WI Legislators Using Pro-Core Excuses
So, this past week, Scott Walker called for the Wisconsin legislature to repeal Common Core. It was a straightforward request. The answers he’s getting back are less straightforward. In fact, we’re seeing pro-Core talking point parroting going on. See if these excuses sound familiar: Continue reading

#DM7 Article: The NGA and Common Core
This is a repost of my weekly column at DaTechGuy Blog: The NGA and Common Core
———————————–
By A.P. Dillon
The National Governors Association (NGA) met recently in Tennessee. They had a lot on their agenda. Noticeably missing: Common Core.
That doesn’t mean that it wasn’t talked about, in fact, it would seem the press actually asked about it. Governors Fallin, Christie and Walker all had comments on it. I’ve captured those below: Continue reading

Fl Superintendent Goes On Common Core Rebrand Tour
Florida’s State Education Superintendent has embarked on a “roadshow” to explain Florida’s educational standards. That’s a nice way of saying a rebrand tour for Common Core:

More Empty Attacks From A Wake Cty School Board Member
The Wake County School Board loves their Common Core. Just ignore Common Core is a fundamentally flawed experiment that is proving to be a bigger and bigger train wreck with each passing day. Wake County School Board members continue to make statements attacking the public, mainly parents, who oppose Common Core. It’s not Bill “clueless on Core” Fletcher this time. It’s the newbie board member, Monika Johnson-Hostler.

You remember Ms. Johnson-Hostler? The candidate with the messy personal finances backed by big PAC money and tied to Great Schools in Wake Coalition?
She apparently is just getting the “politicizing” attack strategy memo or perhaps the Board members are just taking turns so there is continued repetition of the theme. I find these kind of statements coming out of a woman sitting on the board of one of the largest school districts to be really scary. Excerpts below are from the News and Observer on 7/16/14. Scott Walker Calls For Legislature To Repeal Common Core
Wisconsin the next state to join the Common Core repeal movement?
Michael Brickman hardest hit? => Gov Walker Calls on the State Legislature to Pass Legislation to Repeal #CommonCore http://t.co/3iJvuuonqM
— LL1885 – A.P. Dillon (@LadyLiberty1885) July 18, 2014
For those of you not understanding my reference to Michael Brickman in the tweet above, let me explain. Michael Brickman was the education adviser to Governor Walker when Wisconsin went with the Common Core. Michael Brickman is a policy wonk at the Fordham Institute and has spent the last year or so going around to state legislatures telling them how crappy their standards are compared to Common Core. He’s been proven wrong on a few occasions.
Brickman brought his act to North Carolina’s Common Core Legislative Research committee at the General Assembly last year. He touted the Fordham ‘Grading Report’ as proof North Carolina’s standards were subpar. He failed to mention that the Gates Foundation funded it. You can read more about the adventures of Mr. Brickman and my radio run-in with him in these articles:

McCrory And Salamido Comments On Common Core Repeal
Yesterday, the North Carolina House passed the conference committee version of SB 812. Within hours, Governor McCrory was out making a statement about how he’ll sign it but it doesn’t change anything. The NC Chamber of Commerce’s Gary Salamido had a similar message. They both talk about this ‘backdoor’ to keep what they like and I’ve addressed this before but will revisit it after we take a look at what was said.
Here’s the relevant bits from the Daily Caller:… KEEP READING…. Continue reading
