ICYMI – My latest at Heartland on Beer Regs and Sports Stadiums

In case you missed them, here are my latest articles over at the Heartland Institute.

One is on Maryland’s Comptroller pushing to radically change the state’s beer laws – for the better!

The other deals with a soccer stadium proposal wherein the city of Cincinnati is looking for taxpayer money to subsidize the project.

You can check out what else I’ve written at Heartland here.

Female. Republican. Millennial. She’s a triple threat. [Video]

Social media is a beautiful thing sometimes. Case in point, I spotted a fantastic video by Louisiana State Representative Julie Emerson.

Female. Republican. Millennial. She’s a triple threat.

“Almost 70% of millennials identify with the Democrats – and many of them think they are ‘socialists.’ Socialism isn’t outside the box, it IS the box,” wrote Emerson on her Facebook page accompanying the video.

Her messaging is strong. NC candidates, you should be taking notes.

A few things worth noting about Ms. Emerson:

Emerson is only 29 years old and is the youngest member of the Louisiana legislature.

She was 27 when she challenged the Louisiana Democrat’s poster boy, Rep. Stephen Ortego (D-Carencro), for the District 39 seat. She beat him 51% to 49%.

Back in July, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper announced the formation an education commission entitled, the Governor’s Commission on Access to Sound Basic Education.

Cooper created the commission via Executive Order number 10. The purpose, as stated in the Governor’s press release, is to help the state “meet its duties under the state constitution as underscored by the landmark rulings in Leandro v. North Carolina and Hoke County Board of Education v. North Carolina.”

Cooper Is the Corporate Subsidy Governor

While campaigning, Roy Cooper ran on an Occupy Wall Street-esque theme that corporations shouldn’t be getting tax cut and subsidies.

Now that he’s governor, he’s handing out subsidies like Halloween candy while his staff is taking pot shots at tax cuts.
