Majority of Businesses Signing on to #HB2 Amicus Brief are from Outside NC

Much like the origin of the petitions dramatically delivered to the Governor’s office for maximum media impact, the majority of these businesses seem to be located in California.

While many of the 68 have done business in the state and continue to do so, only about a dozen seem to have a presence and/or facility residing in the state of North Carolina.

That dozen includes Biogen Inc., Cisco Systems Inc, Cummins Inc, IBM Corporation, Ikea, Marriot, Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, PayPal, RBC Capital Markets, Red Hat and United Airlines. Continue reading →

DOJ Can’t Wait For Courts, Files Injunction Against #HB2

Over the weekend, a woman found a man masturbating in the stall next to her in a popular downtown Charlotte restaurant’s bathroom. Under the Charlotte Ordinance, the man’s presence in the ladies room would have been legal. Under HB 2, his presence there is illegal.

Just a day or so later, the U.S. Department of Justice filed a 70 page injunction against HB 2. Continue reading →

Bill Restoring Right to Sue In State Court Sent to Governor [Update: Gov Signs It]

Equality NC Director/ Rep. Chris Sgro was unhappy with adjournment being called and that the other 75 representatives in attendance voted to adjourn:

20 of us voted against adjournment, since we didn’t solve the biggest problem in the state by #RepealHB2#ncga#ncpol

Apparently, Rep. Sgro was unaware one of his non-profit’s biggest complaints about HB 2 was neutered.

AG Roy Cooper Kills Bipartisan #HB2 Changes

In case you missed it, WBTV is reporting that North Carolina Attorney General, Roy Cooper, made ‘personal phone calls’ to Democrats involved with the recent attempts to amend HB 2. Cooper apparently bullied them into dropping their support.

The Wages of #HB2 Appeasement

Apparently, the NBA is an official elected body in the state of North Carolina. Or at least that is how they are being treated by ‘NCGA leadership’ and Governor McCrory who have been in ‘private’ and closed door discussions with the NBA over changes to HB2.

Now we learn a second draft with additional changes to HB2 in in play that includes a ‘ blue ribbon commission’.

Leaked Bill Changes Up Language to #HB2

A proposed bill was leaked to WBTV news today that would significantly change HB 2.

The reporter on the story is Nick Oschner. One may recall his ambush video of Speaker Tim Moore over his unitemized credit card charges. It was a bizarre story with weird twists and turns. House leadership were told to avoid him. Apparently they didn’t listen.

The WBTV article cites a ‘anonymous source’ handing over the bill and that ‘General Assembly leadership’ have apparently been meeting with the NBA with regards to this bill.
