facilities — where is Rep. Ellmers? NO WHERE TO BE FOUND.

#SchoolChoice Booming in North Carolina

School Choice is booming in North Carolina according to the most recent numbers.

According to a press release by the John Locke Foundation, over 280,000 students in North Carolina are now taking advantage of Charter schools, private schools and are homeschooling.

Homeschooling has seen the biggest gains with over 107,000 students; surpassing Private school enrollment for the first time in state history. The numbers are huge, with 92 of North Carolina’s 100 districts seeing triple digit growth in homeschooling.

The largest number of homeschools is in Wake County — 6,359 which includes 10,407 students.
