Nevada Pro Core Outfit Defines ‘Career and College Ready’; Deletes Tweet – TWICE
The other day on Twitter, @Nevada Ready responded to a tweet of mine. I went back to reply to @NevadaReady only to find their tweet was gone.
Wondering why @NevadaReady deleted this tweet? Maybe b/c def. they pt to is stil not defined? https://t.co/tHhajiUF6z pic.twitter.com/XeP1C6fdcv

I went to their link in their tweet, because I’ve seen tweets like this ‘disappear’ so I had emailed it to myself. In order to read @NevadaReady’s definition of “career and college ready”, I had to download a report. So I did.
Here is what it said: Continue reading

Common Core and the Struggle For Stupidity
Begin Rant:
Those engaged in fighting Common Core know how it is destroying the love of reading in our youngest learners. Common Core asks a kid to read a book, comprehend every facet of the book from title and author to extrapolating on story narratives and plots. They then have to write about it – without prompting. Remember these kids are ages 5-8 years old. Common Core attempts to take kids who are concrete thinkers to make them abstract thinkers. It’s developmentally improbable, but Common Core tries anyway with age and developmentally inappropriate standards in K-3. Continue reading

NC Should Follow Iowa’s Lead And Withdraw From SBAC
Iowa has declared it will be withdrawing from the Common Core assessment group, Smarter Balanced. North Carolina has repealed Common Core from the state statutes and should also withdraw.
So should NC, @DrJuneAtkinson @PatMcCroryNC => Iowa exits Common Core SBAC http://t.co/YhLpNEvuln #stopcommoncore #sbac #nced
— LL1885 – A.P. Dillon (@LadyLiberty1885) August 13, 2014
There is no reason whatsoever for NC to continue in this consortium:
Then we should withdraw. RT @DrJuneAtkinson: @Nancyccta We aren’t using Smarter Balanced to test in NC. Read SBE minutes of 12/13.

The cost of SBAC tests is heavy. North Carolina was spending $10 per student but using SBAC and optional assessments would jack the cost to approximately $27.31 — nearly triple the cost :
“The SBAC predicts a per pupil cost of $19.81 for summative assessments, plus $7.50 for optional benchmark assessments.”

HS Chamber Event Misinforms On Common Core
On August 1st, I wrote about an event centering on education being put on by the Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce. It was for Chamber members only and was sponsored by WHIZard Academy. It’s worth reading the Holly Springs Chamber plan.
At this event, Rep. Paul Stam and school board member Susan Evans were present as were Area Superintendent Lloyd Gardener and Assistant Superintendent of Facilities Joe Desormeaux.
The topics were Common Core and School caps. Not one person on the stage, save Rep. Stam, offered the close to the truth on Common Core but instead offered regurgitated talking points.
Video was taken and can be accessed here.
Here are some of my notes Continue reading

NC Education Protest Group Less Of A Mystery
Over the last 6 months, I’ve attempted to track a protest group named Aim Higher NC. Little public information is available, as the NC Secretary of State only has a name reservation on file for them. Aim Higher has refused to name who funds and runs them. I inquired with NCAE and Organize2020, both said they were not behind the group, which may be technically true, but they are indeed supplying help and resources to Aim Higher. So is Progress NC – in fact, after looking at a recent email from Aim Higher, Progress NC appears to be very involved. Related Read:@AimHigherNC Still A Mystery
