In my previous article, The NC Supreme Court Races, I outlined the main events and the candidates in each one. In this installment, I’ll be looking at the Chief Justice race. The current Chief Justice is Sarah Parker, who will be retiring this year on her 72nd birthday as per North Carolina state law. Running for this top position are Mark Martin and Ola Lewis. Whichever candidate is elected will serve for the next eight years. Here’s a closer to look, starting with ladies first. Continue reading

The NC Supreme Court Races

The North Carolina Supreme Court races this year have gotten a little interesting and with the Republicans finally having control over the legislature and Governors mansion, the Democrats likely are turning their sights on a way influence the final stop on what seems to be a steadily chugging conservative train ride: The Courts.

There has been some musical chairs and surprises in these races. First let’s look at the candidates. I’m including the Justice positions here, not the court of appeals. Continue reading

7 More Get A Free Ride

Seven more Moral Monday protesters has been acquitted. The costly and stupid parade continues along with more theatrics. Look at this stunt below, attempting to call Tillis and Berger as witnesses.

RALEIGH — An attorney representing protesters arrested at the N.C. Legislative Building in June, attempted to call the leaders of both General Assembly chambers on Wednesday as witnesses in the trial of seven people.

John McWilliam, a Raleigh attorney representing some of the demonstrators arrested June 12, said he issued subpoenas for N.C. House Speaker Thom Tillis and Senate President Phil Berger to find out more about the enforcement of the building rules his clients had been accused of violating.

It’s a McClatchy article, so of course there is no mention whatsoever that the people arrested went to the legislature building fully intending to be arrested and that they volunteered to do so. Now taxpayers are on the hook for the police, overtime and court time. That’s Money Monday for you — bilking the taxpayer to fund their BlueprintNC gripe parade. Continue reading

Al Jazeera Suddenly Interested In North Carolina

Apparently, a water balloon fight at Enloe High School in Wake County, North Carolina drew the attention of Al Jazeera. The outlet has decided it is worthy of putting into an apparent multi-part series based on this title: Why are N.C. minority students more likely to be arrested? (part one)

What really happened? Perhaps looking at video from the 2012 event will lend a clue. Continue reading

50 Moral Monday Protesters Have Charges Dropped

So, 50 get off out of the over 900 arrested. The Moral Monday folks are all clamoring that all the charges will now ‘collapse’. By Moral Monday folks, I mean mainly the NC NAACP and their brigade of lawyers. No where in any article I’ve found yet on this fleet of lawyers have I found reference to the media ask the question: Who is paying for all of this?

RALEIGH — The North Carolina chapter of the NAACP says Wake County prosecutors have dismissed criminal charges against more than 50 people Wednesday who were arrested last year while protesting at the state legislature.

NAACP President William Barber said prosecutors told defense lawyers representing people arrested at a Moral Monday protest on May 20 are being dropped.

Barber said the cases were dismissed after two protesters tried Tuesday were acquitted by District Court Judge Joy Hamilton.

“It’s exposing the Constitutional irregularities in these prosecutions against people simply exercising their First Amendment rights,” Barber said.
I about choked laughing at that statement by Barber. “Constitutional irregularities”. That’s gonna be an instant classic. Continue reading
