Scott Walker Calls For Legislature To Repeal Common Core
Wisconsin the next state to join the Common Core repeal movement?
Michael Brickman hardest hit? => Gov Walker Calls on the State Legislature to Pass Legislation to Repeal #CommonCore http://t.co/3iJvuuonqM

For those of you not understanding my reference to Michael Brickman in the tweet above, let me explain. Michael Brickman was the education adviser to Governor Walker when Wisconsin went with the Common Core. Michael Brickman is a policy wonk at the Fordham Institute and has spent the last year or so going around to state legislatures telling them how crappy their standards are compared to Common Core. He’s been proven wrong on a few occasions.
Brickman brought his act to North Carolina’s Common Core Legislative Research committee at the General Assembly last year. He touted the Fordham ‘Grading Report’ as proof North Carolina’s standards were subpar. He failed to mention that the Gates Foundation funded it. You can read more about the adventures of Mr. Brickman and my radio run-in with him in these articles:

McCrory And Salamido Comments On Common Core Repeal
Yesterday, the North Carolina House passed the conference committee version of SB 812. Within hours, Governor McCrory was out making a statement about how he’ll sign it but it doesn’t change anything. The NC Chamber of Commerce’s Gary Salamido had a similar message. They both talk about this ‘backdoor’ to keep what they like and I’ve addressed this before but will revisit it after we take a look at what was said.
Here’s the relevant bits from the Daily Caller:… KEEP READING…. Continue reading
Chris Christie Issues Executive Order On PARCC Assessments
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has issued an executive order related to Common Core that will institute a study committee much like the process North Carolina just went through. The difference being that this commission seems to be focusing only on the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness of College and Careers (PARCC) assessments.
Given the outcry on Common Core nationwide, Christie’s move not to examine the standards themselves might be seen as support of the standards. We’ll see how that plays out for him.

The Hunt Institute and YouTube Common Core Ads
While poking around on YouTube, I happened across the an advertisement for the Common Core. It was sponsored by the Hunt Institute. I know, you’re shocked right?
Just a quick reminder, the Hunt Institute has received millions (nearly $11 million) from the Gates Foundation for supporting and promoting the Common Core.
The Hunt Institute is also holding hands with the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) in promoting the Core in North Carolina and have been from the very start. See the last line of the last page of this presentation made to the NC State Board of Education in 2010 by the NC Department of Public Instruction.
YouTube ads tailor themselves by pulling content relevant your IP address (and also browsing history), so it would appear this ad was in part intended to target North Carolina audiences. Still trying to reach the majority of people have never heard of ‘the greatest education reform’? A day late and a dollar short perhaps? NC’s about to repeal Common Core. Continue reading
NC’s Common Core Bill Heads To Governor McCrory
North Carolina’s Legislature has just passed SB 812 to remove and replace Common Core. The House just voted to concur with the Senate and the bill now will head to Governor McCrory. The vote was 71-34. Continue reading
NC Policy Watch’s Incorrect Core Conclusions
Lindsay Wagner over at NC Policy Watch keeps trying on Common Core and can’t seem to get it straight. The most recent article, Sen. Jerry Tillman: “The timing is right” to repeal Common Core (w/ video), has some great clips of Senator Tillman telling it like it is, but Wagner’s conclusions are off.
Conclusions in this article are off, but good video => Sen. Tillman: “The timing is right” to repeal Common Core http://t.co/vpW4EaU4lg
