NC Common Core Commission Mtg – 11-17-14

On Monday, the Academic Standards Review Commission met for the 3rd time.
I was only able to stay for the first half of the meeting, but tweeted during my time there.

NC DPI was brought in again, this time to explain the math. DPI brought in a team of 6 to present, however after two hours, the only presenter up there was still the first one – Dr. Jennifer Curtis.

CCSSO President/NC Superintendent Elect To Become Longest Serving Educrat

NC’s Superintendent who is also the confirmed new CCSSO President is about to become the longest termed Superintendent in the country. Atkinson was CCSSO President-elect up until the 14th of November.

That’s a lot of political dodging and weaving to stay in the top Educrat spot in NC, but for how much longer? Speculations are Atkinson won’t run in 2016. I think it would be a fair assessment that Dr. Atkinson is in education the equivalent of a career politician. Given her significant role in bringing Common Core to North Carolina and the subsequent firestorm, perhaps she’ll be heading to a cushy Gates-tied job like former Governor Perdue. Continue reading →

Stokes County: Biggest Teacher Turnover Reason Was Local Supplement

Teacher pay is not just set by the state. Each county controls the supplemental pay rate teachers receive on top of that state rate.

The fights over teacher pay this past year has been to harp on the state rate. No one in the media really even mentioned the supplemental pay. That supplemental pay didn’t fit into the ‘assault on education’ narrative.

Dear Republicans: Do your job. KILL COMMON CORE.

Dear Republicans recently elected and those who were re-elected,

Do your job. Kill Common Core.

You effectively own this fundamentally flawed experimental and deceitful mess, now you need to clean it up.

Wake. UP.

Republican Governors, who are part of the National Governors Association and are part owners of the copyrighted Common Core, I’m talking to YOU. Common Core lost at the ballot box last week. To borrow from Engvall, ‘THERE’S YOUR SIGN!’

To our representatives and senators in Congress – stop all the hemming and hawing.
