Sen. Tillman Calls Out N&O’s Common Core ‘Liberal Fluff’
I applaud the efforts by the NC General Assembly’s Common Core Legislative Research Committee. They are righting a wrong in stopping the experiment that is Common Core in North Carolina.
On that same note, I applaud Senator Tillman for calling out our local media’s bias on Common Core. From his latest news letter: Continue reading

Attention Bill Fletcher And Wake County School Board
Your objections to dropping the Common Core, use of the new ‘politicizing’ talking point and general inaccuracy of the standards being curriculum were noted and debunked.
Please show the citizens of Wake county were you have budgeted for the estimated $642 million in looming costs of keeping Common Core beyond the next two years, at which time the replacement by the commission would kick in?
Include in that budget, the costs for legal issues arising from the data collection and privacy.
Missouri Education Watchdog:
The National School Board Association (a private organization) has released a guide for local school boards to deal with data gathering and privacy issues the local boards have thrust upon them as part of the four assurances contained in the State Fiscal Stabilization Fund: Continue reading

Common Core Messaging Fail: Keep It Because It’s Easier Than Changing
The amount of messaging fail delivered in this New Bern Sun Journal editorial is staggering. Just look at the title, which drips with accepting mediocrity: Editorial: Common Core not perfect, but starting over isn’t the answer Continue reading

Wake Ed Board Member Fletcher Hijacks Common Core Standards
At the News and Observer, behind the pay wall of course, is this article: Wake County school board committee backs keeping Common Core standards
In a nutshell, it says Wake County School Board wants to keep Common Core because it will be another shift in curriculum.
“To change our curriculum again after three years just would be turmoil that we don’t need for our employees, our children or our state.” – Wake Board member Bill Fletcher.
Dear Mr. Fletcher, Common Core is a set of Standards not curriculum — or at least that has been THE major talking point coming out of supporters. Also, it’s clear Fletcher didn’t read the findings of the Common Core LRC or draft bill. That draft bill implies that Common Core will be here for a minimum of two more years while the commission replaces it. That means Common Core will be here for FIVE years. Must be that Common Core math he’s using. Continue reading
NC Chamber Wants Their Common Core Workers
Color me not shocked:
Of course, b/c kids = human capital to them MT @LindsayWagnerNC:NC Chamber rejects NCGA proposal to ditch CommonCore http://t.co/l4JpDPYvg3
— LL1885 – A.P. Dillon (@LadyLiberty1885) April 27, 2014
Totally predictable. I sat in the meeting where Gary Salamido, Vice President of Government Affairs for the NC Chamber, got up in front of the NCGA’s Common Core LRC and managed to skip talking about or saying the word children. Instead his terminology was ‘talent supply’, ‘skilled worker’ or generically a couple mentioning of ‘students’. His speech was all about creating a nice compliant workforce. It was about jobs standards, not the education of our children. To Salamido and the NC Chamber, this is about ‘jobs’ in the future… which even they cannot predict the future of or availability of. Even their press release rejecting the NCGA’s steps to remove Common Core is devoid of the words kids, child or children. Continue reading

Assoc. Editor of Charlotte Observer pens Common Core Politization Piece
The associate editor of the Charlotte Observer is a clueless Common Core Propaganda pawn. I’m linking the NCspin posting of an ‘article’ by Fannie Flono because I won’t give the Charlotte Observer traffic for this egregiously incorrect piece of what can only be called propaganda.
Maybe Flono should stick to writing on “news, politics, and life in The Carolinas”. Flono is an ‘opinion’ writer, but anyone in North Carolina knows that in the News and Observer and Charlotte Observer, they write opinion to read like it is fact. Rarely in the last year has there been an article in local media that has dug into the truth about Common Core instead of parroting supporter talking points. This one was no different.
So again, I called the bias out. Continue reading
