Iredell Schools Pushes Pro-Core Petition
This apparently came as an ‘action alert’ to parents in Iredell-Stateville School district. I’m digging further to see if this was blasted out by email or not. It’s inappropriate at best and what’s rather disgusting about it is the blanket statement that every teacher there is on board with Common Core. More of that ‘go along to get along’ strong-arming going on over in Iredell-Statesville?
This petition is on Change.org: Continue reading
The Read To Achieve Debacle
Kristin Blair at Carolina Journal has an article up this morning that points out the issues that have come along with Sen. Berger’s Read To Achieve law. There has been mass confusion on the new law, it’s roll out (which DPI was partly responsible for by the way) and complaints from educators that the reading passages contained in it are not appropriate for 3rd graders. Article: Who Does Gov. Mary Fallin Serve?
I’ve been harping on NC’s State Superintendent Dr. June Atkinson for her dual role as the President of the CCSSO (Council of Chief State School Officers), which is one of the two D.C. trade organizations who created the Common Core and of which hold the copyright on the Standards. The CCSSO was paired with the NGA (National Governors Association) and with the help of Achieve, Inc., the Common Core Standards were formed.
Truth In American Education has an op-ed up titled, Who Does Gov. Mary Fallin Serve? that takes aim at Fallin for serving both as Governor of Oklahoma and the Chair of the NGA. Oklahoma has had several bills bubble up addressing Common Core, only to have amendments neutering them crop up. It’s happened again: Continue reading

Common Core and Read To Achieve In NC
Carolina Journal has an article up today about NC’s Read to Achieve law entitled Students Must Read To Achieve. The article gives some background on testing in NC and the Read To Achieve law, which I dug into not so … Continue reading
#DM7 Article: Procrustes In America
My weekly column is up at Da Tech Guy blog. This is a reposting of Procrustes in America.
———————————-
By A.P. Dillon
Have you heard of the Greek myth of Procrustes? As the myth goes, Procrustes was a bandit and a metal smith from Attica and was also the son of Poseidon. His claim to fame was that he would attack people and force them to fit an iron bed. Procrustes would do so by either stretching their bodies out or cutting off limbs to make the person fit.
Procrustes is alive and well in the United States of America. Continue reading
