See What ‘Just standards’ Looks Like for A Second Grader
The pro-Common Core Mantra: “It’s just a set of standards.”
See what my child has been doing in Common Core math. My kid is good at math, but is being forced to learn multiple strategies regardless of what works best for him. Then he has to ‘explain’ them in writing.
These documents I’m talking about were created by Wake County Schools. This is Common Core aligned curriculum and yes, the kids have to do it the ‘Common Core way’.

I’ve been fielding a lot of emails and Facebook messages on Enterovirus. This virus appears to be causing paralysis in some of the kids who have succumb to it and a 4-year-old New Jersey boy recently died from it. Parents are rightfully concerned. Continue reading
WCPSS Enters Into “Digital Promise League”, Tied To Gates Foundation
Wake County Schools has been accepted into the “League of Innovative Schools” via a group called “Digital Promise”. Sounds awesome right? Yeah, not so much.
Think of Common Core as a stool and one of the biggest legs is the cost of Technology. I’m not saying increased technology and bandwidth in schools is bad, it’s inevitable. I’m saying the how and who doing it stinks to high heaven.
Bear this in mind as you read on.

Digital Promise, a national, independent nonprofit organization authorized by Congress to accelerate innovation in education, recently announced that the Wake County Public School System is one of 11 new members accepted into the League of Innovative Schools, a national coalition of school district superintendents committed to innovation.

See The 16 Wake County Elementary Schools Participating in Duke Program Pilot
Sixteen Wake County Elementary schools will be participating in a Duke University tied pilot program called “Nurturing For A Bright Future”. This program is related to the American Association for Gifted Children at Duke University and is part of the ‘Bright Idea 2’ program.
The sixteen elementary schools are:
Baileywick
Banks Road
Brentwood
Creech Road
Forest Pines
Forestville Road
Green
Holly Ridge
Knightdale
Rolesville
Wakefield
Walnut Creek
Weatherstone
Wendell
Wilburn
Wildwood
Through a Freedom of Information request, I was able to obtain details on the program. Part of the response I received from Wake County Schools included the following details:
