Charter School Numbers for 2015-16 Show Increases Again – #nced
Last week, Dr. Terry Stoops of the John Locke Foundation noted a steady gain in charter school attendance in the Dept. of Public Instruction report.
There is a lot of great info in Stoop’s newsletter, but one part caught my eye… Continue reading

#WCPSS School Board Ticked Off School Choice Is Booming
Another day, another set of echo chamber remarks from the “equity” obsessed Wake County School Board.
At the Wake Board’s recent retreat, the board was ticked off that school choice, in the form of Charter schools, is booming in the district. Instead of asking why, their response was to sling insults at charter schools and by proxy, parents choosing charters for their children. Continue reading

Lt. Governor Forest: Charter School Myths vs Facts [VIDEO] – #NCed
Another great video from Lt. Governor Dan Forest!
This one is on charter schools. I’m very glad he did this one, and he rightly addresses the assault on charter schools as coming from those defending the status quo.
I’ve said this same thing many times. There is some valid criticism of charter schools, however the majority of the push back comes in the form of protectionist rhetoric.
Such rhetoric’s ultimate landing point is that of impugning parents who are unsatisfied with their public school and want to choose for the best educational fit for their child.

#SchoolChoice Booming in North Carolina
School Choice is booming in North Carolina according to the most recent numbers.
According to a press release by the John Locke Foundation, over 280,000 students in North Carolina are now taking advantage of Charter schools, private schools and are homeschooling.
Homeschooling has seen the biggest gains with over 107,000 students; surpassing Private school enrollment for the first time in state history. The numbers are huge, with 92 of North Carolina’s 100 districts seeing triple digit growth in homeschooling.
The largest number of homeschools is in Wake County — 6,359 which includes 10,407 students.

NC Lt. Governor Doesn’t Take Media Spin Lying Down – #nced #ncpol
Gotta love Lt. Governor Dan Forest. He’s been a straight shooter since day one and continues to be. Even in the face of clear media bias and spin, he refuses to back down.
Forest predicted at the January State Board of Education meeting that the media would use this report in a spintastic way.
Dr. Terry Stoops noted that Forest said the report would, “the fuel the media uses for the next year to criticize whatever we’re doing.”
The Lt. Governor’s predication came true.

#WCPSS Has ‘Student Growth’ — in Charters, Homeschools, Private Schools
Earlier in the week I highlighted a narrative about student growth in Wake County Schools.
In that earlier article, I said the following:
“These type of articles also serve another purpose, which is to attack school choice. Meanwhile, they are ignoring the multiple underlying causes of why parents are running for the exits of the public school system.
School safety is a big and increasing concern of parents as is the way the Wake Board and the NC Department of Public Instruction have ignored the parents complaints about Common Core.”
