Common Core Aligned: Benchmark Education Company
Those fighting Common Core know how age and developmentally inappropriate the K-3 standards are. Kids are melting down trying to do tasks that are beyond what is cognitively possible for the vast majority of them. This is especially true in the reading and writing demands placed on our youngest learners under Common Core. I know. I’ve seen it first-hand with my own child.
Proponents know this. They know the flaws of the ELA standards and the overwhelming criticism of the K-3 portion. What are the proponents doing about it? Are they altering them? Are they listening to the feedback?
NOPE.
They’re forging ahead with methods to try to force kids to accomplish what they cannot.
Enter Benchmark Education Company, which is attempting to do just that. Why? Because the thinking seems to be that if we just train more, provide more materials that somehow the brains in our kids will magically align to Common Core.

#NC50 House Race: Chaney vs Meyer
A little under a year ago, Graig Meyer was appointed to the NC General Assembly for district 50.
Appointed. Not elected.
District 50 now has the opportunity to remove Meyer before he does any more damage. Check out his opponent, Rod Chaney.
Since that appointment, he’s seemingly pushed nothing but far Left liberal ideas and towed his party’s line. His escapades include supporting the fundamentally flawed and experimental Common Core standards. Meyer claims to oppose over-testing, yet Common Core is jam-packed with that. The guy is clueless.
I watched Meyer spout debunked pro-core talking point after talking point at an NCGA Common Core legislative research committee meeting this past Spring. He ignored the pleas of the parents who came to speak out and instead, championed a set of copyrighted standards and the unaccountable D.C. trade groups who own them.
Dear Rep. Meyer – 40 of the 60 ppl who testified at LRC OPPOSED the standards. #Politicizing #hb1061 #stopcommoncore #ncga

Not surprising, since Mr. Meyer only represents like-minded people and likes to play politics with our kids. Check out this rather hateful tweet. Does Mr. Meyer realize his attempt to smear opposition includes parents, teachers and students from ALL walks of life? Apparently not:
If Tea Party #Common Core haters would read the NYTimes, they should read this. Why Do Americans Stink at Math? http://t.co/WevSC6xmgi — Graig Meyer (@GraigMeyer) July 25, 2014

Rick Perry Fires Up NC Crowd, Cites Common Core
Governor Rick Perry hit the stage last week to stump for NC Speaker of the House Thom Tillis in the NC Senate race. While here, he fired up the crowd and while doing so, mentioned Common Core:
“He will go to Washington, D.C., and do everything he can to dismantle Obamacare,” Perry said. “He will say no to things like Common Core. He will say no to things like Race to the Top.” –News and Observer, Texas Governor Rick Perry Stumps For Thom Tillis at Smithfield GOP Rally
Read more about Perry’s stop in NC at Truth In American Education.
Yep, he brought in Common Core and yep, Governor Rebrand was up on stage with him.
I don’t normally link to PolicyWatch, it’s painful. I find it even more painful to link to something Chris ‘Blueprint NC’ Fitzsimon wrote, but he makes a point at the end of this short piece

Former NC Governor Perdue’s DigiLearn Propped Up By Gates Grant
After leaving the state of NC in financial chaos after just one term, former Governor Bev Perdue founded a cushy little non-profit with the help of Common Core founding father, former NC Governor Jim Hunt.
That non-profit is called DigiLearn. It’s an incorporated entity.
DigiLearn is arguably a vehicle for Bill Gates to push his latest wave of Common Core through ‘personalized digital learning’ apps and other related support. Keep reading, you’ll see where Gates is propping up this venture.

The CCSSO, UNC, NC And India
Back in June of this year, I asked Where in the world is June Atkinson?
Turned out that Dr. Atkinson was in India courtesy of the Center for International Understanding (CIU). As it turns out, another top education official in another state is also interested in India. Coincidence? Maybe. A lot of Common Core tied entities and links are tracing back to India these days.
So, back to why am I bringing CIU back up.
Turns out there are ties between CUI and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO). Continue reading
NC Common Core Commission Should Bring In Stotsky, Milgram
Earlier this week, the NC Common Core Commission (known as the Academic Standards Review Commission or ASRC) held their second meeting. I live-blogged it as best I could.
The Commission heard from “experts” from the NC Department of Public Instruction (DPI) on the ELA standards at the urging of the Governor’s appointee, Andre Peek.
The NC public and the NC General Assembly, as warned by Senator Tillman at the first meeting, will not stand for a rebrand or a rehash. I’d also warn against blowing off the Common Core Copyright.
I respectfully submit to the Commission that they practice the transparency and thoroughness they have been preaching, lest they be seen pulling shenanigans like we saw happen in Missouri this week.
The Commission should make immediate arrangements to hear from the experts who were involved in the Common Core at the ground level and served on the Validation committee for the standards: Dr. Sandra Stotsky and Dr. James Milgram.
